Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton – Retail Value $18.99 (On Amazon for $11.16)

Book Summary from Amazon:

Mortals rule the desert nation of Miraji, but mythical beasts still roam the wild and remote areas, and rumor has it that somewhere, djinn still perform their magic.  For humans, it’s an unforgiving place, especially if you’re poor, orphaned, or female.

Amani Al’Hiza is all three.  She’s a gifted gunslinger with perfect aim, but she can’t shoot her way out of Dustwalk, the back-country town where she’s destined to wind up wed or dead.

Then she meets Jin, a rakish foreigner, in a shooting contest, and sees him as the perfect escape route. But though she’s spent years dreaming of leaving Dustwalk, she never imagined she’d gallop away on mythical horse—or that it would take a foreign fugitive to show her the heart of the desert she thought she knew.

Rebel of the Sands reveals what happens when a dream deferred explodes—in the fires of rebellion, of romantic passion, and the all-consuming inferno of a girl finally, at long last, embracing her power.

This book also came with stickers – including a signed bookplate sticker!

JewelSugar Quote Earrings – Value $18

These earrings are made with 18K plated gold, and they are lead and nickel free.

Badge Bomb Read More Big Magnet – Value $3.50

This magnet measures about 2 inches across – it’s a fun little addition to the box!

Here is a closer look at the earrings:

I think these are so fun!

Verdict: This box has a value of about $33 counting the Amazon sale price of the book. But since the book comes with extras (including a signed bookplate) I think the value would be higher for some book lovers! I love the earrings this month, and I’m intrigued by the book selection (it gets mixed reviews on Amazon, but I just read Lisa’s review, so I’m ready to give it a shot!)

Last month’s Uppercase box was one of my all time favorites, so it is a tough act to follow, but I think this is a solid month!

What do you think of this month’s Uppercase box?

  1. I love this subscription! This is the one I kept when I had to downsize. :). This month I love the book and the magnet but I don’t have my ears pierced so those are a miss for me. :/. But over all this box is excellent and I love getting all the different books every month. I also love that it forces me to read books I wouldn’t normally read. 🙂

  2. LOVE the earrings!!

  3. Those earrings are pretty darn cute!

  4. I want those earrings… I think $35.00 is just too high. 🙁

    • Hi Kerry – Thanks for your comment! The Expert box, shown above, is $29 total. Just thought I’d clarify. Thanks!

  5. Omgosh I love this month’s Uppercase Box!!!!!! That book cover is gorgeous and sounds to be right up my alley ? Ugh … one of these days I’ll be able to subscribe to Uppercase. It sucks missing out on all this awesomeness ????
