Julep - Fold Over Clutch - $20.00

I’m a sucker for Julep’s clutches.  I received one in my last mystery box and love it.  So, I just had to have this one too.  It’s a great “catch all” as far as makeup is concerned.  I wouldn’t recommend putting anything too bulky inside.  The p/leather is very soft and the lining is on the thin side.  Besides that, it’s perfect for what I need it for and was one of the 80 reasons I came up with for having to have this box!

Julep - Eyeshadow 101 in Slate Shimmer - (.04oz) - $18.00

I’ve gotten the chance to try out an array of Julep’s makeup from just ordering the mystery boxes.  I was hoping the formula was a little bit thicker since it’s a cream to powder, but that’s ok.  It’s really pigmented and has lots of shimmer just like the name says.  Oily girls, use an eyeshadow base, or you’ll be back to cream again before the night's over.

Julep - When Pencil Met Gel Eyeliner in Black Shimmer - (.042oz) - $16.00

I’m in love with these eyeliners that I use as lip liners.  Yes it’s black and shimmery, but it makes a great lip liner.  I did try this on my eyes too, but Julep gel eyeliners are super soft and do not work well with all my oily lids.  I’m using this to create ombre lips and it's great! It’s soft and blends effortlessly with lipsticks and other lipliners.  I know it’s unorthodox, but you have to try these eyeliners on your lips!

Julep - Lip Gloss in Lively - (.25oz) - $14.00

Yummy!! This gloss smells like cupcakes.  I love the subtle color too. I know it looks really intense in the bottle, but I have a swatch below, it’s very sheer.  As far as makeup, this is my favorite from this box.  Let me know if you received one in another color, down in the comments below.

Julep - Feels Like Velvet Eyeshadow Duo in Sequins & ShowTime - (.09oz) - $10.00

Normally listed for $20.00, this duo is really cute!  Julep makes theses in several complementary shades and I love how clean the packaging is. Though the cream colored shade, Sequins, is a tad too stark for my skintone, both shades are equally pigmented.  I’m tempted to snag another duo or two while they’re on sale.

Julep - Oxygen Brightening Nail Treatment in Brighter is Better - (.27oz) - $18.00

Julep makes a couple of base coats. This one is really nice.  I’ve used it twice on myself already and once for William’s mani pedi.  I love how lightweight it feels and gives my nails a nice shine.  You can’t see but when the light hits just right, you see the clear polish is actually a very sheer purple.

Julep - Corinne - Bombshell - (.27oz) - $14.00

So interesting!  I’ve never received a stardust shade before.  I had to try it out right away, so I painted one nail and continued taking photos.  It dries to a sandpaper type of finish.  I’m not sure if I can pull this off and expect to function with everyday tasks.  I love the color itself, but I’m not sure how I feel about the finish.

Julep - Rassamee - Wonder Maven - (.27oz) - $14.00

A beautiful blood orange metallic shade.  I definitely have nothing like it.  Abigail gravitate to this shade and I painted her toes with it.  I can’t wait to paint mine next time.

JPMYSTFEB - 19

Julep - Drew - Bombshell - (.27oz) - $14.00

Spring and Summer are calling my name with this bright shade.  I’m so glad Abigail wanted her fingers painted first.  Wow!  It’s very bright and I’m going to have to tone it down with some nail art or pair it under a nail wrap. It’s borderline neon.  Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s a beautiful shade.  I just don’t think I would wear it by itself.

JPMYSTFEB - 20

Julep - Lucy - It Girl - (.27oz) - $14.00

This was my favorite shade in the box, and I hate that the picture doesn’t show it’s true color.  It’s really a deep shade of dark dark purple.  I paired it with a glitter topper from Rainbow Honey and my manicure lasted four days before the first chip.  I’m not a delicate with my nails when I’m wearing nail polish so that’s pretty good for a dark shade.  Also, this shade is currently unavailable on Julep’s website.  I linked a deep purple with a similar finish.

Verdict: Deducting the “free” eyeshadow stick, the Julep Kiss N’ Tell Mystery Box had an estimated retail value of $134.00!  I couldn’t have picked out a better box myself.  My kiddos enjoy mani/pedis with me and I’m glad they do too.  William is at the age where he wants to do everything himself and he took a turn this time and painted his non-dominant hand. Abigail and I both enjoyed swatching the makeup and trying on the lip gloss.  I also want to point out that everything is full sized.  I think that’s what also really appeals to me about Julep’s boxes.  I get just a little glimpse of what the Mavens enjoy in their monthly subscription service.  If you’re curious about Julep, these mystery boxes are a perfect solution to check out a number of polishes and other full sized products.

Of course they hit all my favorite nail polish colors when I don’t buy the box, haha. I have two of the purples from the last (or one of the last? so many it’s so hard to keep track!) mystery box up for swap and would love to swap for literally any of the 2 colors in this box…

So the value was advertised to be $150 and it is $134, including a $20 value on the bag?? Hmmm.
Thank you so much for doing this review bc I had wondered if the bag would be included in the value of the mystery box.

And I’ve been wondering for a while about the swatch sticker on top of the nail polish bottle. Back in the day, they used to sell swatch stickers, now it looks like they aren’t needed. I probably have 50 Julep polishes and I’m excited to search them all tomorrow!

I was actually pretty disappointed in the clutch. I expected it to have a snap or magnet to keep the top folded over and it doesn’t have that. Have they always been like that – just big flimsy zipped bags?

I thought the tips came off so you can attach the tools, but yes, you can use it to swatch as well. I just use my fingertip to swipe the swatch. Almost a tongue twister in there somewhere… Actually glad I didn’t get the mystery box this time around. Of course had I, I still would have been satisfied, just nothing moved me.

I put a clear coat over Queen Anne, another textured one, and it got a nice shiny finish! I plan to try Corrine with the Freedom Polymer top coat. Maybe try that and see if you like the finish better Cecilia?

I’m a bit obsessed with Julep’s bright pink nail polishes – Drew is on my toes right now and one of my favorites (along with Raegan, Jenny, Ann and Lauren)

Ragan

I’m not a pink-loving person although I did have to buy Raegan because it’s the closest to my name they’ll ever get…

I might be the only person that didn’t know the caps came off like that so you could do the swatch on the top. I’m going to have to do that when I get home tonight.

Add me to the list that had no clue how to swatch the top. Wow.

Beth

I just came here to say the exact same thing. Mind blown.

I just learned this trick from an MSA viewer a few weeks ago!! I couldn’t find the comment feed it was in or I would have given her credit in the blog post. So thank you MSA viewer….wherever you are. <3 And side note: if your cap fights back, give the neck a little left/right swivel and then it will pop right off!!

Rachel

I always wondered how I was supposed to swatch the top too! Pretty sure that just changed my life 🙂

Carrie

I had exactly the same thought, so don’t worry, it’s not just you. I saw that and MIND. BLOWN.

Kristi

Same thoughts _- I could never figure out how to swatch the top. Sigh.

Marissa

It’s 7 am in San Diego and I’m just waking up reading these and I have 100+ julep polishes. I NEVER KNEW the tops come off like that!?!?

Ragan

My box was the same. I like the stardust polishes because if you get chips or edge wear, you can just put more polish on and the fix doesn’t really stand out, so you can get a few more days out of your manicure. They’re not too hard to remove, either (non-acetone remover works). Naturally, when I opened the box, I was already wearing Corinne, though…I can’t buy a single Julep mystery box without getting a duplicate.

Celicia Gantz

Ooooo! I didn’t think about that Ragan. I guess Corinne would make for an easy fix. Good point.
