Thanks to Kate and Jerilynn for letting me know that Escape Monthly just sent this email:
To all Escapers,
It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that we can no longer remain in business.
It has been fun and we have all enjoyed bringing you boxes every month, but it is no longer financially feasible for us to remain in business at this time. We enjoyed discovering different places with you, hearing how much you liked one destination or another and making some great friends along the way.
We want to thank those of you who have been with us from the beginning, it's a very sad day for us all and we wish we could continue.
Anyone who pre-paid for a subscription, we have returned an funds for the boxes that we are not able to provide to you. All subscriptions have been cancelled and there will be no more charges on your credit cards from us.
Over the next few weeks we will be offering GREAT savings on some past boxes, so please keep an eye out for those.
We want to wish you all good luck in the future and we really enjoyed bringing you boxes.

Do you know what happened with them selling past box’s? I keep going to their website, and they are still taking subscribers. Strange.

On Facebook they said they are “restructuring”. Whatever that means.

Odd went to look for the sales they were talking about. Website looks like still taking subscribers. The luxe India box looked nice was thinking about getting so now just confused. In business? Out? Can you buy past boxes?

I noticed the same thing, although the India boxes have been sent out already. By now they’d usually have the next destination listed. Many have posted on their FB page expressing disappointment that it’s shutting down. Escape Monthly hasn’t responded.

I was subscribed to the box in 2014, and the box was great. After see some of the recent reviews, I noticed that the quality has gone down. I agree with some of the other reviewers who mentioned that the box could have been great. It was such a promising idea, but the curator fell short. I wonder if they will make some of their boxes available at a discounted price. I just went to their website, and it does not mention about them closing down. Also, the option to subscribe is still available, and the it deceiving considering a letter has gone out about them going out of business.

Honestly, I’m not surprised. I am surprised that Escape Monthly managed to stay in business all this time. My last box was the Puerto Rico box and I was so angry over that box. It was mostly food and the food expired within 1 – 4 days of me receiving the box. Escape Monthly could have been a GREAT box but the curation and just wasn’t interesting and the value wasn’t worth it.

I loved this box. Sad to see it end. It was a great concept but I think it was difficult for them to provide a variety of products from a different location each month that were high enough quality for subscribers yet still be profitable.

My very first sub from a Groupon deal a year or so ago. I will miss it. Hmm now I will have to find a new 50 dollar sub.. ideas??

I tried this box before. I wanted to like it as the theme is right up our alley, but I didn’t care for the travel guide and as someone else mentioned, so many spa products. Since I have a family I really wanted more educational leaning products so it wasn’t for me. Best of luck to their future endeavors.

I’m bummed about this. It always felt like I had a friend, who was a little wacky sometimes, that traveled a lot.
I’ll be curious to see suggestions for a replacement.

I liked this box a lot at one time. I am curious though which past boxes will go on sale and for how much. There’s one or two from the past year that I might go for if they are really marked down…

This box was not worth what I paid. I canceled after box one – when you pay $50 for a surprise you expect a higher value mine was like 51$ . No thanks for that I can pick up my own stuff I choose at world market

I think it might be because they were moving towards more beauty items and away from actual travel items. In early reviews, they had much more of a focus on quality souviners, maybe some snacks. Then as time went on it became more and more spa products.
There are so many spa and beauty boxes out there and they wound up losing their niche.

Oh my goodness! This is odd timing because I just spent time earlier today reviewing the swap pages for items available from Escape Monthly and was considering a sub to them. I guess they made my mind up for me! :/
