The Girl in the Red Coat by Kate Hamer - Retail Value $25.95 (On Amazon for $15.57)

Book summary from Amazon:

Newly single mom Beth has one constant, gnawing worry: that her dreamy eight-year-old daughter, Carmel, who has a tendency to wander off, will one day go missing.

And then one day, it happens: On a Saturday morning thick with fog, Beth takes Carmel to a local outdoor festival, they get separated in the crowd, and Carmel is gone.

Shattered, Beth sets herself on the grim and lonely mission to find her daughter, keeping on relentlessly even as the authorities tell her that Carmel may be gone for good.

Carmel, meanwhile, is on a strange and harrowing journey of her own—to a totally unexpected place that requires her to live by her wits, while trying desperately to keep in her head, at all times, a vision of her mother …

Alternating between Beth’s story and Carmel’s, and written in gripping prose that won’t let go, The Girl in the Red Coat—like Emma Donoghue’s Room and M. L. Stedman’s The Light Between Oceans—is an utterly immersive story that’s impossible to put down . . . and impossible to forget.

Missionary Chocolates Handcrafted Vegan Truffles - Value $6

I've sampled these chocolates before - and they are wonderful! (And gluten-free and vegan, too!)

Nossa Familia Coffee in Ernesto's House Blend - Value $9

I'm a tea drinker, but my husband Eric loves coffee, so this goes to him! He already is excited to try it after smelling the coffee beans!

Here is a closer look at the chocolates:

Simply Espresso and Vanilla Salted Caramel. (Both excellent!)

Verdict: This box has a value of about $67 (that's with the discounted Amazon sale price of the box). I think that's a pretty good value if you sign up with the $10 off for life coupon. Cozy Reader Club is still on the high-end in terms of cost for a monthly book box, so it probably isn't for everyone, but I think they did an excellent job at delivering on their promise of what you can expect in a box, and everything felt special!

The Girl in the Red Coat isn't a book I'd buy for myself, so this will be a good way to push me out of my book comfort zone, too.

I would find it really helpful if you would include the publishing date of books in your reviews. For instance this book just came out on feb 16th. For those that are avid readers it is really helpful to know how recent books are in sub boxes because if you read a few books a week a sub that send older books may not be for you. Otherwise this actually looks like a super cool box but I tend to agree a little on the expensive side

Thanks for the suggestion!! I’ll try to remember to include that in book box reviews moving forward! 🙂

I like the box, but the price is too high. I could see the box being 40.00 or maybe 45.00. This price is too high which is too bad. I subscribe to almost all of the book subscriptions out there.

I love the idea of this sub, but it’s too high for me. $65 for one book and some other items seems like a lot to me.

Maybe its just me …. yet they are starting their box off to high. I like the items in it, the value is there, yet I cant see to many people spending this amount monthly. Quarterly yes, maybe other month. Yet monthly, probably not as many subscribers as they would hope for. So many nice boxes seem to start their boxes off high, yet realize later on they would get more subscribers by dropping the price. If this was in the $39 range i would like this box better.

Ooh, I was just looking at that book at the Amazon bookstore yesterday! I picked it up and ultimately put t back down in favor of other books but it’s on my TBR. I think this box is expensive enough that I wouldn’t be able to justify it, though.
