About The Queen of the Night:

This book -- 15-years-in-the-making -- is getting a lot of buzz, and stock has been selling out at major retailers. Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, filled with blackmail, ball gowns, and suspense, The Queen of the Night follows opera star Lillet Berne as she navigates the politics of Second Empire Paris, jealous suitors, and high fashion.

Author Alexander Chee, on being chosen as a BOTM author:

I'm thrilled, I'm thrilled, it's something - it's an honor, it's an august institution, Book of the Month Club, and I couldn't be happier about it.

What do you think of the spoiler book? All current Book of the Month subscribers will get a chance to pick this book or one of the other 4 books starting on March 1st.

This is likely the impetus I needed to sub to this box.

The image illustrating the ‘skip’ option is some seriously gorgeous and effective graphic design.

I keep wanting to subscribe to this every month, but every month I keep telling myself to wait until I’m through the stacks of books I already own and want to read. (Used bookstores are a huge weakness of mine.) Someday…

I am so happy they introduced this skip-a-month feature! Definitely makes me a very happy customer. Also, I hadn’t heard of “The Queen of the Night” but I’m an opera fan, so I’m really looking forward to reading it!

Very happy about the skip-a-month option! I had been hoping they’d add that.

I was so thrilled to wake up to that email in my inbox and I have only one thing to say: this sub is officially perfect. (Oh, I’ve been looking forward to Queen of the Night, so I’ll be hard pressed to pick anything else! This might be a 2-book month, we’ll see.)
