Actually really happy for this. I read her other book and it really charged me to declutter my house. I am about halfway through and have started to lose steam. Looking forward to this.

What an irony. I decluttered my subs last week and got rid of 6 of them. Popsugar you are next.

She practices Shinto, so yeah, there’s a certain amount of animism in her belief system and approach to life (and organizing). It kind of works for me, though. I may not share her belief that my old sweater has a literal essence or spirit, but I find that shifting my perspective to more carefully and deeply consider the things I own (or am thinking about owning) helps me better keep the amount of “stuff” I have under control.
Obviously my sub box habit makes me a very poor spokesperson for anti-consumerism, but surprises in the mail do spark joy for me . . .

Ack, this was supposed to be a response to Michelle. It looks like a totally weird non sequitur hanging out on its own here. Sorry folks.

This book will be going straight into the Salvation Army bag, I hope the rest of the box is better. What a downer, it really is a spoiler for me ☹️

They just did a story about this on NPR this morning. I find the whole thing a little gimmick-y at first glance, but I’m open to seeing if there’s more to it than what I’ve heard.

I heard that on NPR the other day! I was thinking this was the same book, but I wasn’t sure 🙂 Thanks for confirming it for me! Now I’m excited about it.

Im not sure I’ll read this book but hope the rest of the box is great.

I read the first book and went through our whole house and decluttered. It was a great process to get rid of things and my space feels so much better after we have less stuff. I don’t need this book, but I will be happy to pass on to friend or swap. I find anything that will get me motivated to spend weeks and hours going through stuff is worth it.

I’m still mad at them. After trying multiple times/effort I have yet received the clock that was in the Neiman Marcus Christmas box that I paid $$$ for. How does one actually reach this company? I’ve tried email/facebook. No resolution.

In the past I’ve experienced slow customer service responses as well, so I posted to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram before someone finally responded that they’d followed up on my email.

I contacted them about an item in that box as well. They’ve said they are backordered and waiting for more product from the merchant. It is frustrating because while they say they will replace an item they are giving no timeline.
Thanks

Check your spam. I’ve contacted them several times in the past and receive almost immediate responses. Wonderful customer service. Sorry for your troubles.

I was just going on Amazon to buy this today, so glad I saw this spoiler first!!! So excited about this book. Maybe everyone will swap even more, in an effort to declutter and keep only what you need/use 😉 Thanks again to Liz for setting up the swapping section so we can declutter and not waste product!

I LOVE books, and I love reading almost any noteworthy book, whether on the bestseller list or just a new release with a fascinating premise.
However, I have a vision problem which precludes me from reading physical books. I use my Kindle and adjust the font. I have both glasses and contacts, and since this eye problem was caused by high flow oxygen given to me as a preemie, there is absolutely no surgical correction possible. It’s gotten worse as I have matured, for some reason.
I would give ANYTHING for them to offer either an e- download OR a physical book. I definitely try to read what they send but I usually end up buying it on Amazon for my Kindle so I CAN read it.
I know I’m not the only one who would like this option. Also to keep from having to lug a book around. Most e-readers are extremely compact.

I don’t know if this helps, but a lot of libraries are getting into ebook loaning also. I never had success but then I usually live too far outside of larger cities.

I’m in the sticks and my library participates in ebook loaning. They use Overdrive and, to a lesser degree, 3M. Love it, and great recommendation!!

Laura, have you heard of Bookshare? It’s a book service for people with visual and other disabilities that preclude them from reading regular books. It’s $50 a year + $25 set-up, but you can read as many books as you like and they seem to have lots (including this one).

Majorly regretting my 3-month sub purchase. I didn’t want the December box, and I’m not interested in this book. :/ I guess I’ll be getting into the swapping spirit!

As a person who lives a very organized life already (and my husband and daughter get annoyed by it), I don’t know if this book will be a waste of time or more ideas. I guess we’ll see…

I read the first book and it was ok up until she started talking to her clothes, something like……shirt you did a really good job today. I have to draw the line somewhere. (someone correct me if I’m wrong but this is what I remember).
I’m all through with PS and didn’t go for the deal because I didn’t want another December box, I didn’t want the first.
This is probably my favorite sub though, when it’s good.

And socks are more happy folded because they work hard all day and need to be tucked in bed? Or something along those lines! Even if its ridiculous, it sticks in your memory so theres something to be said for that, I guess.

I’m SO excited! This book has been EVERYWHERE in the planning world and I’ve heard such great reviews about it. This is an exceptional addition as we head into the new year.

Just an fyi to anyone who had a monthly popsugar box and then purchased the 3/6/12 month plan with the black Friday deal: I’m being charged monthly still, even though the 6 month cost was paid at purchase. Might want to keep an eye on you bank account.

I noticed this this morning, what’s the deal? Am I now going to be getting duplicate boxes? I bought a 6 month deal. Not happy. And I am sure that I cancelled my monthly subscription when I purchased the deal as instructed.

I think putting a de-clutter book in a subscription box is just plain irony!!!! I purchased the large print of this book, but have not received. I think I will return to store unopened.

Right? I let most of my subs run out because I was getting so overwhelmed with extra stuff that I did not need…but I do love this book!

Wellllll shoot. I’m a monthly subscriber and purchased a 6-month subscription back in December with a discount code. I assumed this would suspend my monthly sub, but I just noticed I was charged for another January box under my monthly subscription. Same thing happened in December, but at least I was able to gift most of my second box for Christmas. Frustrating…but I guess I’ll have a lot to swap!

This was a helpful tip, thank you! I was able to go online and cancel the monthly sub because the charge was pending. I was frustrated that they sent me two December boxes, but I was able to gift some of the items. It wasn’t a total loss, but a bit frustrating nonetheless.

Marie
You need to cancel your monthly sub so your not billed monthly.

Elisabeth
Thanks! I emailed them to make sure that if I cancelled my original sub I wouldn’t lose my remaining credits, and was waiting for a reply. I just went to the website to cancel my original and it looks like everything is still in place with my credits. We’ll see if I cancelled January in time or not. I doubt it, but oh well. Like I said, lots of swap items!
Kristi
I’m very excited about this. I saw an article in my newspaper talking about her and her book and was sold. I ended up buying organize and create discipline by Justin Klosky instead after reading a gazillion reviews. It’ll be nice to be able to have both. Now I just have to get in the habit of reading again. I still haven’t read the first book I bought. Lol Guess I need to “create discipline” to read the create discipline book.

I’m a Kindle reader so whenever I get a physical book the most important thing to me is how pretty the cover is because it will eventually be decorative on my bookshelf! I will read this book as I read the Mindy Kaling book (I LOVE reading). Maybe it’s wrong to like or dislike getting a book based on it’s aesthetics (don’t judge a book by it’s cover and all that) but the Mindy book was the perfect blue to go with my living room decor after I read it! This one should look good too. Also, I hang most of my clothes so I’m not sure how much this will alter my life. More spoilers please!

My mother immediately made me order this box for her. She LOVES Marie Kondo (I was affected by my mother’s neat-freak bug my entire life! Eh, it didn’t do me any harm in the long run :D).

Yay! I’m excited. I think that looks like a good book and decluttering is definitely one of my New Years resolutions. I might be the minority but I love when they send books. I’m excited to see what the rest of January’s box holds because last January was one of my favorite boxes ever. I still use my Keep travel mug and hat!

If anyone is not getting the box, but is interested in the book…I will be putting mine up for swap. I just completely reorganized my house…I’m all good on that front. I was hoping for some fitness or cold weather related items, but I guess since they just released the Target fitness box (that very few people could actually get)…they are going to focus on other “resolutions”. Did we get a theme spoiler?

Marie Kondo and I would not get along. Emptying your purse every night and putting your wallet away? Rolling up your underwear and standing it vertically in a drawer? Good grief. Even the phrase “sparks joy” makes me roll my eyes.
Reply
Nikki
right and someone else posted that she talks to her clothing. And getting rid of a screwdriver and needing it later? I can’t get on board with getting rid of essential things like that. Everyone needs a small tool kit in their home.
Reply
HL
Actually, she tells the screwdriver story to illustrate how at the beginning, she hadn’t learned to identify what gave her joy. She initially underestimated ordinary and seemingly mundane objects and calls that an early mistake. The comment mentioning the incident did so out of context.
Ragan
There are so many things I don’t get excited about that I need:
*dish towels
*furnace filters
*pliers
*toilet brushes
*fiber pills for my dog
*the vacuum cleaner
*the litter box scoop
*the laundry hamper
*AAA batteries
*the stapler
Etc. Etc.
It would be financially silly to get rid of the ones I have in some attempt to find different items that “spark joy.”
And I will not talk to inanimate objects…
Emily
Actually, the standing up underwear thing is kind of amazing. She also encourages organizing things by color, so i open my underwear drawer and my tank top drawer etc. every morning and see a beautiful rainbow of things I enjoy — and I can see all of them at once! Total joy sparkage!

Ragan
I don’t even fold my underwear. I throw it all in a drawer in a big pile. I would much rather have my free time for doing something more interesting and intellectually stimulating like reading a book (of which I have over 1500 physical ones, so there is another place MK and I would disagree…).
