Gentlemans Subscription Box Review January 2016 - 4

This was my first month receiving Gentleman’s Box.  The box itself is really cool looking!  Their website has other month’s box contents, and it looks like the value is recently consistently over $70.00.  If you’re curious about the contents of previous month’s boxes, I would recommend taking a peek at the slider on the bottom of their website.

One thing to note, and I’m assuming it is because I received a review box, is that I didn’t get the monthly edition of GQ that is usually included.  So that is an additional value that you won’t see in my review.

Gentleman’s Box includes a small glossy pamphlet with all of the items you receive in the box detailed, as well as a profile of a current subscriber, and a few other short articles.  It is very well put together.

Happy Socks Half Striped Socks – $12.00 on sale for $8.40

Happy Socks seem to be the thing to send out in men’s subscription boxes, which we’re not complaining about.  These are a nice color combination, one that my husband often wears, and they’re the same great, consistent quality that you can expect from Happy Socks.  They are well made, comfortable, soft, and wash well.  All great things when it comes to socks!

Winners Circle Fashion Co. Classic Sports Watch – $50.00

This is a very nice quality watch and there are three bands that came with the watch face.  I received a camouflage band instead of the plain army green band shown in the link above.  The watch strap is adjustable, and looks like it would fit the majority of men’s wrists.  It is obviously more casual than dressy, which is nice for a box like this to include.  Many times the items included in men’s subscription boxes are for more formal, business type atmospheres.  This is a great inclusion for a man that might not wear dress socks or lapel pins as often.

My Suited Life Wooden Lapel Pin – Mahogany – $25.00

These are also a hot commodity in men’s subscription boxes lately!  I love them, I think they’re a great way to add a little character to a suit, or a nice, reusable alternative to boutonnières for weddings.  This wooden pin is made extremely well, it seems like it will stand the test of time.  The classic look of it would go with many color combinations as well!

Brickell No Shine Lip Balm – $7.50

Brickell has a great, solid line of men’s grooming products.  We’ve received a couple of them in our boxes, and they are all great quality.  This lip balm is no different.  It is a no shine formula, which I had never considered before as a need in men’s grooming products, but I can absolutely see the benefit of this.  This lip balm is peppermint flavored, which again, is a nice unisex flavor for lip balm.  The lip balm is very emollient and smooth, and lasts quite a bit of time once put on.

Verdict:  The calculated value for this box is $94.50 if you take the pre-sale price of the socks, and $90.90 if you take the sale price of the socks.  That is an excellent value for a $25 box and all of the item prices can be verified, which I definitely like!  This box seems a little more balanced in terms of the usefulness for men that don’t dress in business apparel every day – which is great.  There seems to be quite a few men’s boxes that focus on business/formal dress, so it’s refreshing to see a box that caters a little more to all walks of life.

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane…the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane…but she’s always looking for a new subscription to try!

  1. I love the background! Did you find that DIY from Pinterest? My sister did one in purples and black with gold spray painted over where yours is white. So pretty!

  2. One thing I’ve learned is before I sub to another mens box, to make sure the man your subbing for likes the items. I like the socks in this box, yet there is no way my husband would wear them, because of the purple and the stripes. If socks would have been 1 color grey, blue or black they would have been fine. The lip balm is great for winter. The watch I also like, yet i know he would not wear it, he would also not wear the pin. The value is great though.

  3. My husband has gothen this box for six months now and loves it. He was super happy to get the happy socks. The watch was pretty fantastic too.

FYI with his the GQ magazine is separate. It just shows up in the mailbox.
