Cairn is a subscription service that delivers outdoor gear every month. They bill their service as "Your Monthly Box of Outdoor Discovery." Fall is our big outdoors adventure season, and we are loving all the hiking, camping, and backpacking!

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Cairn Subscription Box Review November 2015 - quote

I love the quotes they print on their liner paper! This one really spoke to me in particular.

This was my fifth package from Cairn. When I signed up they asked me to do a huge questionnaire for customization purposes. It asked questions about the types of outdoor activities I like, and I chose hiking, camping (car), backpacking, and yoga. They had loads of options, though, like rock climbing, moutain biking, fishing -- just about everything I could think of! They also asked a few lifestyle questions (kids? dogs?) plus basics like t-shirt size.

All this leads me to believe that contents may vary from subscriber to subscriber, so if you subscribe but get different things, please let me know!

Cairn Subscription Box Review November 2015 - info

This is the info card that came in the package, listing out all the contents.

Cairn Subscription Box Review November 2015 - bowl

Ruffwear Quencher Collapsible Dog Bowl - Value $15

Finally something for the pups! I was wondering if Cairn was ever going to actually send something dog-related since they asked on their questionnaire. We already have one of these, but since we have two dogs, an extra one will definitely come in handy! It's collapsible and lightweight, so you can put it in your pack or pocket on a hike.

Cairn Subscription Box Review November 2015 - socks

Injiji Trail 2.0 Midweight Mini-Crew - Value $15

Ah, toe socks. The sweetest taboo. I haven't had toe socks since I was a little girl, because, you know, look at them. BUT, these are supposed to be super supportive and really helpful for hiking or trail running.

Cairn Subscription Box Review November 2015 - bands

NiteIze BetterBand 12" - Value $5

I never get too excited when I get organization aids in these outdoor boxes, but my husband really does. These can be used to bundle things, and there's a slipknot to make for easy size adjustment.

Cairn Subscription Box Review November 2015 - snacks

Rip Van Wafels Traditional Waffle - Value $1.50

I actually ate this for breakfast this morning because I was running out the door on an empty stomach, and it was delicious! They are made with oats and flaxseed oil, and even though they are small and have only 130 calories, they are really sweet and filling. I wish I had visited this page on Amazon before I ate it, though, because it has some great suggestions on how to eat them, like with almond butter and bananas. Yum!

Little Red Wagon Geo Coffee - Value $2

I love the convenience of pour-over coffee. We are saving these up for our next camping expedition, but I can't wait to try this one!

Cairn Subscription Box Review November 2015 - envelope

Cairn's envelopes always look so enticing!

Cairn Subscription Box Review November 2015 - extras

Here are our extras for the month! Clockwise from left, we have 30% off Little Red Wagon, 15% off prAna, 25% off Ruffwear, 25% off BetterBand, 20% off Rip Van Waffles, and 25% off Injiji! This was a great month for coupons!

The Verdict: We are becoming big fans of Cairn! We have used just about everything they have sent us over the past five months. This month's box has a value of about $38, which is great for a $25 box, and their value from month to month has been consistently significantly higher than the cost. Cairn is such an awesome way to discover new outdoor products!

I also got the water filter. I wouldn’t use the dog bowl or the toe socks, but sadly the water filter isn’t better than any of the ones I already have, so I probably won’t be using it, either. I’m not a coffee drinker, but my girlfriend is and she didn’t like the coffee. It’s a nice idea, but it isn’t better for lightweight travel than good instant coffee.

OMG, “Ah, toe socks, the sweetest taboo” Maybe the best line I’ve ever read in a review.

Lol! Thanks Erin!

They are different! I don’t have a dog, so instead of the dog bowl and socks I got a water filter. 🙂
