Jouer Le Matchbox Subscription Box Review – Fall 2015

This post may contain referral/affiliate links. If you buy something, MSA may earn a commission. Read the full disclosure.

Le Matchbox is a brand new subscription box from Jouer Cosmetics. I’ve sampled Jouer thanks to Birchbox, and I’ve been very impressed with their makeup products, so I signed up for this box immediately!

UPDATE: This subscription is currently out of stock. But you can buy just the fall box.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

FYI – my subscription to Jouer was cancelled due to a billing issue, so I ended up just buying this as a one-time purchase box. I believe that’s why I received it so quickly.

The Subscription Box: Le Matchbox

The Cost: $45 a quarter for subscriptions. Subscriptions are currently sold out, but this box is available for $65

COUPON: Use coupon code ALLURE25 to save 25% off a one-time purchase at Jouer. (That brings the cost of the box down to $48.75, and you can pick two free samples with your order).

The Products: “Each selection is determined by responses to our quiz, providing you with an assortment of full size Jouer essentials most flattering for your coloring and suitable for your skin type.

Each curated box is accompanied with a mini magazine providing product details and application tips. Jouer delivers the most advanced skincare benefits, effortlessly luxurious colors, in smart on-the-go packaging.”

Keep track of your subscriptions: Add this box to your have list or wish list.

When you first sign up for this box you take a quiz to determine if your skin is warm or cool toned, and that will dictate which makeup shades you receive. (My box is cool tone).

The box comes with an info booklet that details all the items you may receive. (Palette and lip gloss are determined by warm or cool box selection).

Jouer Long-Wear Eye Brightening Primer – FULL SIZE! Value $24

Jouer Kitten Liner – FULL SIZE! Value $28

Yay – both of these items are paraben free! The click pen applicator for the primer is great for getting it on my lids evenly – I only needed to blend with my finger a tiny bit. I’m wearing it and the eyeshadow from this box right now – so far no creasing!

The eyeliner is a new product that is launching first in the Jouer Le Matchbox. There is nothing too revolutionary about this product, but it goes on smoothly, stays put and is easy to apply right against the lashline. No complaints! (Liner swatched in a photo below)

Jouer Moisturizing Lip Gloss Mini in Pink Glace – 2.5 ml Value $11

(This is the cool box color selection. The warm box will include the Starfish shade). This shade is pretty sheer with a lot of shimmer and gloss. (Swatched below).

Now onto my favorite part of the box… the palette!

Jouer Ready to Wear Cool Collection Palette – Retail Value $45 (in the booklet, Jouer lists this as “$45 Value $100”)

(This is the cool version of the palette. The warm version includes the same bronzer and highlighter, but the blush and eyeshadow shades are different).

Yay for palettes! There’s something about the upcoming holiday season that just makes me want to buy all the palettes. (This is probably because all makeup companies release amazing looking palettes around this time each year!)

The bronzer is a matte shade, and the blush has a subtle shimmer to it. The highlighter goes on so sheer I couldn’t photograph it for swatches, but I absolutely love the formula. You get a sheen/slight shimmer without any white.

The top two eyeshadow shades are matte, and the bottom two are shimmer. The Havana shade looks super sparkly in the pan, but the sparkles aren’t as noticeable when applied. (I’ve swatched all colors in the photo below).

And the palette comes with a fold-out card with tips on how to apply the eyeshadows for different looks.

And each box comes with a tote:

I believe there will be variation on the tote text. The tote itself is a good quality one. It’s bigger than a Golden Tote (trying to think of a good tote reference), and it has a bottom section as well (so it could stand up if you have items in it).

Verdict: This box has a value of about $118 if you value the tote at $10. I think that’s a pretty good value for the $65 cost, but I wish I had ordered this with the 25% coupon! I would definitely be happy with it for that price. I think all the items are great quality, and I like the eye makeup theme for this box.

What do you think of the Fall 2015 Jouer Le Matchbox?

  1. This box is awesome! I LOVE the colors in the palette! That lipgloss is really pretty too! Thanks for the review. I’ll be adding this to my account info. What if i use this email to comment and enter rafflecopter/giveaways but the email for my wishlist on here is different? does that matter for contests at all?

  2. Is anyone interested in purchasing this entire box, including the tote? They sent me an extra, inexplicably. I have the warm box. $45 shipped.

    • Can you show me the warm palette?

  3. Just wanted to add my experience with Jouer. Customer service is very accommodating. I had ordered warm for last box and got cool, and when I let them know they told me to keep the cool tones and sent me the warm tones. With any problem or questions I have had, I just email them and get a response within 3 days. I really like this company and the products are quality, well worth the cost.

  4. I thought about doing a one time purchase of the box and I did get the code to work but there is a $7.95 shipping fee and no options to add samples, just FYI.

  5. Hi Jouer girls!

If you have been having any problems with your accounts/ subscriptions please give us a call at (800) 315-5374 or email us at [email protected] we are more than happy to solve any problems that may be occurring. And everyone’s Le Matchbox should be shipping soon and arriving in your hands!

  6. Yesterday my email was answered and I was told all the boxes are shipping out this week.

  7. I love this box, and am really looking forward to everything in it.

  8. I LOVE this box! I had CC issues too, so anyone who had a problem with their card not updating or something else, call customer service! They’re amazing and super helpful! They had to create a new account for my new CC number and I’ve got my box now!

  9. I had the same issue with my status as pending since September 26th. I called customer service and was told that there was a credit card issue. I changed my card several weeks ago, but was told that the new card info doesn’t always save on Jouer’s side. I updated the info with the rep and confirmed that my sub renewed at its original price. Voila!

  10. How do you select the 2 free samples? I didn’t see that option when I just ordered.

  11. Hmmm, I’ve been a subscriber since launch and my fall order status on their website has said pending since 9/27. Anyone else still have their order listed as pending?

    • Mine is the same. I thought it was because my CC had expired. I added new one right away but haven’t seen any movement in my account. Bummed. I love this box.

    • I’ve been a subscriber since the first box too and still haven’t received word on this next box either even though my card was charged on 9/25. This box looks great and I’d like to have it in my hands!

      • Women on other forums said its not shipping out for most until next week. they contacted CS and they told then next week.

  12. I got mine last Friday and I have a subscription. I love it! This is one of my favorite beauty boxes, ever. My tote says something about friends and eyebrows (I forget exactly what). I don’t care for the pink glace – why does Jouer insist on sending me super light pink lip products? but since it’s a super small sample, it doesn’t really affect my enjoyment of the box. Very happy with it!

  13. And-isn’t this the slogan that was on some shirts that got pulled? It looks like it was an Audrey Hepburn quote…looks like it was the British company called Next.

  14. I’m sorry, but this annoys me. I have a subscription and mine has yet to ship, and people just buy a one off, use a coupon and get free samples ($3 more), get it before I get a shipping notice?
