Dollar Shave Club Subscription Box Review October 2015 - 4

Dollar Shave Club included a little newsletter this month, and it was all about Halloween.  Fitting for an October box!  (And not terrifying, like something I received in one of my other boxes!  Review on that one to come...)  If you've never looked at their website, I would recommend it for a laugh.  Their marketing is quite amusing.  The marketing is mostly directed toward men, but I've used many of their products and would recommend them all.

Miracle Repair Serum - Cost to add to box - $12.00

This serum is intended to be used after shaving, and it's purpose is to soothe razor burn, ingrown hairs, and irritation.  I used it after shaving my legs this morning.  I did notice that I didn't have any razor burn, even though I keep forgetting to swap out my blade.  I can't definitively say it was this (or the moisturizer), but I do think it made a difference.

Magnanimous Post Shave - Cost to add to box - $9.00

This is a very emollient moisturizer.  I used this after the serum this morning, and I still feel adequately moisturized at the end of the day.  The size is a bit small, but it will work perfectly to go with me on vacation this weekend!

The 4X Razor - $6.00 for 4 blades

I currently am working my way through my previous shipment of the executive razor from Dollar Shave Club, so I haven't tried these out yet.  These were on my list to try next, because they claim this blade works well for men and women.  They call it the "Lover's Blade" because it was designed for both men and women, and they anticipate that your significant other will steal it.

The 4X Razor handle - Included free with your first shipment

Dollar Shave Club includes your first handle free.  When you switch blades, they also ship you a free handle for the new blade.  You can add on additional handles to your shipment at any time.

Dr. Carver's Easy Shave Butter - Cost to add to box - $8.00

I've been using this shave butter for the past few months and really like it!  It is non-foaming, and a little bit seems to go a long way.  The price tag initially turned me off, but I think they have made me a repeat customer.  It lasts forever and smells great!

The verdict: Dollar Shave Club is one of those subscriptions that saves me money each month.  If I were to buy the razors I was previously using every month, I would be spending at least double on razor blades.  These blades seem to do the job just as well, and I don't even have to tempt fate by entering Target (anyone who can get out of Target under $100 is my hero...) when I run out of razors!  The add on products all are high quality and reasonably priced for what you're getting.  I would highly recommend this subscription to anyone that shaves...which is most everyone!

Bekki first discovered subscription boxes in 2014 and they quickly took over her life! (Not quite, but pretty close.) She started with POPSUGAR Must Have, then moved to Little Lace Box, Birchbox, Hamptons Lane...the rest was history. Her favorite product find is Beekman 1802 Fudge (so, so good) and her favorite boxes are Birchbox and Hamptons Lane...but she's always looking for a new subscription to try!

I sub’d (DSC) for my husband and he loves it. He said the shave butter is great (I will 2nd that; his face feels so smooth & looks great). We have the 4 blade deal and like getting a monthly shipment. Nice to know that you can order directly (the same blades) from Dorco, but hubby & I don’t want to stock alot of blades. Plus, it frees up my $$$ to “invest” in other subscriptions 🙂

How good are the razors themselves? The bf and I both are picky and our favorite razor has been discontinued. So we’re looking for a replacement.

There are alot of reviews on Amazon saying they are really bad blades. All of them. You shouldbgo the reviews on amazon they are honest people. Some reviews are fake on other sites saying these are the bedt blades. Amazon was an eye opener.

Dollar Shave Club razors are sourced from Dorco – if you’re looking for quality CHEAP razors, just buy directly from Dorco. They’re about a third of the price directly from Dorco.

Dorco offers deals often to get a lady’s or men’s starter pack, which lets you try out all their different blade sizes and handles. I’ve converted many friends and past boyfriends to their products now.

The Dorco CEO (apparently the CEO at least) randomly sent me a free razor and a handwritten note after I had placed an order recently thanking me for my purchase and hoping I would shop again. It was a nice surprise!

I agree about the purchase from Dorco. I have never been disappointed with any of their blades and they have some of the most excellent customer service. I had one set of blades that they would not hold onto the handle. I sent an email and in two days I received a replacement pack as well as another pack for free. The blades in this review are the ones my husband uses most and he loves them more than the expensive ones that I used to purchase. Plus you can almost always find a discount code and emails from them.

Thanks! 🙂

Love DSC and have been using them for a few months now. My husband started using it as well after I raved about the razors and shave butter. Neither of us shave often enough to get a shipment every month or even every other month, but you can easily go into member options and put shipping on hold until you need your next box. I only recently tried the moisturizer since he ordered that, and if I ever get through all the moisturizer I own, I’ll order more for me. I haven’t tried the serum.

The exact same 4 and 6 blade razors can be bought in bulk for cheaper from Dorco, but you do have to buy a lot of them to get free shipping. If you’re really looking to save money, though, you can pause DSC until you need products from them and then use the Dorco cartridges in between.

They sent me a sample of the shave butter with my first shipment this month (5 blade executive) and it wasn’t bad but I found it drying. Might try a different one though. Love the no parabens! And I can’t complain since I got the first box for free with the $10 code from Gilt when liz posted it!

I really want to add that the Dr. Carver’s Miracle Repair serum is also an amazing facial serum! It has a huge amount of hyaluronic acid, an array of antioxidants and anti irritants, and no added fragrance. It beats many high dollar products! The Magnanimous Post Shave has the same benefits but in a moisturizer rather than serum, I love it for night, wish it had SPF for day.

I love the Shave Butter. I’m (finally!) almost out of my first full size tube. I purchased it with my first box (I also have the 4x razor). I don’t shave as often as a lot of people, a pack of 4 blades last 6-8 weeks, so I have it set to ship every 2 months). When I joined I had about 5 blades left from my Venus days though. I’ll be getting my third shipment next month. So, that should give an idea about how much the Shave Butter goes (as I was using it with the Venus blades left as well).
