My Pretend Place is a subscription service for children, offering both a quarterly subscription of costumes and theme-related items, and a monthly craft subscription. The costume subscription is always a lot of fun! This review is of the monthly crafts subscription.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

My Pretend Place includes little extras like this every month - a note, some stickers, and a handle to turn the box into a case for the finished products.

My Pretend Place Craft Subscription Box Review + Giveaway August 2015 - letter

This is a letter sent to the kids informing them of a baking competition. I really like that they always include letters like this! It's good reading practice, plus it adds wonderful imagination to the creative process.

My Pretend Place Craft Subscription Box Review + Giveaway August 2015 - instructions

This month's craft is chef's gear! These are the instructions. The very first package we received from MPP Crafts had instructions that were kind of confusing, but every month since then they have been much better.

In addition to the chef's gear, they also sent instructions on how to make homemade play-dough (supplies not included). Nice! It also goes with the theme, because they sent cookie cutters to practice cutting dough in the finished chef apparel.

These were all the supplies that were included this month to finish our projects. You can also see the cookie cutters here.

The verdict: I usually include pictures of my son's completed projects in my reviews, but both children have received no less than 4 sets of DIY chef gear in subscription boxes this year, plus loads of modeling clay projects lately, so I just couldn't get them interested in doing this again. It's totally not My Pretend Place's fault, though! This is a great craft idea, especially from a service that specializes in dress-up play! I appreciate the inclusion of the play dough recipe this month especially. I think My Pretend Place Crafts is a great subscription for a low price that actually does engage the children in creative pretend play. For some reason (maybe the low price), I also think this would be a great sub for grandparents or aunts and uncles that regularly spend time with the kids in their lives.

Since we have done so many DIY chef costumes lately, we are giving this one away! Enter below for your chance to win!

My son loved this and he even let me take a cute pic. I’ve really enjoyed this subscription so far 🙂
