Golden Tote $149 Tote Review – September 2015

This post may contain referral/affiliate links. If you buy something, MSA may earn a commission. Read the full disclosure.

Golden Tote is one of my favorite monthly packages – and I think a good deal of my wardrobe is now from Golden Tote items!

If you aren’t familiar with Golden Tote, here’s a really quick intro: Every month you get to pick out 1-2 pieces, and they surprise you with the rest. (The surprise items are completely different from the pieces you pick from).

FYI – This is not a typical subscription, each month they release a new collection and you can decide whether or not you want to buy it. For returns it’s an all-or-nothing deal. You can return the entire tote for a refund, but you can’t return individual pieces.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

(FYI – I also paid for expedited 2-day shipping).

I love the tote design this month!

The Box: Golden Tote

The Cost: $49 or $149 (This review is of the $149 tote)

The Products: Clothing items you pick plus surprises from Golden Tote!

Ships to: Everywhere! Flat rate ground shipping within the US is $9.95. International is $30. Free shipping on US orders of $149 or more and International orders of $149 or more are charged $25.

Delivered via: UPS

Golden Tote also includes some styling suggestion cards for the items you pick.

On the Fringe Plaid Cardigan – Value $42

(100% Cotton, Hand wash cold, dry flat).

This is one of my picks for the month. It’s a perfect flannel to go with jeans and a tank – I know I will be wearing this a lot!

I decided to go up with the sleeves rolled up look:

Otherwise the flannel was a little too much loose fabric.

Puella La Boheme Maxi Dress in Olive – Value $78

(95% Polyester, 5% Spandex, hand wash cold, lay flat to dry).

I own this dress in black and I love it, so I had to go with this new shade when they introduced it! I love a good maxi, and this Puella one is comfortable but still flattering.

Both of my picks were a success! On to my surprise items:

Fantastic Fawn Open Cardigan – Value $35?

(63% Rayon, 33% Polyester, 4% Spandex; Hand wash cold, hang or line dry)

I like the Fantastic Fawn brand, but this piece isn’t a perfect fit for me. I’m OK with the print, but the front ends of the cardigan are too long and a little distracting!

Here is a better look at the print:

Le Lis Top – Value $35?

(100% Polyester, Hand wash cold, hang or line dry)

This top is slightly boxy (which I normally don’t like), but I love the neckline and color so much that I’m overlooking my boxy issue for this top!

Potter’s Pot Joggers – Value $40

(65% Polyester, 35% Rayon, dry clean only)

These pants are incredibly soft and comfortable – the perfect lounging at home pant! And they have pockets! My only issue is the dry clean only instruction. I will be taking that as a challenge – hopefully these make it out of the laundry and still fit!

Le Lis Dress – Value $35?

(95% Viscose, 5% Spandex; Hand wash cold, lay flat to dry)

I’ve received a dress like this one before from Golden Tote (in a different color), and this one is a better match for me – black fabric is more forgiving!

Verdict: With the exception of the Fantastic Fawn cardigan, this box was a win for me! I love my two picks, and got some good surprises too. I think my favorites are the Le Lis Top and the joggers.

What do you think of Golden Tote? Did you get a tote this month?

  1. I know this comment is kinda out of place but I can’t find the review I’m looking for. Do you remember which subscription it was that you got the black leather jacket with the sweatshirt material underneath? Thank you ! =)

  2. I received the Fantastic Fawn Open Cardigan last month (I ordered almost a week before September 1st so late August) and I love it!!! I totally understand what you’re saying about it being a bit too much in the front but I have another cardigan that is longer than this one so it wasn’t too much to get used to. I received the blue dress like your green one and I love it!!! I’m a curvy girl and it really accentuates them!!! So all of you curvy girls get the blue dress!!! It looks amazing on curves!!! 😉

  3. I am in need of new clothes and was going to ask about Golden Tote fabrics, so thanks for including the fabric composition. But I have just discovered that I currently look horrible in polyester (it emphasizes every feature I’d rather keep hidden) so I guess I will wait until I have lifted weights for awhile. One or two rounds of P90X should do it…

  4. I love that plaid cardigan!

  5. Not sure if somebody else did but I got a surprise $10 credit email from golden tote today, saying they “appreciate” my business.

    • I got that too! I like that it doesn’t expire.

  6. Hi. Those pants do not need to be dry cleaned. I have washed and dried mine and they are completely fine.

    • Good to know – thanks Sarah!

    • I would pretty much never dryclean a dress, so those loungepants have no chance. Now I’m curious what kind of person actually would dryclean loungepants…

    • I have a shirt that’s a similar blend to those joggers and I just put it in a delicates bag and wash it on cold with Woolite (my washer doesn’t have a gentle cycle). Then I lay it flat on a drying rack to dry it. I’ve never had an issue washing any delicates this way.

  7. Hey Liz,

Dottiebox mystery boxes are on sale! Let me know where to post these notices to you. They are $21 with shipping.

    • they are out of stock now 🙁

  8. I love the joggers and the black dress! I like the idea of the plaid cardigan but I’d have prefered just a gray/black option. But, I’m weird like that lol.

    • Did you see the beige/black version they have? Love.
