GlossyBox Subscription Box Review + Coupon – September 2015 Box

GlossyBox
3.3 overall rating

GlossyBox is a monthly beauty subscription box. They have the best packaging in the business, their products are usually deluxe-size or full size, and the value is usually really good too. The only issue with this box seems to be the late shipping – I would recommend just keeping that in mind and setting your expectations accordingly if you sign up for this box.

GlossyBox sent us this box early for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

GlossyBox Subscription Box Review + Coupon – September 2015 Info

Each box comes with a fold out card detailing the items included.

GlossyBox Subscription Box Review + Coupon – September 2015 Bauble

And this month's box also included a unique 20% off coupon code to BaubleBar. (Expires 10/5) I will be using this!

GlossyBox Subscription Box Review + Coupon – September 2015 Scrub

Coffeascrub - 100 grams Value $8

I think this is my favorite item in the box. It's made with all-natural ingredients: Roasted coffee, brown sugar, sea salt, extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, cocoa, cinnamon.

It isn't too oily, and I LOVE the cinnamon scent addition!

GlossyBox Subscription Box Review + Coupon – September 2015 Bio

Biossance The Revitalizer - 4 ml Value $4.60

This is basically a lightweight oil. It isn't scented, and can work for your face, hair, hands, cuticles, etc. I tried it out on my hands/cuticles, and I love how soft it made my skin feel - I'm a fan!

GlossyBox Subscription Box Review + Coupon – September 2015 Blush

Emite Make Up Arist Colour Powder Blush in 108 - FULL SIZE! Value $22

(Swatched below). This blush is more pigmented than I was anticipating! (AKA - clown cheeks were achieved on first brush stroke). I like the color, and since it is so pigmented, this should last me a while!

Nails Inc Uptown Nail Polish - FULL SIZE! Value $14

(I found the gel effect version of this polish on the Nails Inc site, but not the standard version). I like this color a lot (I'm very into neutrals when it comes to nail polish), and this dusty blush pink creme is beautiful! (FYI - the polish name is listed in the info card, so I'm assuming all subscribers will receive the same color).

GlossyBox Subscription Box Review + Coupon – September 2015 Julep

Julep Luxe Lip Conditioning Treatment in Sheer Coral - Retail Value $24

I wish GlossyBox wouldn't include Julep products (only because I have a Julep subscription and I buy way too many Julep Mystery boxes), but I could see how this would be a good way to discover Julep if you aren't already a subscriber. The formula isn't sticky, and it adds a good amount of shine. (Swatched below).

GlossyBox Subscription Box Review + Coupon – September 2015 Swatch

Verdict: This box has a retail value of about $73 (assuming the retail price listed for the Nails Inc polish is correct). I wasn't too excited about the Julep lip gloss spoiler when I first saw it, but the rest of the box actually is a great fit for me. My favorite discovery is definitely the coffee scrub.

I know this is several months late LOL, but I get so many sub boxes and it takes me longer to get to trying all the products. I actually really hated the coffee scrub as it is extremely messy. It looks and smells like I just saved my coffee grounds and it leaves a huge mess in the shower and tub. I know that’s the point of being natural, but I’ll stick to the sugar scrubs that don’t stand out, natural or not. I got an Honest Co sugar scrub jar in a cream color from my PopSugar box that I love.

I received the GLAMGLOW (YOUTHCLEANSE Clearing Daily Cleanser) instead of the coffee scrub. I hope that I like it. Everything else I received was the same. Definitely don’t like the blush or the nail polish. This is my first box.

Reply ButtonReply

Missy

For some weird reason, I got this same exact box, except instead of the coffee scrub, mine has Glamglow Cleanser in it. The card is exactly the same too but the coffee scrub picture is not there and the GlamGlow tube/info is instead.

My gloss is sheer fig, which is an odd color, and not my favorite but oh well. The blush in 108, and then the nail polish in Uptown, and the Revitalizer moisturizer. All in all it’s a solid box. I also like the 20% off BaubleBar code, that’s a nice one.

Did anyone else get this box though?

I cancelled this month.

Got the julep lip gloss. It was separated in the tube and came out disgusting. The taste made me ill.

The blush is streaky. Doesn’t go on well at all. The pigment was OK but it goes on in blotches.

At 30 CDN a month I can go to sephora and buy 1 or 2 nice full size items that I know are quality.

You used to be my favourite box glossybox. I will remember the good times!

I received my box yesterday and my blush came completely crumbled. I emailed them last night and got a response right away and was able to choose a different replacement item. I also received the shampoo (haven’t tried it yet), the Biossance (which I loved as a cuticle oil!), the Lipstick (color actually worked for me) and the nail polish, which I found too similar to the nail polish last month. I do appreciate their quick response and I hope it won’t take too long to get the replacement item. Hopefully next month will be bette, especially with the French theme.

Got the same as Liz but w/ the shampoo(my favorite thing, though scrub would’ve been even better)
and the Stixx lipstick in a pink that goes on waaaay to bright for someone of my pale complexion…it’s sad cause if they had picked a diff color I would love it(and I still tried to until I saw how it looked on me *eep*)
Thought the blush was great but again, not my color and the nail polish, man I LOVE nail polish(Julep subscriber here) but nude is not even in my top 20…REALLY wish they would add that to their profile questions so those who love nudes get them but those who want anything but won’t. Or at least to have color part be in the surveys!
Anyways, I love glossybox for introducing me to so many new products I just wish more of them would actually work for me.

I am on vacation so I have to ask my husband to open the glossybox for me since I was scared of the broken blush. Luckily i got the intact blush, along with the lipstick, oil, shampoo and nail polish. Its not over the top but very practical box.

I’m normally relentlessly positive about Glossybox – I always feel like it’s worth the $20 and I’ve found some things I LOVE – but this month is the single worst box I’ve received (and I’ve been a subscriber for about 1.5 years). The blush was smashed to powder and leaked out, coating everything else in the box. I’m sick of getting nail polish every month. And I was really hoping for that Coffea scrub!!

On the plus side, I think the foaming shampoo is cute and smells good, and I’ll use the Biossance. (I also got a lipstick.)

I would contact Glossybox about replacing the blush but I’ve contacted them MULTIPLE times through their contact form & via email about something else and they WILL NOT respond. How do y’all get them to write you back?? Please tell me your secret!!!!

The value is good so I shouldn’t be so ungrateful, but I admit I’m disappointed.

Thanks for listening, guys. This is like therapy 😀

That worked, thanks for the tip!

I thought this month was a steady improvement from last month, so I’m pleased. The blush is too dark for pale people, but I think we pale people can just suck it for once considering all the times deep-toned people have to get makeup items that revolve around OUR skin tone, eh? And besides, it works as a nice eyeshadow too so there’s that…

Meg

I just received my September Glossybox today. I think I’ve finally decided to cancel. The products listed seem to add up to a decent value, but the brands are underwhelming/cheap and I always feel a little duped.

Julep gloss – Like everyone else said, I already subscribe to Julep (also canceling soon), and with my sub, I can probably get this for like $6 there. If I wanted it. Which I don’t.

Coffea scrub – I will probably use this, but not thrilled about it, since it’s not hard to make my own coffee scrub. This seems to be a new brand that must have provided free bags to Glossybox just to get exposure. There are no Google results, and both testimonials on the front page of the Coffeascrub website reference getting this in a subscription box (one quote is even from a My Subscription Addiction comment).

Briossance Revitalizer – You can get this same size complimentary sample by taking a quiz on the Briossance website. So yeah, thanks for this.. Also seems to be a new brand with not many Google hits besides its own website.

Emite blush – Highly pigmented but crumbly; I don’t like when crumbly bits of blush/eyeshadow are left on top after touching a brush to it. That’s a mark of low quality to me. Plus, once again, no Google hits besides Emite’s own website and reviews of people who got it in Glossybox. Bad sign, always displeasing.

Nails Inc polish – I guess this is the only decent thing in here, but I’ll probably try to sell or swap it because I already have a couple other nail polishes close to this color. That’s not Glossybox’s fault though.

It seems to me the only things Glossybox would have had to pay anything for are the nail polish and Julep gloss, which aren’t too exciting. Glossybox really needs to step it up with brand recognition. I will no longer be paying $21/mo for low quality brands I’ve never heard of. Not pleased, see ya later Gbox! *fart noise with a thumbs down*

I finally received my Sept Glossy Box today….so disappointed not to get the coffee scrub…instead I got a shampoo. On my profile I picked lip glosses….instead of the lip gloss, I got the lipstick. Well at least my blush came intact. UGH….hoping for a better box next month.

Hey there Barbra and Kim,

I want to thank you both for taking the time to voice your opinions.
There are a lot of factors at work regarding our beauty profile! We do use the profiles for research, as well as to customize based on certain aspects. The unique variety of products chosen each month is provided to a broad range of subscribers in the GLOSSYBOX family. Sadly, it will not be a perfect match each month.

Best,
Gabrielle from GLOSSYBOX

Kim

Same as you…I shouldn’t have peaked at spoilers because I was really disappointed to see that I got shampoo instead of the scrub and a bright red lipstick (another one, that I won’t use) instead of a gloss. I really don’t think they look at the profile descriptions 🙁

I liked my Glossybox this month. I got the stixx lipstick in a nude color, biossance oil, benefits shampoo, a pink nail polish and the blush. I really like the shampoo and lipstick so far. The nailpolish color is pretty. The blush is dark and way too much comes off on the brush. It’s the one item I doubt I’ll use.

Cindy

I got the same box you did. I was unhappy that the shampoo is not suitable for color-treated hair. So many of us put color in our hair. It seems easy and a no-brainer that shampoo that will not harm color-treated hair would be preferable (and also suitable for non-color-treated hair). So happy everyone if only they’d send a suitable product….

Hello Cindy,

Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience with GLOSSYBOX this month. I am sorry that you were not satisfied with the 12 Benefits shampoo. I will direct your criticism to my colleagues, so that we can improve our service in the future.

Khaleesi142

Hi all! This is my first box that I got through the Rue La la deal for $15. I love this box and got the same as Liz Except I got a nice sized Glamglow Mud to Foam instead of the Coffea so I was little bummed about that. I also am one of the lucky few who received an intact blush. I did promptly cancel so as to not be charged but will definitely keep an eye on this subscription in hopes of resubbing 🙂

Hello there Khaleesi,

The GlamGlow Youth Cleanse is an amazing exfoliant! It works to dissolve your makeup and gently remove dead surface cells all at once. This cleanse works with all skin types, from sensitive to oily. Hope you enjoy the cleanser!

Got the same box as Liz. Only my blush was smashed to pieces inside the container…I have contacted GB so let’s see what they do.

Did glossybox reply back yet? I just emailed them yesterday my blush was crushed and all over the entire box.

No, I haven’t heard back yet. But it’s only been like 16 hours. GB doesn’t work that fast…

Any update from glossybox? I just got mine yesterday the blush was EVERYWHERE! The black ribbon was even coated in it…. I sent them an email yesterday and I’m still waiting on a reply.

i didnt receive the coffee scrub or the lip gloss. received a lipstick and a face mask instead (which based on one review i’m glad i didnt try yet as i have a wedding friday – hives – yikes!)

I’m happy with this month’s box! I really hope this means they’re on the upswing. 🙂

My blush arrived fine, and I’m excited to try the Biossance product on my cuticles. I break out from oils on my face, so I can’t use it there, but I also have plenty of dry skin all over as the weather gets cooler and we start using the heat more, so I’ll definitely put it to good use.

I think the nail polish color is pretty. I wear all different colors, and I think this one will look nice.

I got Stixx lipstick instead of Julep, which I was hoping for. I got a pretty nude shade, so I’m happy with it.

I didn’t get the coffee mask, but that’s fine with me, since I don’t put oils on my face. I got the 12 Benefits shampoo instead, which I’m happy to try.

Reply ButtonReply

Cindy

I got the same box as you did. Unhappy with the shampoo that cannot be used for color-treated hair. Why can’t they just put in a shampoo that will work for regular and color-treated hair? So annoyed that I have tons of samples I cannot use!

Any clue how to advance the lipstick?

Hello there Cindy,

Similar to other lipsticks, you still twist to get more product, but for these lipstiks, the entire bottom half turns!

I got the Alex and Ani bracelet as a replacement and it arrived around the 9th I think.

Lisa

Hi, I got the surprise blush box mess as well. Everything was a mess and sadly I had to throw away the box, which I like to keep for storage. This box however was for a gift, which I can’t gift now since I had to throw away the outer boxes for most of the items. I contacted them and received the list above. Did a quick search of half of the items and I’m disappointed to see they are no where near the value of the blush. Hope someone can give some recommendations as to what to pick from the list.

U should choose the beauty blender..

lisa

This was my first box and I liked all the products, but I received The Aloe Source Luminosity masque instead of the scrub. I used it once at night, and I woke up that night with the most hideous case of hives that you ever saw. I’ve never had hives in my life, and I have no allergies at all-I guess up until now. I was hesitant to think it was this masque, but that was the only new thing I used or ingested the previous day. I’ve read that you can have a full allergic reaction to a beauty product, instead of just a face outbreak. I was wondering if anyone used this product and what their experience was? Thanks!

Hey Gabrielle,

Before I used this product, I looked at the container, and saw that it was USA made. That’s usually a good sign right there. No ingredients listed. Do you really think customers are going to go the company website and study the ingredients, for every sample they receive? You also just threw all your beauty providers under the bus, by saying that these things come “from all over the globe,” i.e., we don’t know what the heck is in this stuff.

With all due respect, lame answer. If you want me to check out the ingredients, put it on your description card. And I use all kinds of different products, and had no problem until now.

Jackie

My blush arrived fine, but its too dark for my pale skin so it’ll be on the swap site. I dodged the julep item because I got a lipstick that is way too bright for me in tangerine (also on swap site). I love the design though and wish it was in a color I could have used. I also rec’d 12 benefits shampoo, and the same polish and oil that Liz posted. (Oil also up for swap since I’m getting 2 of them.) I think the box has a good value, and I’m happy with 3 of the items so that covers the $15 I paid for it with the discounts. I have another one on the way (don’t know how I managed to overlap my subscriptions from ruelala) and I’m hoping to get the coffee scrub in that one. Guess I’ll find out Monday.

Glossybox just replied to my email regarding the broken blush. They are sold out of the emite blush, but gave me a long list of products to pick from as a replacement. I’ll be getting a doucce gloss or beauty blender as a replacement. Don’t hesitate to contact glossybox if you haven’t. ?
