Arcade Block Subscription Box Review August 2015 - Counter Strike Shirt

Counter Strike Shirt - Value $10?

All Nerd Block shirts are exclusive and this is no different. In high school I a friend that lived and died by Counter Strike. While I wasn't the biggest fan of the game, this did bring back some memories.

Arcade Block Subscription Box Review August 2015 - Scorpion Plush and Fallout 4 pennant

Mortal Kombat X 8 Inch Plush - Value $24.99

I got the Scorpion Mortal Kombat X plush! While I like Sub Zero, I pretty much always choose Scorpion over him - so this is perfect for me. There are some nice details in the mask and wardrobe - this is a really nice plush. Anyone get Sub Zero?

Boston Vault Dweller Pennant - Value $5?

This is an exclusive Fallout 4 item! I thought this was a cool and unique way to get everyone ready for Fallout 4!

Arcade Block Subscription Box Review August 2015 - Scott Pilgrim CD and Wrist Band

Scott Pilgrim vs The World Video Game Soundtrack - Value $10?

Next we get the soundtrack to one of the my favorite indie games in the past five years - Scott Pilgrim vs The World. I remember the music in the video game - so this should be cool.

Terry Cloth Wristband - Value $5?

Here's another Scott Pilgrim exclusive. I don't have much use for wristbands, but I do love this movie/comic/game and it's making me want to watch it again!

Arcade Block Subscription Box Review August 2015 - RETRO Magazine

RETRO Magazine - Value $6.99

Yay! I'm so excited to see this in the box. I was worried that they were only going to included this once, but last month I saw in the comments that it's a bi-monthly magazine - so I was hoping for it this month. The timing couldn't be better with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain being released yesterday! Is anyone already enjoy the latest installment?

Verdict: While this month wasn't my favorite box, there were some definite hits for me and the value is great as usual. I like the Scorpion plush much more than I thought I would, so that's a plus - and I've already started browsing the magazine. This is the second month with a CD in the box, and honestly, I'm not a fan of the CDs in these boxes so I hope it's not an ongoing thing - my computer doesn't even have a CD drive anymore!

What did you think of August's Arcade Block? It's getting into holiday/awesome video game season - what game are you most excited about!?

I spoiled this one for myself since I knew I wasn’t going to enjoy any of the hinted items inside (aside from the Fallout item which is.. disappointing, but not awful). Well. the plush is cute, actually, so it’s not entirely true.

The rest however… eh. This Summer has been pretty poor for Arcade Block but I will stick it out and see. I have gotten plenty to be happy about from them in the past so I’d like to see them improve.

I’m looking forward to Persona 5 this winter! 🙂

I honestly have never been more disappointed with a subscription box company as I have with Arcade Block the last few months. Subbed to the June 2015 box for 6 months. So far its been basically a complete miss every time. 4 blocks in out of 6 block so far, all have been less that satisfactory.

They contain more random items than they do arcade/videogame themed items in the box . I signed up for Arcade Block. Stop sending me CD’s you burn in house, Comics, and cheap filler items worth 1-3 bucks. Its like they are not even trying I feel. So sad because before june 2015 the items I saw in the boxes were great. The bigger the company gets, the cheaper they are.

Bottom Line, Value and effort is just not there. Avoid like the plague.

I completely agree with the disappointment of this sub. Either curation and quality need to come up or price needs to come down. I’ve decided to sit this one out and just look at the reviews.

My sentiments exactly – I subbed based on the pre-June boxes and have been disappointed ever since. I wish they’d start focusing more on quality, instead of including stickers, wristbands, and other cheap memorabilia. The price is high enough (with shipping) that subscribers should expect differently. I wonder if they changed their head curator/team recently.

This month marked the end of my three month sub with them and I can’t say I’ll be renewing. :I I feel like I wasted my money to be honest.
