Golden Tote is one of my favorite monthly packages – and I think a good deal of my wardrobe is now from Golden Tote items!

If you aren’t familiar with Golden Tote, here’s a really quick intro: Every month you get to pick out 1-2 pieces, and they surprise you with the rest. (The surprise items are completely different from the pieces you pick from).

FYI – This is not a typical subscription, each month they release a new collection and you can decide whether or not you want to buy it. For returns it’s an all-or-nothing deal. You can return the entire tote for a refund, but you can’t return individual pieces.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

(FYI – I also paid for expedited 2-day shipping).

Golden Tote $49 Tote Review – August 2015 Card

Each tote comes with a styling suggestion card for the item you picked that month.

This is the item I picked for my $49 tote:

Golden Tote $49 Tote Review – August 2015 Dress

Skies are Blue Sweet Summer Dress - Value $35

(Fabric content: shell: 100% polyester, contrast: 75% cotton, 25% nylon, lining: 95% polyester, 5% spandex; Care instructions: Hand wash cold, hang to dry)

I picked this dress since it seemed like a good value for a $49 tote item, and I like the Skies are Blue brand. The dress is lined, but I'll still probably need to wear a nude slip under it - white on white is still a tad see-through in certain lighting!

My favorite part of this dress is the cross straps and draping in the back:

Overall this is a very easy-to-wear summer dress - I'm happy with this pick!

Golden Tote $49 Tote Review – August 2015 Top

Renee C Top - Value $30?

(95% Rayon, 5% Spandex; Dry Clean Only)

When I pulled this out of the tote, I was thinking the print would be a little too bold for me, but I ended up liking the colors, and I think I can pull it off with jeans. The cut of the top is also very flattering, and the material is so soft.

I'm just hoping I can get away with washing it in a cold cycle instead of dry cleaning it!

Verdict: I'm happy with my item selection for the August Golden Tote (though I realize I probably won't wear it much until next summer - no white after Labor Day, right?). I also ended up liking the item selected for me, so this $49 tote is a win (assuming I don't ruin the Renee C top in the laundry).

What did you pick from Golden Tote this month? Any good surprise items?

Your surprise top is gorgeous, I haven’t pulled the trigger on trying Golden Tote yet, but if they keep up what I have been seeing lately, I might have to give it a try!

It’s no white accessories after Labor Day, not white clothing 🙂
only really applies to people who went to finishing school pre 1970. (I’m looking at you grandma!)

I wanted to mention that the return policy isn’t quite all-or-nothing. In order to receive a full refund (minus your cost to ship it back) you have to send everything back. But it IS possible to keep part of the tote — it will just cost more per item. From their website: “If you decide to keep part of your tote, please keep in mind the original bundled price will change. Any kept ‘chosen items’ will be sold at boutique price and surprise items for $35.” If you absolutely love one or two items, it could potentially be worth it to keep those and send the rest back.

Are you still in the Burgh? I see people wearing white after Labor Day around here. We are finally getting warmer temperatures. Go for it!

Congrats on the NYT’s article! http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/13/business/smallbusiness/subscription-box-start-ups-on-the-rise.html?_r=0

I don’t think the no white after Labor Day still applies! Wear what you want. Who cares about the rules.
