BoxyCharm Beauty Subscription Box Review – August 2015 Info

Each box comes with a card detailing the products included.

BoxyCharm Beauty Subscription Box Review – August 2015 Palette

Coastal Scents Revealed 3 Palette - Value $19.95

I love getting palettes in subscription boxes! Boxycharm has sent the other two Revealed palettes in previous boxes, and I really like that these include a good mix of matte, satin and shimmer shades. I'm happy with the pigmentation of these shades and their staying power - I would recommend using an eyelid primer though. (I swatched a few shades in the last picture to give you a better idea of pigment quality).

BoxyCharm Beauty Subscription Box Review – August 2015 Conditioner

NIOS Shield Leave-In Conditioner - Value $26

First, great news about this product: Not tested on animals. Does not contain phthalates, synthetic dyes, nano-particles, sulfates, parabens, or PABA.

This formula is designed to provide sun protection for your scalp (it has SPF 15), so the directions instruct you to massage it into your scalp. (Definitely not your typical leave-in conditioner!) The formula is similar to a sunscreen lotion, so I could see how that could result in greasy hair. I tried it out on my scalp as instructed, and then just a little bit on the ends of my hair.

I think I'll end up using it just on the ends of my hair - otherwise it will weigh my hair down too much.

BoxyCharm Beauty Subscription Box Review – August 2015 Pot

Mica Beauty Gel Eyeliner - Value $35?

Seta Eyeliner Brush - Value $16

Boxycharm originally listed this spoiler with a $35 value, but the only gel eyeliner I can find on the Mica Beauty site comes with a built-in brush, and it is 4 grams. (This one is 3 grams). So maybe the value of this is closer to $30?

Slight value discrepancies aside, I like the formula - it goes on smooth, and the brush they included is perfect for precision lines. (Swatched in last picture).

BoxyCharm Beauty Subscription Box Review – August 2015 So Susan

So Susan Statement Skin Highlighter - Value $20

(Can't find the product on the So Susan site, but the link goes to the product detail page if it were available!)

Unfortunately, this highlighting crayon experienced some damage in shipment and arrived out of the applicator and completely in the cap. I was able to rescue it, though!

And it is a good thing because it turns out that I really like the formula. It's the type of highlighter that is subtle and natural looking enough to work for everyday use, and it is so easy to blend. (Swatched below).

BoxyCharm Beauty Subscription Box Review – August 2015 Swatched

Verdict: This box has a value of about $112. I don't know how Boxycharm does it! I feel like almost every month the value is over $100 - so impressive for a $21 box. And I'll use every product in this box, so I'm extra happy.

What do you think of the August 2015 Boxycharm box?

I just received my August box. I guess it was a little late. I have to say everything in this box is excellent quality. One of my favorite boxes. I have the eye shadow on and it’s stayed put the whole day. No creases, the pigments were still in place even after being outside in 100 degree weather. The eyeliner and brush, omg excellent! I love the leave in conditioner, a little goes a long way. After 2 applications, my hair is soft and shines. My husband even commented on my hair. ? the so Susan glow stick is very smooth and velvety. Beautiful. I can’t wait to get September. I’m new to box subscriptions, applied for 5 on this site and I love each of them. August was my first month. And now September boxes are starting to arrive. Thank you to Liz for sharing your outstanding website. I love it. I’m spreading the word. ?

Does BoxyCharm not have a preferences area or quiz to get at least a general idea of each subscriber..I guess the last 2 or 3 subs I~have done have all had these so I have come to expect them. Or did I miss an area of their site..

No, boxycharm does not do quizzes or preferences. Actually, I like that about them. I’m constantly disappointed by ipsy because even though they have the quizzes, I feel like I get stuck with low-end products quite often that don’t suit my preferences. I like that with boxycharm, we all get pretty much the same thing every month, so I’m not feeling disappointed that I got a boring box while others got amazing boxes.

I absolutely loved this month’s box but my highlighter like yours also came broken and half of it was on the inside of the cap. I don’t think it was the shipment rather the product itself which was not well made to sustain ‘travel’. I didn’t like the highlighter though. I found it a bit like glitter and not the typical highlighter. BY far, my fave still remains Revlon’s

Sayuri

Just to add, why is the highlighter so small in size as opposed to the tube it is held in. This is very misleading.

I have had Glossybox almost a year now and only Boxycharm a few months. Like others I’ve been much happier with Boxycharm recently and will not be renewing Glossybox. The last good Glossybox for me was actually the February one. Sadly my highlighter looked exactly like Liz’s 🙁 I also live in PA maybe on the same trucks lol. I’ve loved every So Susan product I’ve tried!

I seen all the rave reviews on glossy box and subscribed and shows my first package will be here the 18th. I still get IPSY which is ok and canceled Birchbox last month . Seems like the shipping process takes a long time. When I joined it said I would recieve first package 5-10 days and it’s been 10 days I think today. Impatient. Hope I’m not let down

Got mine today!!! I love, love, BoxyCharm! The palette is gorgeous and I can’t wait to use the gel liner! Never knew about a highlighter stick but that’s what makes BoxyCharm fun and appealing!
BoxyCharm by far is my favorite sub!! This is my 3rd month……way better then Glossy!

I too am cancelling glossybox for boxycharm lol… unfortunately, I accidentally signed up for glossybox instead… I was happy to try it for a few months and love the box itself but I always find myself sooo jealous of the items boxy has… after seeing the palette, gel eyeliner, and highlighter… I’m sold. Glossy has to go! :/

I saw once a video where Boxycharm pitched their company to some investors in Florida, sometime earlier this year I think it was. It was very interesting how it works. Apparently they simply pay the brand/company/whatever the cost to manufacture the item for the box. So the brand isn’t out any cost, yet they have free advertising. And Boxy is able to keep the price the way it is and still make money. More power to them, I love the value of their boxes 😀 Definitely my favorite subscription box!

I just searched “how does Boxycharm make money” on good ol’ Google to find the video by the way. ^.^

Love love love boxycharm but this is now the 3rd month in a row that I am getting some sort of leave in conditioner. Not excited for this month’s leave in conditioner, hopefully it will be the last one for awhile .

Beth

I subscribed to this after seeing your previews ….I hope mine will ships soon 🙂 …and hopefully intact ….
I just had a makeup order from Hautelook come smashed ….it’s so frustrating when things aren’t packaged to protect powders/shadows.
I’ve been rather impressed with a few sub-services and the effort they take to ensure intact products ( wantable has great foam 🙂

Finding this site has been amazing …Yes addicting too …lol…I keep seeing other reviews that I love/have to have = another subscription

yes, so susan is so affordable – for 15.95 (plus shipping only for the first month – and it comes from UK) you get an inspirational cute makeup bag based on a theme with 4 fullsize makeup items mostly by So Susan (with Jelly Pong Pong or Beauty Crop items thrown in)…all are cruelty free, pthlalate free, made in Italy. Plus a bonus trinket of costume jewelry (tho this month is a 4pc cuticle oil set!). You can buy past bags to try them at 15.95 each (I recommend April) when you subscribe and if you spend I think $50, the shipping will be waived for all including your 1st sub bag.. It’s a great value, and the products are great. Use code BLUSH to get a free cream blush with purchase..

Cindy

I am confused by the pricing. Is it normally more than $15.95 and the first box is discounted? Thanks.

Erica

Hi Liz!

Do coupons come up very often for Boxycharm?

Thanks, Erica

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

I don’t think they ever have coupons actually. None that I can recall at least. Sorry! 🙁

Erica

Thank you!! = )

Looks like A bunch of people are doing what I did and cancelling Glossybox for this one. I’ve been SO disappointed with them for the last few months. And this does looks quite promising. Fingers crossed!

I love my Boxycharm box every month. My highlighting stick was fine and seems quite lovely. I don’t love the eye shadow but I can give it to my daughters. Highly recommend Boxycharm.

Windy

Are there any discount codes for boxycharm?

Reply ButtonReply

Kim

I got my boxycharm today. My highlighter crayon was fine. The product is super soft so I can see how it breaks easily. This is a great box. One of the best boxycharms IMO.

I Really Like And Want This Box ~But I Don’t Wanna Sub To Another Box Only To Find My Self Dissapointed After A Couple Of Months Of The Sub Box Going Downhill In Value!! So Do You Think This Sub Box Is Worth Subbing Or Should I Go For The BB CEW Box Instead??

Reply ButtonReply

Jessica

I HIGHLY recommend this box over ANY of the BB boxes. I subbed to them for a couple of years and finally cancelled my sub after receiving way too may foil packets and teeny tiny samples, or they see to focus a LOT on hair stuff. Not my style (even though I used them…… finally.)

I have finally found an amazing product for my hair, and I won’t likely be straying from it ever. So the value was decreased significantly for me after that. Oh well. Anyway, I know that this box is more expensive, but I think it’s worth it! Mostly full size products, with the occasional deluxe sample. Yes, please!

I’m getting statement skin in my So Susan bag this month. I’ve been eyeing it since it’s been released. So Susan wraps each piece in bubble wrap, so we’ll see if mine arrives better.

Reply ButtonReply

Cindy

Does everyone get the same box? How is their shipping?

Reply ButtonReply

Cheryl

received confirmation that my box was delivered today. I’m excited to check it out. One disappointing thing I noticed is that every person who has reviewed this box so far (there are several reviews on YouTube) indicated that their SoSusan highlighter arrived damaged. I suspect mine will be, as well. Perhaps this type of product is not best shipped in summer heat?

Reply ButtonReply

Jamie M

Fortunately, mine arrived in perfect shape. It does seem like a not-so-good product to ship in the heat of summer though. Hoping yours arrives ok!

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

Oh no – I was hoping my damaged highlighter was a fluke 🙁 At least it is salvageable, but I’m guessing Boxycharm is going to have a busy customer care time this week.

Reply ButtonReply

Crystal

Liz, when I saw that yours was broken, I was not surprised. I received a So Susan tinted lip crayon from Lip Monthly awhile back and mine was the same way. Not sure why their products do that 🙁 my box hasn’t shown up yet, so I hope mine isn’t damaged, fingers crossed!

Lisa

How can I subscribe to Boxy?? Their website isn’t working and hasn’t been for a while.

Are you using a link or typing in boxycharm.com? If the former, try the latter. The site is definitely up. Sounds like it could also be your browser settings.

This is the box that got me started on subscription boxes. It is still my fave. Good luck with the site!

great review and swatches! thank you!

Most of this box will be going to my sister for Christmas, lol. I don’t wear eyeshadow or black eyeliner. They’ll get used more by her then me! The highlighter looks promising, similar in color to the one from June, but in stick form, which I prefer. And I always love leave in conditioner. So its not a wow box for me, but I’m not unhappy with it either.

Corey

If I sub now will I get this box, or next months?

Reply ButtonReply

Bailey

You will get this months box 🙂 even if you sub on the last day of the month you will get that months box

Reply ButtonReply

Corey

Awesome! Just sub’d. Thank you!

Urbangirl

Yes you will!! Whatever month you sign up in, you will get that current month’s box. Hope this helped with your decision.

Reply ButtonReply

Michelle

OH! I love everything in this box! I think Glossybox may be losing a customer and Boxycharm will be gaining one!

Reply ButtonReply

Susanne

I ended up cancelling my Glossy Box and subbing to this. Actually, I was going to do both but, Glossy Box last month was a HUGE disappointment and the cs ultimately was the deciding factor for me to cancel. Now I’m trying to decide what box to sub to in place of Glossy…lol. There are so many good choices. Boxy Charm so far for me has been a big hit, so I’m sticking around.
