Wantable Makeup Subscription Box Review – June 2015 Box

Wantable is a monthly subscription service that has 3 different plans: Makeup, Accessories, and Intimates. (Plus a styling service for Fitness clothing similar to Stitch Fix in the try-then-buy model) It’s one of the pricier subscriptions ($40 a month), but everything they send is full size, and they fully customize the boxes based on your preferences. You also can return individual items from any box for a refund.

Wantable sent me this makeup box at no cost to review.  (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Wantable Makeup Subscription Box Review – June 2015 Details

Here is my invoice. In addition to the retail price of the item, they also include “your price,” which is how much you would get refunded if you wanted to return that item. (Wantable recently introduced individual item returns to their subscriptions. Previously, it was keep the entire box or send the entire box back for a refund).

Wantable Makeup Subscription Box Review – June 2015 Info

You get to take a very detailed survey of what items you love, like and dislike. You won’t receive anything in your dislike list.

Previously I was very specific with this list, but I’ve found that I have better luck at high-value boxes when fewer things are on my dislike list.

Wantable Makeup Subscription Box Review – June 2015 Chella

Bodyography Cream Shadow in Glimmer - Value $20 (My Price $8.70)

I like the coppery shimmer of this eye shadow cream, and it is richly pigmented too. (Swatched in the bottom picture).

Chella Water Resistant Mascara - Value $25 (My Price $10.87)

This mascara formula gave great lash definition (absolutely no clumping issues), but it didn't give the amount of volume and length I want in a mascara.

Wantable Makeup Subscription Box Review – June 2015 Lipgloss

Doucce Lip Gloss in Lush - Value $22 (My Price $13.91?)

On my invoice it says I should have received the Au Naturale Organic Creme Highlighter stick instead of this lip gloss, so I'm not sure if the "my price" is correct. The formula is pretty good for a lip gloss - a hint of shine, a good amount of color, and not too sticky.

Pout Shout Lip Gloss in Well Red - Value $15 (My Price $6.52)

This lip gloss is super pigmented - it gives a deep red look! The formula isn't too shiny, and not sticky either.

Here is a swatch of both lip glosses and the eye shadow:

Verdict: I think I would have preferred the box listed on my invoice instead of getting two lip glosses in this box, so I'd say this is just an OK Wantable Makeup box for me. The value is about $82, and I'm happy with that though.

What do you think of the Wantable Makeup subscription box?

I thought I did my research so signed up. August 2015 box has 29 cosmetics foundation – I can’t find any recent reviews since 2010, claims to be sold by Mieman Marcus but doesn’t come up in search although a direct link I found shows it sold out. So wondering is this closeout stuff from 2010? Also got a Robanda Facial Cleanser. Pretty much the same story on that. At least the Ofra lippie and Three Custom Color lip liner appear to be viable brands. The Ofra lippie is very orange but the liner might be ok. Didn’t open any of them because I just might return the whole thing. I wrote to them about the 1st 2 items. I mean what is the point of it, if you like something, you can’t buy it again.

Can you return makeup items that you have already swatched or tried on?

Honestly should be happy with anything you get for free, especially with an $82 value.

I have to disagree, just because it is free you still have a right to be happy or unhappy with it, Liz is just giving her honest opinion. It would bother me to have my items not match up with the invoice and if it were me I would contact the company to let them know. 🙂

Sorry, I did not mean to come across as unappreciative! I am very fortunate to get some boxes sent to me at no cost for review purposes, and at the same time I want to make sure I’m analyzing the box as if I had paid for it, so that the review is helpful.

Hope that makes sense! 🙂

Agreed, you give honest reviews and that’s what I like. Even if you get a box for free, you express your opinions on it. It’s useful on whether or not to subscribe to a box or not.

Jennifer

Liz, ignore the trolls!! We all know what the point you were trying to get across was.

Ragan

That’s the exact same eye shadow as in the Glossybox Mother’s Day box.

Yes, I noticed that too. As soon as the gold highlight part is used up, you’re left with a pretty unremarkable sheer pink cream that has no staying power, even with a primer.

Cloud

I thought that was the same one too! The pretty top layer goes away after the first few uses. 🙁

I read that somewhere. Which stopped me from buying it and saved me some money. Because it really did look pretty.

I canceled my Wantable makeup sub a few months ago, the first month was great, the 2nd was ok, the 3rd and 4th I returned. My value just went straight downhill, got eyebrow products every time when I said I didn’t use them. I could never get a red lipgloss or lip stick, that’s all I really wanted. They sent one that said it was a nice red lipstick, it was straight out nude pink, no where near red.
