The Ox Box Subscription Review – July 2015 - Box

The Oxford Trunk is an online boutique that sells very funky ladies' clothing and accessories. I love their style! They have a subscription box that I have been a fan of for some time now, but they recently changed their whole subscription model! It used to be a quarterly subscription, and now it's monthly. Also, you now have a choice among:

* Boho, preppy, girlie, and classic styles
* Large (3-5 items with a retail value of at least $85) or small (1-2 items with a retail value of at least $30, no clothing)
* Pierced ears or non-pierced

This review is of the small boho box for pierced ears.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Ox Box Subscription Review – July 2015 - necklace

This month, there was no postcard, no stickers, no smaller box, just this! A coin collar necklace! Whoa! I placed a coin over to the right to show that it had come loose during shipping. It's very easy to repair, though.

The Ox Box Subscription Review – July 2015 - necklace-on

Here's another picture of the necklace to give you some idea what it would look like on. It's huge!

The verdict: I'm not sure what to say! I do love unusual things, and I love coin accessories of all kinds, but this is so over-the-top! I'm just not sure when I would ever have an opportunity to wear something like this. I'm sure it's worth the $30 they promise for the value of their small boxes, although the box pieces aren't usually on their website. I guess all I can say is that my husband *really* likes it.

What do you think of the Ox Box?

Ewwww that necklace is straight up hideous!

I’m sorry, but that thing is hideous! Unless you are a belly dancer, and even then….

Holy gladiator breastplate! I’m very adventurous with all things fashion and accessories and often wear large, statement pieces. But this one would be too over the top…of my collarbone, my breasts, my rib cage, my neck, my waist….)

That necklace makes me think of bellydancers!

I think that’s what hubs is thinking too, LOL!

Wow! You got lucky, it’s missing the last layer (click on my name for product link). Some of the other ones they have are pretty cool, but you have to have the body for them.

Yeah, but isn’t AE wholesale? You couldn’t buy it for that amount unless you bought like a whole pallet of them or something, right?

Items on AliExpress usually don’t have any minimums, so you can buy just one if you wanted to. It’s a site aimed more towards the retail shopper.

Alibaba, the other site owned by the same company, usually have manufacturers that have a large volume order minimum (like 10,000 pieces).

It only costs about $7 on that link you posted so nowhere near $30. I’d probably be disappointed if I’d gotten this.

I bought a full sized Boho box in May, for the June box. I got a set of 3 rings and a bracelet, a matched set of earrings and a necklace, and a peasant-style top. Very happy with the box value.

One thing I don’t like is how far in advance you have to order – ordering today, 7/16, would get you a September box. If the turnaround was quicker, I think I’d be inclined to order more from them.

Agreed. Also, I think the large boxes are the way to go. You seem to get more bang for your buck, plus the odds are better that you will get something you really love.

Holy Cleopatra!

When you wear that somewhere you won’t have to worry about anyone else accidentally wearing the same thing. 😉 I agree with the other commenters, this necklace would be awesome with an all-black or all-white outfit. I like it.

I don’t think you need to save this for a special occasion you could wear it with something simple like a plain whit T-shirt and jeans or go the boho route with a tank and maxi dress. Then you can have a jazzed up look whether you’re going to the movies, mall or dinner.

Wow, that would look so stunning worn with a simple high-necked long sleeved black dress! I think you should look for special evening art exhibits or museum galas just to wear this piece!

Anna: Wow! Thats a big necklace. Very interesting – Is it heavy? It looks it? Wondering if there would be a way to make this necklace into a smaller necklace, and perhaps turn part of it into a bracelet. Maybe ad some small bells/beads instead of the coins to give it less bulk.

Anna

Hi lily! No, it’s not heavy at all, which is weird. I may size it down at some point, but I think I’m going to rise to the group challenge and try to wear it out first. 🙂

chris

Anna, you need to let us know how it goes! I think you can totally pull it off. 🙂

Bonny Adams

That is exactly what I was thinking. It seems like this could be sized down easily. Necklace, earings, bracelet….some jewelry pliers and a couple of earing hooks, .. viola!
