Comic Block is a new subscription box from Nerd Block - this is their second mailing.
This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).
The Box: Comic Block
The Cost: $13.99 plus shipping (Shipping is $6 to Canada, $6 to US, $10 Worldwide)
The Products: an exclusive comic themed shirt, 3 comic books, and a comic-themed collectible
Each box comes with an info card detailing the items included:
Batman Vs. Superman T-Shirt - Value $10
This is a ShirtPunch T-Shirt (seems like all Nerd Block Blocks are exclusively using ShirtPunch now) depicting the epic battle of Batman vs. Superman! Getting excited for the new movie yet? I am - especially if it has close ties the The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller. The graphic is big on this shirt - I'm definitely a fan of this one.
Superhero Pen - Value $1
Looks like there were three possibilities of what you could have received - Avengers, Captain America, or Superman. Nothing too special here, but I will use it.
OK - on to what we all came here for - the comics! I read all three, and loved discovering some new titles! It should be noted that all three titles were bagged and boarded.
21st Century Tank Girl #1 - Value $10
According to what this is selling for on the internet, the $10 value might even be a bit low. This is a Comic Block exclusive variant cover as well, which may raise the value. It should be noted, and I'm surprised that it's not on the card, that this is a mature comic book to say the least! Lots of swearing and nudity - be warned. Overall, it's a cool comic, it has 4-5 different mini-stories, all with their own art style and writing style, so I loved that. I wasn't hooked after this one, so I probably won't continue following the run.
Ghostbusters: Get Real #1 - Value $4
I absolutely loved this title. I watched A LOT of the Real Ghostbusters cartoon when I was little, and they are brought back in the "Get Real" run! This, again, is a Comic Block exclusive variant cover. I highly recommend this to any Ghostbusters fan, it looks to be the start of an awesome run. I will absolutely be following this run!
Groot #1 - Value $4
I had just read this one as well, since we received it in the latest Power Up Box. The difference here is that you're getting an exclusive variant cover, as opposed to the normal cover from Power Up Box. I'm on the fence about continuing this run, it's fun and has a more playful art style. I may give it a couple more issues to see where it goes.
Verdict: I really enjoy this subscription so far. In the past couple of years, I've been looking for more and more ways to get into new titles, so this is up my alley. Whether or not the value of items will be worth it to you will largely depend on you liking the shirt and bonus item - it's certainly more for curation and discovery, which is more valuable to me.
