Melissa Joulwan Quarterly Subscription Box Review #EAT04 Box

Melissa Joulwan is one of the chef Quarterly curators, and since her box has a paleo theme, I had to try it out. (I avoid dairy and gluten in my diet, so almost all paleo items work for me!) FYI - this is the last box in her subscription.

If you aren’t familiar with Melissa Joulwan, here’ is her Quarterly mini-bio:

Melissa Joulwan is the author of two best-selling Paleo cookbooks and a healthy lifestyle blog called The ClothesMakeTheGirl.com. The theme of her boxes is eating clean, training hard, and living loud.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process postto learn more about how we review boxes).

Melissa Joulwan Quarterly Subscription Box Review #EAT04 Paleo Pantry

Melissa includes a handwritten/drawn letter with each box – the theme for this box is Paleo Pantry essentials.

Melissa Joulwan Quarterly Subscription Box Review #EAT04 Recipes

She also included recipes for Sweet Umami Shrimp Salad and Schnitzel Meatballs.

Melissa Joulwan Quarterly Subscription Box Review #EAT04 Amrap

Amrap Bars in Almond & Honey (8 Pack) - Value $24.95

Amrap Instant Beet Juice for Endurance (7 Pack) - Value $21.95)

These Amrap Bars are really good! I like the ingredient list: Almonds, Honey, Unsweetened Coconut, Egg White Protein, Sesame Seeds, Cinnamon, Sea Salt.

Because of the egg whites, these bars have 15 grams of protein! I wish they had a little less sugar (15 grams as well), but it's still a relatively healthy bar in a pinch that's vegan and gluten free for me!

I haven't tried the instant beet juice yet, but I'm intrigued - it is designed to be taken 20 minutes before exercise.

Melissa Joulwan Quarterly Subscription Box Review #EAT04 Mayo

Primal Kitchen Mayo - Value $10

Is it weird to be excited about Mayo? I am seriously excited to try this stuff! Here are the ingredients: Avocado Oil, Organic Cage-Free Eggs, Organic Egg Yolks, Organic Vinegar (From Non-GMO Beets), Sea Salt, Rosemary Extract

Most mayo is made with soy or corn oil, so this Avocado oil sounds like a great change up!

Paleonola Granola in Pina Colada - Value $9

This granola is completely grain free, and I love the dried pineapple pieces - it is delicious!

Melissa Joulwan Quarterly Subscription Box Review #EAT04 Pork Dust

Pork Dust Fried Pork Skins - Value $4

Pork Clouds Fried Pork Skins in Malabar Black Pepper - Value $3

Melissa recommends using the Pork Dust as an alternative to breadcrumbs for meatballs, meatloaf, etc. I think I'll give it a try - I usually just omit the breadcrumbs from recipes. (Or just scrap the idea of cooking altogether and order Chipotle!)

Melissa Joulwan Quarterly Subscription Box Review #EAT04 Jerky

Chomp Snack Sticks -Value $6.75

These are made with 100% grass fed beef, and free of gluten, dairy, or any added sugar.

Verdict: I'm a little bummed that this is the last box from Melissa - because this is exactly the kind of box I wanted from this subscription! The value is about $80, and it's all great-find food items with some recipe ideas.

What do you think of the #EAT04 Box?

I got my box yesterday (I didn’t subscribe but emailed to get one), I tried the bars and pork cloud, love them. I plan to buy more AMRAP bars with the 25% coupon code. I was able to subscribe the box and subscription status is still on, so it seems this isn’t her last box.

This was sa good box. The first one was good, second one not, and this one good. Too bad the boxes didn’t keep going, if they would have been as good as this one.

Where does it say it’s the last box? I would so bummed, this is exactly the kind of box I’m looking for. But I’m signing up at Quarterly (next box August).

Jocelyn

It’s not vegan if it has egg whites in it, but it is vegetarian.

Isn’t honey also non-vegan?

AnnaD

You are correct. Honey isn’t vegan either because it is considered an animal product.
