Beauty Fix Subscription Box Review – June 2015 Info

Beauty Fix Subscription Box Review – June 2015 Cargo

Cargo Cosmetics Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 in Nude – FULL SIZE! Value $34

One thing to call out with BeautyFix – they send skin tone specific items but don’t offer any type of customization, so everyone gets the same shade. This is pretty disappointing for full-size, high-value items like this one – and something to keep in mind if you are considering subscribing.

Now onto the product! This tinted moisturizer is new to me, and I really like the formula. I like a good amount of coverage in a BB Cream, tinted SPF, etc. and this one fits the bill while still feeling very lightweight. The “nude” shade is a little too dark for my complexion, but will probably be perfect one I get a little tan this summer.

Beauty Fix Subscription Box Review – June 2015 Oscar Blandi

Oscar Blandi Volumizing Dry Shampoo Spray – FULL SIZE! Value $25

This item is currently out of stock at Sephora, and I’m wondering if the product is being phased out, and that’s why it has been in so many subscription boxes lately. I have quite a collection of Oscar Blandi dry shampoo now thanks to subscription boxes, but I like the formula, so that’s fine with me!

Paula’s Choice Sun 365 Self Tanning Concentrate – FULL SIZE! Value $18

This is the item I’m most intrigued about this month. It’s a self-tanner concentrate – you add a few pumps to any lotion of your choice and blend to turn it into a self-tanner. It can work for both face and body too. I love the idea of turning my favorite face and body lotions into self-tanner products, so I’m very hopeful about this concentrate.

Beauty Fix Subscription Box Review – June 2015 Cleanser

Roloxin Lift Revitalizing Facial Treatment .07 oz each (2) – Value $14 total

These are supposed to be an alternative to botox. Each treatment lasts up to 24 hours and is designed to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The instructions on how to use them are a little unique too:

Start by washing your face and leaving it slightly damp. Activate the packet by massaging it for 10 seconds, then dispense the formula and apply an even layer to your face, avoiding the eye area. Wait seven to 10 minutes for the mask to dry to a white powder (you’ll feel a slight tightening sensation that means it’s working). Rinse it off with warm water and pat dry. Follow with moisturizer and your regular makeup routine.

These get mixed reviews on Birchbox. From what I can tell they work great for some, and not for others. I didn’t notice a huge difference when I tried the samples I received from Birchbox, so I may end up swapping these.

iS CLINICAL Cleansing Complex – 2 oz Value $13

This cleanser is paraben-free and designed to be gentle on skin. I can always use more cleanser, so I’ll use this, and I it is a good sample size.

Beauty Fix Subscription Box Review – June 2015 Mask

Arcona Cranberry Toner – 1 oz Value $9

I don’t use toners that often, but this one is also designed to double as a makeup remover – which I always need!

Wei Golden Root Purifying Mud Mask – Value $5.25

I actually had this in my Birchbox cart for the longest time – it gets such great reviews. I can’t wait to try it.

Beauty Fix Subscription Box Review – June 2015 Shave Cream

Ashford & Co. Shave Cream – FULL SIZE! Value $25

Hm – I’m guessing Ashford & Co. is a Dermstore brand – when I went to the site listed on the packaging (, it redirected me to a Dermstore Ashford & Co. landing page. It is a little weird to get a men’s grooming product in this box, but you could always use it as regular shave cream. The scent is masculine, but not too strong.

Beauty Fix Subscription Box Review – June 2015 SPF

La Roche-Posay Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid – 3 ml Value $1.80

HydroPeptide Solar Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 30 – 4 ml Value $3.50

SkinCeuticals Physical Matte UV Defense SPF 50 – 3 ml? Value $3.40

I’m not too excited about these SPF minis, but considering how many full-size items are in this box, I really can’t complain.

Verdict: This box has a value of about $152 – that’s pretty insane for a $25 box! I’ve been so impressed with the brands, sizes of products, and quantity of items BeautyFix sends every month – and this is another great box based on those criteria. Of course, like I mentioned above, they sometimes send out skin tone specific items, so that can take away from the value significantly if those items don’t work for you.

What do you think of the June 2015 BeautyFix box?

  1. Currently you get 50% off Julys box if you do a monthly subscription. Awesome! And I have a suggestion – when doing beauty box reviews could you state whether they are customized or random or all the same. That would’ve great. Love the site I am such a sub box lover I love just reading the reviews 🙂

    • Thanks for the feedback – I’ll try to include that with future reviews!

  2. Just got my box this week too, and am really liking this subscription. I hadn’t recieved the dry shampoo in any other box, so I’m happy for a full sized one. The only miss is the Cargo moisturizer, which I am bummed about, as I like the Cargo products I’ve received from Birchbox, so I would have liked to have gotten a shade that I could wear (I’m really pale). I figure I’ll leave it sealed, and if I can’t trade it for something I like I may try it at the end of the summer when I am a little bit tan (although hopefully not too tan, due to all the sunscreen I’ve been getting lately!)

On my wish list for this sub is maybe an eye-themed box – a full sized eye cream for night would be awesome. Or a hair themed box like their mystery grab bags, with a hair tool as well as styling products. There are tons of products on their website I’d like to try, so far I seem to be a prime target for their curation other than being a little too fair skinned.

  3. I got my box yesterday and I am super happy. Once again, I’m going to be able to use mostly everything. The moisturizer in nude goes perfectly on my medium/medium light complexion. I also tried it on the very fair parts of my skin, and it gave me a slight tint, but not an objectionable one. I’d say, even if you are fair, give it a try.

The shaving cream smells very much like Irish Spring soap. Yes, it’s a basic masculine scent, but one that women can also wear. Plus it goes away quickly. I personally like it.

Note that on the box of the Anthelios sunscreen it says that there isn’t enough sunscreen to provide sun protection. As this seems to be a facial sunscreen (it says it’s for normal to combination skin), I’d be weary of how much protection any of the samples can actually provide. I’ll still keep them for emergencies.

The only two products I won’t use are the WEI mask (made in China) and the self-tanning concentrate. I put those up for swap. You can read my review of the box if you click on my name.

  4. OMG! FINALLY got this box after waiting forever.. In love. Period.

I cant believe the value for just $20 something bucks…

I am new to beauty boxes and cant believe what took me so long versus paying at the stores (where I had to wait and hope the high end products i loved went on clearance. Sigh.)

Im trying pretty much all of them but only wish to keep 2-3 after Ive tried a few months of each. Then special edition boxes when I need a “stock up”.

So far I love Birchbox (have 2 womens and 1 man), Beauty Fix. I loved the Net A Porter Valentines Day box. I bought Allure, Target, Wal Mart etc. Eh. Those wont be often, for sure. Just to see what they were like at first.

Thanks to Liz and this blog for the continued guidance! 🙂

    • Excuse me I also have bought a few Birchbox LE boxes and adore those. The points system is amazing. BB def my top favorite. I dont mind the small HIGH QUALITY samples monthly though of course what beauty junkie wouldnt rather have more than less, However, Id rather get .25 oz of a premium French grape serum sample than 2 oz of chemically filled Dial. Blah.

  5. hey guys? i accidentally fell in love with that tiny little bit of Skinceuticals Physical Matte spf? So if someone wants to trade it, hit me up yo.

    • Unfortunately the cost of mailing this sample is higher than the value of the sample itself. You might as well buy the full size sunscreen. DermStore often has 20% off everything discounts, so keep an eye on them.

  6. Liz –
If you were to compare this to the New Beauty Test Tube – which one would you prefer?

  7. Oh and I am having a faux psychic moment here… I can see many Beautyfix brand products in our future… LOL.. You see, I noticed not too long ago that they now have a Beautyfix line. Back in the old Beautyfix days. we got lots of their own stuff called IQ Derma. Anyways, we shall see….

PS. Love the toner! But not as much as Obagi. And the mask seemed a bit drying for my 51 y/o skin.

  8. Comment

  9. Whoa, just realized that I have $7 worth of face mask on my face right now. Better work miracles. LOL… Had enough to do my decollete and backs of hands.

Really do love Beautyfix. Just wish they would send a full sized light foundation for once. Please???? Even in the old old days, it was always darker stuff.

  10. If anyone wants to get rid of their Cargo, I’ll buy it off you! I was thinking of getting the box but just decided that was the only thing I really wanted 🙂

      • OK, I’ll email you 😉

  11. I didn’t see directions for the mask…anybody know how long to keep it on? Or if I rub it in?

  12. I loved my box! The dry shampoo is great to use after being out in the summer heat, it absorb the oil and summer heat smell.
The tinted cream is too dark, but perfect for my friend.

  13. My favorite part about this sub (other than the insane value of course), is I always am introduced to new brands or items I have not received in any other sub! I have been with birchbox for almost 2 years and was with Ipsy for over a year and never ever received a toner. Ever. The shaving cream I am actually super excited to try but I’m really excited for the tanning concentrate. I’m the pastiest whitest half-mexican ever (that Cargo will be too dark for me I can tell :() with a very long family history of skin cancer so if that stuff works and looks even remotely natural I will be swapping for them all off the swap site/buying a ton more. (also a product I would have never found on my own). That mask looks amazing and has great reviews, sunscreens are not exciting since the sun safety kit is sitting next to me as we speak but luckly they arnt the main items. I thought the cleanser would be bigger but I still have the oil one so thats fine. Dry shampoo I dont need but having a full size one would make a great gift or if anyone thinks it works amazing I might try it! Normally hey all are too white for my dark hair and dont come out though 🙁

    • In all fairness to ipsy, you’re comparing a $25 sub box to a $10 sample bag. Just sayin.

  14. I cant wait to get my box. I am excited about the tanning concentrate. I have so many lotions that I don’t use in the summer because I use the tanning lotions, so this will be neat to try. I do wish that when they decide to send out color specific items like the BB cream, that they would send little like card board samples and a redemption card for full size so everyone could get the right shade but oh well. If mine doesn’t match in the swap pile it will go!!!!

  15. have to agree with you Dashy every month my Caucasian and light skinned co- workers get a pile of of bb creams, highlighters and pale pink lippies that are too light for my deep golden tan complexion, not to mention all the dry shampoos and firming hair sprays…I’ve become a very popular lately…but no one ever wants the dreaded sea salt spray…

    • I love sea salt sprays! They work really well in my hair. Sorry we don’t know each other! Lol

  16. I thought this box looked great when I saw the spoilers for it, but now I’m not so sure. I probably would have bought it if the tinted moisturizer was in the Beige shade instead of Nude, and the self-tanning concentrate is just not something I ever need as someone who has naturally tan skin and tans even more (and very easily) in summertime. The thing I want most in this box is the Oscar Blandi since I’ve been running on travel sized dry shampoos for ages, but I also know that Klorane is my favorite dry shampoo, so if I’m going to take the plunge for a full size, it’ll be that one. Does anyone have an opinion between Klorane and Oscar Blandi?

    • Yes I have an opinion… Night and day and Oscar Blandi wins! It works extremely well and has none of that white stuff the other brands are famous for. Klorane can’t hold a candle to the Oscar Blandi as far as how well it works. It makes greasy bangs like new again.

    • Personally I like korane better. It takes the oil out of my hair and adds a ton of volume. With Oscar blandi I didn’t really notice a difference.

  17. My post cut off. I was trying to end with I wish dermstore would stick with products that generally universal. Also wanted to add that I’ll probably give the shaving cream to my boyfriend and that I’m fairly happy with this month’s box

  18. I have to agree about the some of the skin tone specific products they send. The self tanners automatically go into the giveaway pile. I don’t think I would use dry shampoo either. Surprisingly the nude cargo tinted moisturizer actually worked for my medium brown complexion. It’s dsrker than you would expect your average ‘nude’ shade to be. But still wish dermatore would stick to products that are generally

    • Thanks for this information! My skin usually is too tan for “nude” products because I’m often just one shade darker, so I’m glad to know your experience with this one.

    • I agree with Carmen, although I’m “Caucasian” usually sub selections are too pale or too pink for me. The cargo tinted moisturizer looks like a perfect match for … although it probably helps that my skin tone is pretty much neutral. It’s also helpful to know that the Oscar Blandi doesn’t leave all that white residue behind otherwise I probably wouldn’t have even tried it. My hair is very dark and no matter how careful I am, that white stuff never blends in properly. Then I really need to wash my hair, LOL!

I’ve been reading about IS Clinical products so I’m excited to try something in their line (I was inches from purchasing something from the brand recently but decided to go with a brand I know instead). I’m sick of all the nail polish and pale lip sticks that I’ve been getting in my subs lately so it’s nice not to get MORE of that stuff.

I’m a big fan of derm store as I seem to write over and over in my posts. They have access to an incredible array of skincare products and although I have yet to find a product in their “house brand” that I love, I’m happy to give them my business. A few weeks ago I placed an online order and the following day I noticed they were offering a really nice sample pack as a gift with purchase. Of course I called to complain and although my purchase had already shipped (lightning fast shipping!) they popped the sample pack into the mail, no questions, no argument, no nothing! Unlike many of my subs, I can actually reach customer service if I need to.

      • So after that rant about how much I like them I realize that my box is missing the sample sized sun screens!

      • I’m a huge fan of dermstore too…Other than sephora or ulta, I go to dermstore. They are also authorized sellers or Lorac, Tarte and lots of high end makeup items – they offer 20 to 30% off randomly..a few weeks ago they had a sitewide flash of 30% off..I ran home on my lunch break to order a few things I wanted. Can’t beat 30% off! lol. I really like it that there are no exclusions, etc when they do that. Some of the regular sales have them but the sitewide ones hit a few times a year. They do have access to many great skin care brands – I subbed to this box. I had to wait for it to get in stock so I “stalked” for it and signed up to be alerted. As soon as it popped in, I signed up as a sub. No doubt in my mind LOL! Though I am sick of that dry shampoo..I have it from many others as well. This was the year for dry shampoos and that brand as well. I’m still cool with it, this box looks good..mine is on the way

  19. Really good value. Interesting mix of products, though I think including a men’s shaving cream is a bit odd. I’ll use it though (or give it to my boyfriend) so I’m OK with it. The nude Cargo is probably too dark for me, but I can probably add something to lighten it up. I have a bunch of foundations that are too dark for me right now, I need to find one of those lightening products for foundations.

  20. I re subbed this month and I am excited. I hope that the nude shade works for me.

  21. I Love this box and think the value is great however I actually have a lot of it already or don’t need it. Anyone interested in buying/swapping all or part of the box please email me- [email protected] thanks!

  22. I think I need to take a break from your site for a while, because I keep subscribing to new boxes! 😉

I love the contents of this box and just added this sub to my list. I can’t wait to try everything! Can you tell me if this sub box ships out on a certain day every month (i.e. Ipsy and Birchbox), or will it ship shortly after my order is placed and at that same time every month after?

    • So far it seems like I get billed on the first of each month and then it ships within a day or two. This month it’s not arriving until the 9th, which I am bummed about because the past two months it got here by the 5th or 6th.

      • Shipping is slower this month because they switched to Newgistics shipping service (also used by Birchbox) and they have always been slow in handling packages (in my experience).

        • They have been using Newgistics. Some months mine will arrive via UPS truck and others it will be handed over to USPS. Obviously when UPS all the way, mine arrives super fast. If USPS mine will usually arrive on the first Sat of the month.

  23. And it’s not just the skin-tone specific items– for me it’s the tanning products, dry shampoos, sea salt sprays, hairsprays, etc. As an African-American, these are just not products I use. I feel like I end up giving 90% of some of my beauty boxes away to my Caucasian friends. I wish the boxes contained more neutral products that anyone could use (I like eye shadows, lotions, fragrances, lipsticks, serums, etc.).

    • Looks like we need to be friends lol. I have so much more fragrance than I will ever need (I can’t wear it often because I’m sensitive to smells) and I don’t bother with eyeshadow 99% of the time :p lipsticks I have wayy too many too and never use.

    • Pretty much any makeup product, including eyeshadows and lipsticks, will only work for a limited number of subscribers. So if they want to please everyone, they should omit makeup altogether. And, as you say, hair products. All of us have different hair types and therefore hair needs. As I’ve learned by reading MSA, even something as simple as shampoo & conditioner can be an issue for people with colored hair.

So we are left with skin-care products. Generic face washes, toners, serums, masks, face creams, sunscreens. Even then, some people will complain because they don’t address their specific face problems (acne, aging skin, rosacea). I just don’t think that in beauty there are that many products that will work for everyone. I like BeautyFix’s approach of sending so many products, that at least some should work for you.

    • Funny… I feel the same way except that I am a super-fair Caucasian. I love tinted moisturizers and BB creams, but I have received only one that is light enough so that I can actually use it…and it’s a Korean one. And most eyeshadows and lip products are too dark. It’s still fun to try the formulas, though!

      • I’m a pale-skinned Caucasian as well and don’t use tanners and most tinted products are too dark for me. I am kind of afraid of bold eyeshadows (boxes seem keen on sending me dark blues) but I will totally do whatever with my lips. I have neutral undertones so I can wear any color of lipstick I want, and I love it. (OK, well not green or blue or some of the other Nyx Wicked Lippies colors, but I think you catch my meaning…)

    • I actually wrote them a bit of a nastygram two days ago regarding this issue. I told them that when they send items that are very specific to a certain color skin they are literally telling us they don’t care about skin colors that aren’t medium white (which is what they usually send out).

They responded with, “thanks for letting us know.”

I hope everyone complains about this. To get a high priced item in a box that only a fraction of people will use is absurd. Unless… maybe they are trying to make us donate it to friends for some sort of misguided publicity?

      • I couldn’t be happier with the subscription. With 11 items in the box, 8 if you don’t count the sunscreen samples, the cost per item is minimal. I don’t get the whining an item or two doesn’t work. Hope these complaints don’t screw this up for those of us this subscription fits perfectly! Seems quite simple to me, if the sub doesn’t work for you……..cancel 😉
