Square Hue Nail Polish Subscription Box Review – May 2015 Yellow

Square Hue Polish in War Hero 1945

Square Hue Polish in Mambo 1948

These shades are both cremes - I love the Square Hue creme formula. I like the colors, but they seem more fall than summer themed to me.

This is a gorgeous ocean-blue shimmer.

Verdict: I think Square Hue is a great polish-only subscription box. I like their formula, and I think they do a great job of getting on-trend shades/finishes in every box. This wasn't my favorite box in terms of colors for the season, but I'm already curious to see what their June colors will be!

What do you think of the May Square Hue box?

I finally was able to try some of the colors (haven’t tried War Hero yet since I do not like yellow polishes) and I love Mambo! Both Mambo and Sorcerer’s Hat are summer colors to me – well I guess all three are to me. The Mambo is this beautiful rich warm brownish red and its a stunning color for its high gloss creme class – its one of my favorites. The formula was great in that it applied smoothly and covered opaquely in 2 coats. It also lasted awhile (I use Zoya’s Anchor and Armor base and top coats – which are becoming my favorites).

The red and blue are summery to me – very Memorial Day and Fourth of July ish, in a good way.

Hi, I am curious if I should pick this over the Julep subscription. Who has better quality nail polish?

I subscribe to both and like them for different reasons. Julep you get a lot more, there is customization, and non-polish product. I love Square Hue because I like the themed curating and surprises, which more often than not are colors I like and they donate to causes that fight sex trafficking, which is a bonus. I think to build up a nice collection of polish, I would prefer Square Hue and I do think the formula is more consistent and better than Julep. But Julep is fun and you get a lot more stuff. With Julep you will really build up your polish collection fast! I am planning to cancel Julep because you cannot put it on hold like you can with Square Hue and I have way too much Julep polish for now, but I will probably subscribe again later (I am grandfathered in at the lower price).

I prefer Square Hue for the formulas, but can’t get enough of Julep make up, add ons, and such. I am such a sucker for their marketing strategie, and I don’t even paint my nails that often…
Square Hue goes on lighter, Julep is more dense and the bold colours generally need a couple of coats or they will get “stripes”.
Either of them seems to last more than 2 days on me, even with the whole oxygen base coat/ top coat. But then again, I still haven’t found a nail polish that does.

Personally, I’d say Square Hues formula kicks Juleps ass by a lot.. but Julep you can customize.

While I have a lot of nail polish in these primary colors, I LOVE the names they’ve given these! Especially Sorcerer’s Hat 1940! That is adorable!

I agree. Those look like fall colors, not summer. The yellow looks like mustard though, which always makes me think of summer. lol
