Quarterly Monthly Discovery Box Review - May 2015 Box

The Quarterly Monthly Discovery Box is a new subscription from Quarterly. Each month Quarterly will reveal the theme and variations you may receive. For the first mailing, the theme is refreshments. There are three different varieties you could receive: coffee, tea or cocktails.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Quarterly Monthly Discovery Box Review - May 2015 Pantone

Seven Cups Tea – Value $15

I received this tea in the first Kevin Rose Quarterly box, and I liked it, so I'm happy to have more. (This is a different blend than the one I received too).

Pantone Coffee Mug – Value $16

This mug was originally in the Nina Garcia NGQ04 Box, and I wanted to swap for more of the color variations, so this is another item that I'm happy to get more of!

Quarterly Monthly Discovery Box Review - May 2015 Square

The Square Bottle - Value $44.95

I've received one of these before from a different subscription box, and these bottles are awesome. Both the top and the bottom twist off for cleaning, it is BPA free, and the square shape is great too. (The only downside is that it isn't insulated).

Verdict: This is an interesting box. The value is good for a Quarterly box, and the curation is pretty good. I say "pretty good" because it is now clear to me that this box is curated from leftover stock from other Quarterly curator boxes. I would recommend this box if you are looking for a good value, but not if you're concerned about getting duplicates from other Quarterly boxes. (There also is no letter or note with this box, so I'm assuming there will be a lot of variation with these boxes).

What do you think of the Quarterly Monthly Discovery Box? What did you get in your box?

I just received my first monthly quarterly box. It was terrible. I wrote to customer service but I just feel so taken by spending so much money for boxes with terrible values. (I got a bunch plastic kitchen things I one can find at a discount store for about $20.) what a disappointment.

I just got a box of cheap crap that doesn’t come close to the value of what ai paid for it. A pack of two pan scrapers, a plastic tube to peel garlic, a small plastic vegetable spiral slicer, and a rubber placemat or cutting surface. Everything is so “as seen on tv” crap that I could get at a discount store for $20. I feel scammed like I did with the latest Oui Please annual sub I got. Grr.

I just received ARI04. I love it. ***********************************spoilers***************************** The thrive lifetime membership came with a $25 gift card, the bath salts are beautiful and would make a really nice gift. The notebook seems like a promotional one to go along with with full box of rest well. The Mala is really pretty and feminine. I’m very happy.

This is a super disapointing box, they should have been upfront about it being a box of old stock. I do still like some quarterly boxes though. Mizzfit is still a favorite of mine, and I like Dave Asprey’s box. I’m excited for my ariana huffington box to arrive today.

I got the tea themed box – box of iced tea, tea diffuser, wooden spoons, and a carafe. No info card 🙁 I cancelled too.

I like the Bianca Jade boxes. There are also a few $100 fitness boxes that look good. If they offer this box with a health/fitness theme, I will buy it. I am not willing to gamble $100 on a fitness theme, but for this price it would be worth it.

I received the Nina Garcia Pantone mug, an aeropress coffee maker and a 5 Minute Journal. I have all the items from previous boxes. So disappointing. If they had mentioned in the description the items were from previous boxes I wouldn’t have been upset. Since they didn’t, and said they were unique and hand-selected items I feel totally misled and ripped off. I cancelled. And I’m considering canceling my other boxes. It feels like they’re going the way of Fancy Boxes. I really don’t think there’s anything wrong with sending items from other boxes as long as you’re clear about it. This was a clear deception.

Ellen

Erin, can I buy your box from you?

Seems like they just need to sell off their old product and go away. Aside from the MSA box, EVERY one has been a HUGE disappointment. Worst sub box out there!

Cristina

I agree with you! Every review I see for Quarterly has not been very good. They should just stop curating if all they’re going to do is mislead people into thinking they will get new products when it’s just leftovers…

Mailbox Junkie

I think I would be tempted to sign up if they advertised that it was leftover stock from these particular curators like Nina Garcia or MSA and they advertised the number of items or a retail value. hmm on second thought, nope not tempted.

Does anyone else think that $45 for a square shaped water bottle seems really high?

Reply ButtonReply

AnnD

Absolutely!! All of these prices seem over-inflated to me!

I didn’t sign up for the first box because the theme did not appeal to me. I may be persuaded to sign up for a future box if the theme is beauty, skincare, or haircare.

The only box I am signed up for right now is Jeremy Lin. There needs to be good spoilers to sign up for other boxes. I did read that Arianna Huffingon’s box is coming to an end. I am disappointing about that because it seems I love every other box.

Where did you read that about Ariana Huffingtons box?

PA Anna

Steph – I wish I remember. It was posted somewhere that ARI05 will be the last box. I hope it will be a good one. I’ll subscribe if it has a good spoiler.

Jill

I got the square water bottle from a Best of Quarterly box from December 2013.

Yes, I received the cup from Nina’s box, tea that I had received before, the blanket from the My Subscription Addiction box and a water bottle. I wrote Quarterly an email regarding my disappointment and told them they should call it “box-made-of-previous-boxes box.” They gave me a $10 credit and I canceled the subscription.

Hey, Shannon– are you interested in selling your box? I can be reached at daphnemarrable @ hotmail.com

What on Earth does a blanket have to do with refreshments?? O.o

The mug is the leftover from Nina Garcia box. Lol. I can’t believe I guessed they will be sending everything that’s left when Liz first reported this box is coming . Quarterly has once again proved its a business minded brand that doesn’t care about us or our money.

I got the party forks from the chef lido box, sphere ice molds from another box and bitters. Since I don’t drink much it is all going up for swap and I have cancelled.

Jennifer

I got the same mug, hot chocolate (in spring, OY) and out of date marshmallows. I canceled.

Sara

Wow I’m sorry for $40 I could buy better/more things for my money. I expect a lot more from Quarterly, but they never seem to deliver for me.

Reply ButtonReply

Denise

Same here. I’ve cancelled all of my Quarterly subs. They send out junk and the value just isn’t there. I grew tired of the constant disappointment.
