Kevin Rose is one of the newest Quarterly curators, and this review is of his first box. Here's his quick bio on Quarterly:
Kevin Rose is an entrepreneur, General Partner at Google Ventures, and board member at the Tony Hawk Foundation. Previously Kevin founded Digg, Revision3, Milk, and hosted the TechTV television show, "The Screen Savers".
FYI - this is his one-time purchase holiday box, so I'm not sure if this will be a continuing subscription.
Quarterly sent us this box for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).
The Subscription Box: Kevin Rose Quarterly Box
The Cost: $100 quarter.
The Products: Tech gear, accessories and other finds.
Ships to: US and Worldwide. (Additional shipping costs for International subscribers).
Each Quarterly box comes with a letter from the curator detailing the items included. For his letter, Kevin made a video -
Nude Audio M Speaker - Value $70
I love the design of this bluetooth speaker, and the audio quality is really great too. (In his video Kevin explains that this is his go-to audio travel accessory.)
Jawbone Up Move - Value $50
I had one of the original Jawbone wristbands when they first came out, and I liked it but it eventually stopped working. That was a few years ago, so I'm assuming this brand new version will work well!
C-Slide Webcam Cover - Value $6
This is officially replacing the washi tape cover I currently have over my webcam!
Field Notes Graph Paper Cherry Wood Memo Books - Value $10
These Field Notes are pocket sized, and I like the wood grain covers.
MakeSpace is a storage solution that is nationwide. (I was surprised to find that out - I expected it would only be for major cities). You get 4 boxes to store for $25 a month. You have to pay for a 3-month minimum, and at 3-months the cost to get your boxes shipped back to you is $18 a box, so keep that in mind if you are planning to use the offer.
AM Labs Mist Screen Cleaner - Value $13
Toddy Gear Smart Cloth - Value $10
This Mist Screen Cleaner is great - it is a cleaning mist and the bottle itself is wrapped in a mirco-fiber cloth. I've used it on my laptop and iPhone/Ipad - it works really well.
I thought it was a little weird to get two screen cleaning items in one box, but I suppose they do have slightly different purposes. The Toddy Gear Smart Cloth works great too.
Seven Cups Tea - Value $15
I'm a big tea drinker, so I love discovering new brands through subscription boxes. Seven Cups focuses on quality tea with transparent sourcing. The letter attached to the tea bag also explains that Kevin went on a trip with the Seven Cups team to China to see the sourcing first hand.
Verdict: This box has a value of about $174 (not counting the MakeSpace gift code value since you have to spend money to use it). I think the value is really good, and it's clear from watching his video and reading the Amazon reviews of the items Kevin selected that these are all truly quality items. My husband is more picky about tech gear than I am, and he was impressed with this box too!
