GlobeIn Artisan Gift Box Subscription Review – May 2015 Info

The box comes with a fold out card including a letter from the GlobeIn team and backgrounds on each of the makers featured in the box. The theme this month is Bake!

GlobeIn Artisan Gift Box Subscription Review – May 2015 Sugar

Alter Ego Organic Cane Sugar - Value $9.50

This cane sure is organic, fair trade, and I love the vanilla/caramel notes. (Yes - I sampled it straight out of the bag!)

Kelapo Coconut Oil (3 packets) - Value $2?

Another organic and fair trade item! I use coconut oil for cooking frequently, so these will go to use soon!

GlobeIn Artisan Gift Box Subscription Review – May 2015 Brownies

Better World Brownie Mix - Value $6.75

Big Dipper Wax Works Birthday Candles - Value $5

GlobeIn recommends making these brownies with the coconut oil included. I can't enjoy these since they contain gluten, but it might make for a good Mother's Day baked treat!

And I love Big Dipper Wax Works - I didn't even realized they made birthday candles! (They are 100% beeswax)

GlobeIn Artisan Gift Box Subscription Review – May 2015 Towels

2 Certified Organic Cotton & Jute Vintage Dish Cloths by Toockies - Value $10

These are handmade in India, and support giving women a living wage. They work for cleaning and scrubing, and I think they would also work great for pot holders or trivets.

GlobeIn Artisan Gift Box Subscription Review – May 2015 Basket

Palm Leaf Basket – Value $12

Each box comes with some of the contents packaged in a palm leaf basket. (I think I get a different color each month – they’re great for storage).

Verdict: I think GlobeIn has been doing a great job of putting together themed boxes that are fun and also useful. I'll use everything in the box, and the fair trade aspect of this subscription is wonderful. The retail value of this box is about $45, and I think that's good for the cost and the makers it supports.

What do you think of the May GlobeIn box?

Grr….I was going to get this sub, but went on vacation and forgot in the whirlwind of getting ready. I’ve been looking at this sub all year, and finally decided to sign up. After seeing this month’s box, which was rather uninteresting for me, I went back and looked at past months. Now, I recall why I was on the fence: it seems like they have been increasing the amount of food items. While I don’t mind one, maybe two, it seems that this is becoming more of a food box. Those are great, just not what I was wanting from this particular sub. Again, one, maybe two items in line with the curation and idea behind this box, particularly if they are unique or in some way different than what I can get locally. While these items do seem to stay within the Bake theme for the month, for me, it isn’t for me. I say that now, but I really was interested in this sub, so give me a few minutes longer to waffle, and who knows….

I caved, and signed up. My first box, May’s, came today. While I still think, for my taste, this was not my favorite month, I have absolutely no regrets and can’t wait to see what future months will have.

The brownie mix and the palm leaf basket were smaller than I expected, which works out well for me. Chocolate is my kriptonite, and the basket is the perfect size for storage or display without taking over the space, if you know what I mean.

It shipped USPS Priority and arrived very quickly, definitely a plus! And the concept behind this box is appealing to me, as I can feel good while getting great stuff. Provided that food itself is not the primary focus of the box, but more a welcome item or two, I can see myself with this one for a long time.

Waiting to receive my first box this month, and I’m kinda bummed after seeing the contents here. I was hoping for more artisan items and not just a few uninteresting food items and some candles. These items don’t really interest me at all. I may give it one more month, but I’m not sure whether I’ll continue with my subscription.

I’m really interested in this sub because of the idea (getting handmade things from around the world) but I’m not going to subscribe until I see what next month’s looks like. I want more artisan items and less food items.

Maybe its just me, yet I liked these boxes a lot better when they did not have food items in it, and had interesting artsy items.

I agree. I have one more month left on my subscription, and I’ll wait to see before deciding whether to renew.
