Ipsy Review – March 2015

Ipsy Review - March 2015 Package

Ipsy is a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Each month you get full size or deluxe-sized products, plus a cute makeup bag. I think it’s one of the best value beauty subscriptions and a great way to build out your makeup collection on the cheap!

(FYI – Just like Birchbox, Ipsy sends out many different variations of their bag each month – so my review is just one of the bag variations you might receive!)

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Ipsy Review - March 2015 Items

The Subscription Box: Ipsy

The Cost: $10 a month (free shipping)

The Products: Full size and samples of makeup and beauty products. (Plus a makeup bag!)

Ships to: US and Canada

Delivered via: USPS

Check out all of my Ipsy reviews and the Beauty Subscription Box Directory!

Visit the Ipsy Swap Page to swap for any of the items you see in this review!

Ipsy Review - March 2015 Skyn

Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels (2 sets) - Value $7.50

These are free of parabens, phthalates, sulfates, synthetic fragrance, synthetic dye, etc. I love the ingredients, and all the reviews I've seen for these indicate they are very refreshing, so I'm excited to give them a try!

Ipsy Review - March 2015 NYX

NYX Butter Lipstick in BLS17 - FULL SIZE! Value $6

I believe all subscribers get a NYX Butter Lipstick this month. This is one of my favorite shades ever - it's a great neutral with a hint of pink/mauve.

Ipsy Review - March 2015 Pixi

Pixi by Petra Eye Shadows in Apricot Glow - Value $4

I like the Pixi brand, and I think these are both very flattering shades great for every day wear. They are highly pigmented, and the shades applied more matte than I was expecting.

Ipsy Review - March 2015 Serum

Equitance Brightening Serum + Spot Corrector - .2 oz Value $25

This serum is 1/5 the size of the full-size version and it is supposed to "zero in on the appearance of hyperpigmentation and dark discoloration." Ideally I prefer my serums to be free of synthetic fragrance and parabens, so this might not be for me.

Ipsy Review - March 2015 Concealer

Evelyn Iona Concealer - Value $9? (The size isn't labeled, so I'm guessing it is half the size of the full-size version)

I'm so excited I received this item in my bag! Evelyn Iona is a new-to-me organic beauty/makeup brand, and I was hoping for this concealer since I saw it as a March spoiler. I like the coverage of the formula, and this shade works well for my skin tone so I guess I lucked out twice!

Verdict: My Ipsy bag this month has a value of a little over $50. I think the value is great, the makeup bag is cute, and I'm happy with the mix of makeup and skincare items.

What do you think of Ipsy this month? Which items did you receive?

Love ipsy! Worth $10! Love trying trying new products. And if you dont want it you can give it or trade with someone! 😀

Id like to point out that lots of the ipsy bag contents can be found at Target. Thats why I dont subscribe. Im looking for a box with at least Ulta quality items and not just one surrounded by items from Target.

I loved my bag! I got the under eye patches, the concealer, a Milani nail polish in “peri-wink”, acure moisturizer, and that same share of NYX lipstick!

Asha

I’ll have to try that highlighter; I didn’t really know what it was supposed to be used for but so many people love it that I did a bit of research.

I thought the NYX lip butter was a little grainy.

I ended up canceling my subscription after receiving my bag. I got a concealer about 4 shades too dark for me (it’s medium and I’m fair) and I redeemed my points for a Bare Minerals lipstick that I was assured would be a watermelon color by their customer service rep. It’s bright orange! Ugh. Goodbye, Ipsy!

I was very happy with my Ipsy bag this month! All these sub boxes have lead me to hoarding so I’ve had to decide which ones are really worthwhile. Ipsy is a favorite of mine for sure. I too subscribed to Luxor Box. If it’s as good as it claims to be I think I’ll be content with just the two beauty subscriptions. Maybe a Boxycharm here and there on the good months. My hubby should be happy too

Wow, I was going to cancel last month but didn’t get my bonus item. So I got it this month with one of the better bags I’ve gotten! Darn! I just have too many samples and need to cancel…soon…

Oh, and why do they do themes?? It seems like the physical bags are themed, but the products inside have nothing to do with the theme. I was excited for the Glitter month, but nothing in my bag was sparkly. In this Floral bag, I got one Pur-lisse item with a flower design on it, but nothing “floral”. Seems strange.

I had ipsy a while ago, canceled. Then went online saw resigning up was easy and immediate ( no 3 month wait list ) and canceling looks easier to. – Seems like ipsy has changed some things in the past year since I subbed. Decided to sub again – Hope the April bag will be a nicer bag. The March bag I don’t like.

Leah

I don’t like the April bag at all. I was on the waiting list until they took me off. I wanted the March bag but got the April bag instead. They sent me an email about the location of my April bag. However, it was wayyy too late because I got the bag before I got the information. I’m thinking about unsubscribing from Ipsy and trying Birchbox.

I’ve been on ipsy for about 7 months and this is the best one so far!!! Loved everything! All my items are different from Liz’s though 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Melk

I’m still on the wait list! I really want to start getting my glam bag. Everything looks amazing.

Miss j

I’ve been on the waitlist since beginning of January and I just emailed them asking to cancel my spot since in the process of waiting I’ve signed up for too many other subs. Lol! Already have a stockpile;)
Anyways, they emailed me right back that I was slotted to receive April’s bag if I didn’t want to cancel.
So that might be the current wait time if that helps;)

This month I’m celebrating my 1 yr. anniversary of my Ipsy subscription with the best Ipsy bag yet. I love it!!!

I received the purlisse face wash, nyx lipstick in pops ( same shade as Liz), cool way hair smoothing oil, and the pixi eye duo. I am looking to trade for the acure mosturizer or Lona concealer . I never wear lipstick so I am open to many things, I just don’t want it going to waste !

Did anyone else notice that they have appeared to have changed the ipsy points system? You used to be able to just review, and now it seems like the only way to earn points is to share something on facebook or twitter… guess I’m done getting points!

Reply ButtonReply

Kathy S

I changed the ipsy updates on Facebook so they can only be viewed by me and I still get the points.

Reply ButtonReply

Alisa

You still get the same 10 points you always have for reviewing items. What they have added though as the last step is a writen review with the option to share to fb, on each review you have the choice not to publicly share. If you do choose to share on fb you get an additional 5 points per review you share, bring point to 15 per item.

FYI Peeps…Luxor Box is open for purchase!! HOLLA!!!! I’m hoping it is an awesome box!!

Emily

I know! I just bought one (Luxor Box)–I’m surprised there isn’t an announce post on here! Here’s to hoping it’s $95 for stuff I love!!…;)

exactly!! It sounds promising….

I loved my Ipsy bag this month, too. I got the eye masks, the lip butter, a double ended eye shadow brush, the pixie shadow and a hair oil. The lip butter was concerning because it looks bright purple but it goes on in a beautiful fuchsia shade & has quickly become my favorite thing ever. The eye shadow brush I got is amazing also! I loved this bag.

Stephanie T.

Oh, I got the same bag as you! I really like the bag this month. I love the purple lipstick and eyeshadow brush! The lipstick looks great with my green eyes, and the hair oil smells great. My eyeshadow was missing, but it was super easy to get a replacement mailed.

Katie Sparks

I was really happy with my bag this month. You’re right about the eyeshadow, it’s a lot more matte than I expected but I love that. It’s got just enough shimmer and it’s the perfect neutral shade!

Reply ButtonReply

Jessi

I got three out of the five items you got! I also received the NYX butter lip in the “pops” color. I wasn’t thrilled at first because I typically don’t care for “nudes” BUT I was highly surprised at how great the color was and your right it had just a hint of a mauvey pink tint to it so now I’m in love and it’ll be my go to for a natural look! And I love how smooth it goes on! I also got the pixi eyeshadow and love the colors-they are perfect for all occasions and really make my eyes pop! I tried the under eye cooling pads and I really enjoyed the coolness and felt refreshed- I did notice a bit of a difference of bags as well!

My most favorite item in my bag this month was the Chella ivory lace highlight! Omg it’s seriously amazing! I also got a day cream which I haven’t tried yet but I love trying new face creams since I haven’t found “the one” quite yet!

Anyone have an idea how long the wait list lasts? I refuse to spam for them but I’ve been waiting since January.

Reply ButtonReply

asagaobalcony

All you have to do is email them and ask them to cancel you and delete your information, stating that you don’t want them to have your personal and credit card information in their system since you aren’t an actual customer. Adding that you can’t promote a company’s products when you haven’t received anything yet doesn’t hurt. You’ll be off the wait list within a day. I did the above immediately after signing up – claiming that it was deceitful that they didn’t say there was a wait list until after they had my information – and I was off the list within the hour.

Reply ButtonReply

Bish

Thank you for the suggestion. I really hate when I have to contact customer service, but after hearing one person waited 5 months I decided to try it. I heard back within hours even though they said it might take longer than 48 hours. The rep told me I was scheduled to be taken off for April already but she went ahead and bumped me right away. Whether or not that was true, I don’t know. I think it had more to do with me saying that there are many other beauty subscriptions I could try without waiting. Either way I was pleased with the fast service and am excited to get my first bag next month.

Lady

I refused to do it too but now I regret it… it took me about five months to receive my first bag. I don’t know if thats the standard time or if it was just me.

Reply ButtonReply

Bish

Right now there are 4 steps to get off the wait list, step one was to post on your wall and I was ok with that because I can make it private. Step two however was to send it to 10 facebook friends, that’s what did it in for me. What are steps 3 and 4, give Ipsy your first born child and take a blood oath…I already told you I want to give you my monies, just send me a bag already! 🙁

Sarah

You can set your settings so that only you see the Ipsy posts on Facebook, and you can send the email to your own email. At least that’s what worked for me. I also was not going give them free advertising. 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Ashley

I set all my Ipsy Facebook posts to “Only Me”, too. I’m not spamming everybody’s timelines or giving Ipsy free advertising. Send me great stuff and I’ll get the word out, no doubt about that! lol

Katiemama6x

It took me just under 2 months to get off the list without having to share. This was over 18 months ago though. I did read comments somewhere that the person said they had to like or follow some videos on YouTube instead of having to share the link with friends. Maybe that is an option?

Reply ButtonReply

Megan

I’ve been waiting since February, and I also refuse to spam for them! They wanted me to message 10 of my Facebook friends. Ridiculous. I’m thinking of continuing my Birchbox gift subscription instead.

Reply ButtonReply

Diana

I got my first Ipsy bag this month and was totally disappointed. I put everything up on the Swap site. For something that’s supposed to be relatively personalized, it’s like they didn’t look at the survey I did once. 🙁

Reply ButtonReply

Sara

That’s been nearly my whole experience with Ipsy, it’s like the blindfold themselves and pick samples. I rarely get anything I like or love, I redid my quiz twice to get a little bit better bags, but this month I swapped nearly everything except 1 item.

Reply ButtonReply

Diana

I changed up my profile to even more minimalistic stuff (I rarely wear lots of makeup), so if they don’t get it right in April, it’ll be an easy cancellation for me.

Katiemama6x

Those comments about the bag cracked me up but I don’t care if my mail lady wonders what’s in those bags because I LOVE those mailers. I reuse them too. Very sturdy. My bag contained:
1. Pür-lisse lotus lupine 5 cleanser
2. NYX lip butter lipstick in same color as Liz received
3. Marsk gray shadow in fifty shades
4. Cool-way glow hair oil treatment
5. Chella highlighter
Happy with this bag for price. Last month was a bit of a dud for me personally.

Wish I had gotten the eye gels!

Reply ButtonReply

Leslie

I received:

NYX Butter Lipstick in Pops
Evelyn Iona Concealer like the one Liz received
Dr. Brandt Pores No More Anti-Aging Mattifying Lotion
Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Creme Oil
Marsk mineral eye shadow in Fifty Shades (grey).

I love every item. The eye shadow is super pigmented and doesn’t crease and the Sexy Hair Oil made my hair soft and not greasy. It is meant to be used before a blow out but I air dry my hair and it still worked great. I love every item.

Amanda

Omg I seriously thought the eye shadows were bronzer!! Crap lol it does look really good though. But I’ll try them as eyeshadow too lol

Reply ButtonReply

asagaobalcony

So did I! I thought it was a highlighter/bronzer set until I saw it on the review page on the Ipsy site.

This was my first ever ipsy bag! I was so excited. I’ve always been with Birchbox as well. I’m obsessed with these makeup subscriptions! I loved the bag, it was perfect for the beginning of spring! I received:
Nyx lip butter- The color was gorgeous! I love it!
Pur~lisse makeup remover- I was so excited to try this, it’s awesome! It works great!
Pixi eye-shadow quad- I actually really liked this as welk, loved the colors!
Crown double ended concealer brush- I was really happy to get this, I could use make-up brushes!
LeeAnni Eco. Toner serum- well it wasn’t my favorite item but it was nice to be able to try it. I had never heard of this brand.
I will definitely keep the subscription! I also love the pink msilers, they’re so pretty! Sorry for this being so long!
