Aboxalypse Subscription Box Review - $10 Box March 2015 Box

Aboxalypse is a custom geeky subscription box. My husband loves trying out new geeky subscription boxes, so we wanted to give this one a try, but I wouldn't recommend this one - at least not yet.

We ordered both a $10 and $50 box at the same time, and have had issues getting responses from their customer care on when our other box will ship. Looking at their Facebook page, it seems like we're not the only customers having issues.

To give a little background on how this box works, you are able to pick: the type of themes you want for your box (for example: The Walking Dead, Marvel), and how much you want to spend (anywhere from $10 to $50).

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Subscription Box: Aboxalypse

The Cost: Starts at $10 with $5 shipping (you can pick the amount you want to spend on the box from $10 to $300).

The Products: Products selected based on your theme preferences and box price.

Aboxalypse Subscription Box Review - $10 Box March 2015 Thor

Marvel Thor Keychain - Value $6

This is a really well-made keychain, and my husband loves Thor, so that's a win. The only downside with really well-made keychain is that it is heavy, and that's not necessarily a good thing for a keychain.

Aboxalypse Subscription Box Review - $10 Box March 2015 POP

POP Vinyl Well Walker - Value $9

This would be a perfect POP for my husband (we love The Walking Dead and he collects the POP Vinyls), but I believe he already has this one. So it will be swapped or gifted!

Spiderman Fighter Pods (2) - Value $5 total

Here is a closer look at the figures:

Verdict: This box has a value of about $20 - exactly double the $10 cost as promised. Since we had to pay $5 shipping, that takes away a little from the "double the value," but it still seems to be a good value for the box. That being said, I'm still wary about the customer service this subscription provides, and I wish they shipped boxes consistently, so I can't recommend it yet.

Have you tried Aboxalype? What has your experience with this company been like?

(Aboxolypse) I have been informed that this company have closed all there sights and have possibly scammed everyone… If you ordered anything that hasn’t arrived you are being advised to take up a claim with pay pal in order to recieve a refund…

I tried them with a $15 box. Out of my 5 themes, they used two: Marvel and Game of Thrones. I got 4 items and three of them were Iron Man themed. Which I don’t mind, but it would have been nice to see something else Marvel themed. I got an Iron Man earphone pluggy, which is basically a two inch or so Iron Man figure that plugs into an earphone hole to plug it up. The figure is supposed to light up and the package makes it seem like there were batteries with it, but mine didn’t have batteries and I don’t have a screwdriver small enough to crack into it and see if there are batteries already inside. I also got two Micro Miggs figures, both Iron Man theme. The bottom of the figures says 2012, so I figure they’re old. The last item was a Daenarys Targaryen Funko Pop keychain, which was sadly the best item from the whole box. Being generous, I’d say the items exactly equal $30, which is double the price of what I paid. But I really wouldn’t recommend Aboxalypse to anyone. Maybe it’s because I was expecting at least one bigger item (all of mine were two inches tall or less), but I was just completely disappointed.

As others have said, there are several unboxer/reviewers out there who have been having issues. I was really interested, but not anymore unless there is at some point clear evidence that they have fixed all of their issues. If one wants a custom box like this, J&K Stuff have been doing something very similar for some time and I have noticed a number of good reviews. I haven’t tried them, but have been thinking about trying out one of their boxes. At least they are happy to answer questions in a reasonible amount of time and are clear about the fact that their custom boxes take a number of weeks to put together. Would love to know if anyone reading has actually tried one of their boxes.

They haven’t post on Facebook since Feb, what does that mean?

I’m having issues with them as well. They told me that my themes were too specific at first so I added another 5 themes and was told they were still too specific. I then got an email asking me to add some themes from a certain list though I didn’t want any of them. I am thinking that they went to Entertainment Earth and did their reseller option and got tons of things from what they thought would be the most popular and then when your themes don’t fit with yours they try and get you to switch to them.

When I was told my first set of themes were too specific I could see it for some of them, but I had themes like Giant Mech, Harry Potter, and Godzilla which all have 100s of items they could have used.

If I had known what I know now I wouldn’t have ordered, but now I have to wait in limbo until either A) finally get the notice it will ship(not guaranteed) B) Switch to themes I don’t want in order to just get the box I.E. Walking Dead, Generic Marvel or DC or C) Initiate a dispute with the charge which is getting closer and closer to the deadline for my bank.

Have you heard anything on your $50 box. Their customer service and shipping time is lacking to say the least. I love the premise though. I ordered my $50 box the same day you did and I am still waiting……I would say patiently but that would be a lie… patience went out the door at the month mark when I emailed to check status of my order. Gave them my order number and the response I got was “when did you order your box?” I told them and I got an email back saying “ahh yes I see it now. It is going well, it’s just being finalized with items to make it perfect to your themes! 🙂 We will keep you updated about shipping etc soon!”
This email led me to believe my box would be shipping soon or they would at least keep me updated. 2 and 1/2 weeks went by and I sent another inquiry…I never got a response to that email. I did eventually get a invoice to pay for my shipping (that comes after they build your perfect box)….so hopefully I am in the home stretch and will receive this box soon and HOPEFULLY it will all have been worth the wait!!!

Looking at this review and others, this honestly seems like the best geek-type box I’ve seen. I hope they are just having growing pains.

What is your theme(s)? Did the box stick to them? I clicked on the website out of curiosity and the boxes are out of stock.

The concept is interesting. I’ll keep it in the back of my mind in case all the issues are resolved.

I asked my husband and he couldn’t remember what he picked. (It took that long for this one to ship!) I’m guessing he picked various Marvel themes though. The box is definitely all from brands/characters he likes.
