Wantable Makeup Subscription Box Review – February 2015 box

Wantable is a monthly subscription service that has 3 different plans: Makeup, Accessories, and Intimates. (Plus a styling service for Fitness clothing similar to Stitch Fix in the try-then-buy model) It’s one of the pricier subscriptions ($36 a month), but everything they send is full size, and they fully customize the boxes based on your preferences.

Wantable sent me this makeup box at no cost to review.  (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Wantable Makeup Subscription Box Review – February 2015 Preferences

You get to take a very detailed survey of what items you love, like and dislike. You won’t receive anything in your dislike list.

I used to get very specific with this list, but I’ve found that I have better luck at high-value boxes when fewer things are on my dislike list.

Wantable Makeup Subscription Box Review – February 2015 Info

And here’s my order summary.

Wantable Makeup Subscription Box Review – February 2015 Blush

Three Custom Color Creme to Powder Blush in Rebecca's Favorite Blush - Value $22.50

Bodyography Expressions Eyeshadow in Seafoam - Value $17

This blush is cream in the pot and designed to have a powder-like finish. I was expecting it to be highly pigmented, but it's actually a pretty soft pink, you'd have to apply a lot to get the color seen in the picture. It also has a subtle shine which I like.

This eyeshadow is a pressed powder with a good amount of pigment. I wasn't too crazy about the seafoam color at first, but it blends well, and has an iridescent quality about it that looks nice as a highlighter.

Wantable Makeup Subscription Box Review – February 2015 Bodyography

Bodyography OxyPlex Loose Complexion Powder in Porcelain - Value $24

This porcelain shade of this powder is borderline too light for me, but it still works. The finish is light-to-medium coverage, so that helps with getting the color to match my skin tone.

Wantable Makeup Subscription Box Review – February 2015 Brow

Billion Dollar Brows Brow Duo Pencil - Value $18

This pencil is a highlighter and concealer combo. The concealer shade is perfect for my skin tone, and the highlighter is a very pigmented highlighter so I have to use it very sparingly. (I initially tried just drawing a highlighter line below my brow planning on blending it in, and ended up with what can best be described as ghost brows).

Verdict: This was a good Wantable Makeup box for me - I'll use everything. The value is about $81 - more than double the cost. One thing I like about Wantable Makeup is that I think they are one of the only beauty boxes that send full-size foundation products custom to your skin tone.

What do you think of Wantable Makeup? Are you happy with the makeup you've received?

I just received my first box and I was very underwhelmed. I cancelled immediately. The cost is so much more than Glossybox and Boxycharm and just not worth it for me. I’m getting rid of everything in it except the mascara. They sent me a bright coral nail polish and top coat. I hate coral anything. A liquid lip/cheek stain that I would never wear. I didn’t even try it. A brow mascara that I will try but I think it’s the wrong shade. And a mascara. Sure I’ll use the mascara but I already subscribe to Glossybox, Boxycharm, Ipsy and & Sephora. I’ll never have to buy another mascara for the rest of my life lol. So just A mascara doesn’t make the box worth the extra money for me. If they lowered the price by $10 a month, I might try it again.

The link is not applying the coupon for me! It does in the initial opening of the website but then forgets about it in the checkout! Help?

I’ll let them know. Sorry about this.

I have subscribed to this box for over a year. Initially I was not impressed, but as I have tweaked my profile the box contents became a better match. Surprisingly, they read what I write in the product reviews and make changes accordingly.

In the beginning I swapped almost everything in the box. Lately I have swapped very few products — four items in the last five months. Now it is my favorite box.

I got my first box and was so excited to open it. Then the disappointment. Nail polish an 11 yr old would find gaudy. Mineral foundation more in line with an albino. Cream eyeshadow when I put no cream on my preferences. Now I have to go through hassle of sending it all back. I’ll give them one more month to get it right.

I had decided to skip this month’s Wantable to save some money, but I unskipped a couple of days before the cutoff. No willpower! lol I’m happy I unskipped. In my box was:
– Au Naturale Loose Powder Blusher in Pomegranate ($24). It looks very bright in the sifter jar, but it is beautiful on, with a nice touch of shimmer. Plus, I love the ingredients.
– Liberty Republic Spellbound Nail Lacquer in Catalyst ($14). I recently changed my preferences and took nail polish off my Dislikes list. If this is an indication of the colors and quality I’m going to get, nail polish might go on my Loves list! This is a beautiful deep purple with a light, iridescent purple shimmer. I can’t wait to try it! And Spellbound is 5-Free.
– Bodyography Expressions Eyeshadow in Sleek ($17). It’s a nicely pigmented, slightly shimmery chocolate brown eyeshadow. Can a girl have too much brown eyeshadow?! lol
– Sorme Lip Thick Plumping Lip Gloss in Demure (~$13-$16). This is a really sheer gloss, but there is quite a bit of sparkle to it. I didn’t notice an immediate plumping effect, but it claims to increase lip fullness up to 40% in 30 days (I’m skeptical, lol). It feels very thick in the tube, but does not go on thick at all, and I didn’t find it sticky. It’s a very pretty lip gloss.
Wantable tends to send high quality brands with high quality ingredients, and the value of my Wantable box is always at least double what I pay. It’s one of my favorite subs!

How do you change your preferences? I have looked all over the site.

Log-in, then on the main home page, click MAKEUP, then LET’S GET STARTED. It’ll seem like you’re starting over, but your previous preferences will already be marked. Then just change, or leave the same, whichever items you want. Hope that helps!

I just received an email today from Wantable notifying their return policy has changed. Individual items can now be returned. “By design, our customer service team is in the heart of our office. We did this so everyone could easily ask how our customers (you) are feeling. Combined with feedback from our monthly surveys, we’re able to gather honest opinions to see how we’re doing, and for that we thank you.

One of the most common requests is for simpler returns. You’ve wanted the ability to easily return one or two items that you’re not in love with rather than having to keep or return them all. We’ve implemented a new system that allows you to easily calculate your refund amount whether you want to send back one item or four.”

The rest of the details are in their blog (Normally I wouldn’t have even looked but as you might remember when Quarterly made an announcement like this the devil was in the details!) Here it is not so drastic of a change: http://blog.wantable.com/2015/02/16/wantable-return-policy

This was my first box. 3 items were on my dislike list and the one item was a like. They put nothing in I loved. Customer service is ok but I am not of fan of their return policy. I would love to have this box to my collection but I’m going to cancel. I’ll take my 40$ and go to Sephora a or birchbox.

I got this exact same box, except my blush was Eddie Funkhouser. I got mine for $8 with a promo, and I’m glad that’s all I paid. All of these products can be found on Hautelook, so the “value” is bogus. Also, I couldn’t find that loose powder on any legit websites – only ebay at many different prices. From $5 to $25. Leads me to believe this is an old product.

My friend bought her an $8 box as well. She picked the Accessories box… and it turned out terrible. Cheap looking products, weird styles, and scratched all over.

I’ll never sub to Wantable. $40 for junk!

I received that same green eyeshadow not for me, the pink melon lipstick mentioned that was a very strange shade and believe me I like bright fun shades but no that one. I also received the brow product that you received. The only thing I would have used was the Liquid Liner but that was not enough to keep the box. This was my first returned box and am I am appreciative for the simple return process. I’m just hoping that was just a random miss because I have loved all my boxes

Last month I got some Frankie Rose lengthening mascara that is really nice and a really pretty Cattiva mineral foundation compact, it’s blinged out. This month I got a Bodyography blush in it’s own compact, Bodyography eyeshadow in Sleek which is a pretty brown color. The Frankie Rose lipstick I got is in the color Raven, looks red but goes on kind of pink, it’s beautiful. They keep sending me brow products which I really don’t use, I don’t mind getting them but don’t want a brow product every month. I really want some foundations or BB creams or something.

I received yet another eye shadow brush (third one in as many months from my beauty boxes) Frankie Rose lipstick in the hideous shade of Pink Melon, a cool metallic purple nail lacquer and a Sorme mascara that is probably one of the best mascaras I’ve tried and is the only reason I’m not returning the box.

I got that blush last month, and it is so pretty and lasted all day. This month I got a lip crayon and liquid eyeliner from Lord & Berry, which were both great quality. I also received a rose colored pressed powder blush from Bodyography, which was very nice because it is a compact with a mirror. It also has one of those round applicators, which is kept in a separate compartment under the blush. The last thing I got was a loose eyeshadow which looked grey, but when you apply it, it’s a really pretty iridescent grey and pink color.

Oh, my goodness, I’m glad to hear that blush is not highly pigmented when you put it on. Because that color is SO BRIGHT. (I really have to watch it with blush — I have such fair skin, it doesn’t take much to make me look like a clown.)
