Oprah Circle of Friends Subscription O-List Item Review Box

The Oprah Magazine Circle of Friends Premier subscription comes with perks including a luxury beauty box, a surprise gift, and the opportunity to try and keep products, so I had to sign up!

Here’s a breakdown of the subscription perk options:

Circle of Friends Membership

The first perk I’ve received was the Luxury Beauty Box. And now I am reviewing the O-list surprise item. (I'm still waiting on the opportunity to test and keep products, so I'll write another review when that happens).

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Oprah Circle of Friends Subscription O-List Item Review Items

The Subscription: The Oprah Magazine Circle of Friends Premier Membership

The Cost: $199 a year for the entire program – not just this box

The Products: In addition to a physical + digital magazine subscription, plus a gift subscription to share, if you go with the Premier membership, you also get a luxury beauty box, a surprise gift from the O list, a birthday card from Oprah, and the opportunity to try and keep products.

Ships to: US

Oprah Circle of Friends Subscription O-List Item Review Planner

May Designs 2015 Agenda - Retail Price $22 (On Sale for $12)

May Designs Notes Book - Retail Price $17 (On Sale for $12)

Verdict: I received a May Designs Note Book before in a POPSUGAR box, and I think their notebooks are lovely, but I'm disappointed that these are my O-List item. I'm not sure exactly what I was expecting (truffle oil something...?) but I was thinking subscribers would get a random recent O-List item. Instead it seems like all subscribers will get these items selected for the program. (I could be completely wrong on that assumption - if you've received a different O-List item please let us know!)

As of right now I would not recommend this subscription for the $199 price tag I paid, but I hope that changes with my try-and-keep items. I'll post about those items when they happen.

What do you think of the Oprah Magazine Circle of Friends Premier subscription?

I am still waiting for mine! I have received anything from my subscription except the digital magazine and e-newsletter. Both of which I enjoy but I would like to see some tester roll through my mailbox soon!

I just got my O Circle of Friends” try and review” item and it’s the Burt’s Bees Tips and Toes set which retails for $13. This, along with my special gift (which was Footnanny lavender foot cream) and the Oprah Glossy Box don’t really seem worth the price of the subscription. Definitely wouldn’t have signed up for it if I’d known the values would be so low.

I know from personal experience that magazine editors get a ton of swag– things that are sent to them for free, hoping they will get in the pages of editorial as well as leftovers from shoots that they are allowed to just keep. Based on the varied items that people are getting, it sounds like they are basically clearing out their swag closet. Lame, Oprah…kind of like your new network.

I work in the media business in southern California and I hear there are still issues with her network and the magazine circulation is declining. I subscribed to the magazine for $6 so those “bonus” subscriptions really aren’t worth much at all.

Don’t forget you have to actually request the card. Otherwise you won’t get one

So lame. With all things digital I would have absolutely no use for these 2 items!

I signed up for the $199 membership and I’m totally disappointed. I haven’t even received this O List surprise yet and So far I’ve only received the glossy box holiday item which I swapped all of… The newsletters I receive just remind me of what a sucker I was for signing up in the first place. That’s $200 I could have put towards other boxes for sure! Won’t be doing this again. I’m very surprised at Oprah. Bad bad Oprah. Neiman Marcus box and now Oprah sub… I don’t think I’ll try 3 for 3!!!

I just got my box today. Same items as you got Liz but just with a different design. I can’t even gift this 2015 calendar as my friends/family would think I’m nuts for gifting a planner this far into February. (Well I would t least). Oh well at least I have one $12 item I can use whenever I like…. 🙁

I had to decide on whether or not to comment even after the first post. I signed up April/May last year? Really it’s been so long. When I signed up, you received two tix to the Oprah Life you want event. You had a choice of several locations and I chose one close to home. They said you would find out your seat assignments a couple of weeks before the event. I was excited. I was also very disappointed. I figured in the mean time I’d receive my box of goodies. More disappointment. They were selling the memberships at the event and after speaking to a host, they to,d me to contact Circle of friends and let them know I hadn’t received my WELCOME GIFT. The seat assignment came and the seats were Awful. Free yes, but the event wasn’t close to sold out. I thought those persons who’d jumped on the band wagon would get first dibs on better seats. I mean, Oprah couldn’t look out in the crowd and see all the empty seats near the stage, right? Inside the venue I went up several escalators, my seats were SOOOOO bad I could literally touch the ceiling of the venue. You could play games for a seat upgrade and plays games for a seat upgrade, but I and my guest didn’t win. Seriously the seats were so bad, I couldn’t even see the Jumbotron. I ranted, raved and threatened to leave and complain, when someone gave me better seating. NOT GREAT, but better. So when you received your welcome box, I’d just received my 2nd quarterly O’s favorite item. It was a perfume rollerball by LifeTherapy in escape. 7ml cost $38. http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0378/0229/products/pulse-point-oil-perfume-escape.jpg?v=1412726551

Not sure if the link will work. The only thing that was nice so far were the magazine subscriptions that I gifted to some friends. Even though I could get them for $12 per year. Another $36.

For those that wondered, the event and guests were good. Parking sucked, no great food inside the venue and expensive pricing on the promo items, which were sold at a discount in December.

NO. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOX.

Sorry for the length of post, this finally gave me a chance to vent my frustrations. Excuse any typos…

Glad I did not sign up. How disappointing! It sounds that even those that received something different were not impressed either. Hope your test and keep items are amazing.

I received the same planner and notebook on Saturday. I was so excited when I saw the box in my mailbox. What a let down! It feels more like clearance items/leftovers since it arrived at the end of January. It definitely doesn’t feel like a thoughtful item at all. I’m pretty disappointed and regret buying this membership, and I feel like the value they advertise was incredibly misleading… Still crossing my fingers the products to test and keep are fantastic (but not holding my breath!).

Of course you have to pay taxes on the cars. Just as anything you receive as shift or a prize has taxes on it. Why would you think they shouldn’t pay taxes?

This has been a very interesting and very underdeveloped concept from what I am seeing.

For my “O List” surprise I got a horrendous pair of earrings by John Wind (and there are such pretty things on his website!)… if you look at #omagcircle on Instagram there are a few different things people received for their O List gift…

I received a package today as well – two ultra -modern serving dishes. They are awkward and I will likely swap them. They look like something you’d find in a hipster restaurant.

Interesting – well, at least I’m happy to hear they didn’t send everyone planners! :/

And THIS is exactly why I love your blog Liz. I almost signed up for this because having watched every Favorite Things episode ever made, I had convinced myself that the surprise gift would have at least a $100 value. Wow, was I wrong! I would have been super disappointed to get that box. Hopefully an autographed birthday card from Oprah is worth a lot in your estimation 🙂

E.

So you pay $100 more and you get: a birthday card, this agenda and notebook, and the opportunity to test and keep some mystery products? Those mystery products better be worth $$$$! Honestly, from what I know of marketing and pricing, I doubt they expected to sell many of the Premier ($199) option. Oftentimes companies just add that to make the option they plan on selling ($99) look like a better deal.

I believe those are it 🙁 And I think you only get one keep and try ……which to me again does not justify the cost.
There are no more cars 🙂

Liz-just curious, when did you sign up? I signed up too and am truly kind of bummed about these notebooks you received…how in the world do these qualify as luxury?! Gah, should have waited for your reviews of this sub, but I had faith that Oprah wouldn’t want to dilute the quality of her “brand” by disappointing people after they shelled out a tidy sum….

Liz Cadman

I signed up the day I first posted about this box – October 28th. Hope that helps. 🙁

Notebooks. Your surprise “luxury” items were notebooks. I am floored and quite grateful that you are reviewing this. I would have been really unhappy with this. I hope they make it up to you in truly fabulous test products.

I hope you got this box earlier and just now got around to posting it because otherwise sending a 2015 Agenda this late into the new year is kind of lame. 🙁

Liz Cadman

It shipped January 28th – just checked the shipping label. 🙁

You may have a car in your driveway. Who knows? : )

Sneaky Burrito

Haha, yeah. But remember how all the people who got cars way back when had to pay taxes on them?

Reply ButtonReply

Pilar

Yep! and I bet most of them had to sell those cars, cause I think everyone in the audience that day were Teachers or Single mothers.

Liz Cadman

Haha! 🙂
