New Beauty Test Tube Subscription Box Review – March 2015 Tube

New Beauty Test Tube is a bi-monthly beauty and makeup subscription box. Every other month they send you a tube full of deluxe and full-size beauty samples and you also get a subscription to New Beauty Magazine. It’s a little pricier than other beauty subscriptions, but in general the value is usually incredible. (FYI – this is a different subscription from the QVC New Beauty Test Tube which is no longer shipping).

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

New Beauty Test Tube Subscription Box Review – March 2015 Info

Each New Beauty Test Tube comes with a booklet thoroughly detailing each product included.

New Beauty Test Tube Subscription Box Review – March 2015 Frizz Ease

John Frieda Frizz Ease Beyond Smooth Frizz-Immunity Conditioner - 1.5 oz Value $1

John Frieda Frizz Ease Beyond Smooth Frizz-Immunity Shampoo - 1.5 oz Value $1

John Frieda Frizz Ease Beyond Smooth Frizz-Immunity Primer - .7 oz Value $2

I can always use color-safe shampoo and conditioner for travel, so these will be used, and I'll give the primer a try too.

New Beauty Test Tube Subscription Box Review – March 2015 Lumene

Smileactives Original Pen - FULL SIZE! Value $25

Lumene Bright Now Vitamin C Day Cream SPF 15 - .5 oz Value $6

I received this Smileactives whitening pen in the May 2013 New Beauty Test Tube box as well. I've noticed they changed the packaging of the product, so I'm wondering how old this product is. (This whitening pen is not listed in the booklet, so I'm guessing it is one of the items that will vary for subscribers).

My mom loves Lumene products, (she has sensitive skin, and they work well for her), so this day cream is going straight to her!

New Beauty Test Tube Subscription Box Review – March 2015 Colume

John Frieda Luxurious Volume 7 Day Volume in Shower Treatment - 1 oz Value $2.25

Key West Aloe Gentle Aloe Facial Cleanser - 1 oz Value $2.75

This John Frieda Luxurious Volume line is new to me, and I like the idea of an in-shower volume treatment. (Anything in-shower seems like less maintenance to me). I'm also on a constant quest for more hair volume, so I'll be giving it a try.

This Key West Aloe cleanser smells wonderful, but I'm having difficulty finding ingredients for the product. The sample itself doesn't list the ingredients, and neither does the Birchbox site or Key West Aloe's site. (If you find the ingredients, please let me know!)

New Beauty Test Tube Subscription Box Review – March 2015 Mally

Your Best Friend Mechanical Eye Pencil in Charming Champagne - FULL SIZE! Value $14

Mally High Shine Liquid Lipstick in Mally's Look - FULL SIZE! Value $20

I would describe this eye pencil as an eyeshadow stick. It's very shimmery and it is a lovely highlighting color for me. It blends well, but definitely needs a primer underlayer for staying power.

This Mally Liquid Lipstick isn't listed on the booklet, and is another item that may vary for subscribers. I like Mally products, but have way too many liquid lipsticks and eye shadow pens thanks to New Beauty Test Tube, so this one will be swapped.

New Beauty Test Tube Subscription Box Review – March 2015 TanTowel

Tan Towel Classic 5 Towelettes - Value $13.50

I've used these before - I think the individual towel application is great for travel. They aren't my favorite self-tanner though. (The tarte line works best with my skin tone for a natural looking tan).

(This is another item not listed in the booklet).

Verdict: This box has a retail value of about $87.50. The retail value is good, but as someone who has been subscribing to this box for years, I'm thinking this subscription isn't for me. New Beauty Test Tube includes repeat brands or items often, and I'm more interested in getting to try new products than stocking up on repeats. (This subscription seems to be better suited to new or short-term subscribers. I'm guessing long term subscribers like me are in the minority).

It's also worth mentioning that the items in the booklet that all subscribers will receive add up to about $35. Since I'm not sure what everyone gets as their variable items, the values of this box could vary. I would have liked to see more full-size or deluxe sized items in the group of items everyone will get. And getting 4 items from John Frieda could be great if you love the brand, but pretty frustrating if you don't.

What do you think of the March New Beauty Test Tube box?

Thank you for mentioning Tarte! I was looking for a good self tanner and this was amazing!

I wish there was a way whereby we could decline a box that contained too many unwanted products.

The tanning product does not work AND it smells horrible! My friend and I both tried the product together and reacted to the smell simultaneously! We tried it anyway with no color change to the skin.

I like both the lipstick and eyeshadow. Both feel good going on. They are perfect for the “unmade” look that I sometimes want. No notable smell to either.

I kept the Lumene day cream and Key West facial cleanser. I’ve not tried them yet.

All the rest were given away.

I’ve put my membership on hold while I consider what I want to do.

I have been receiving the Test Tube since the beginning. The first year was amazing and the tube was always chock full of great high end items. It seems as though when they changed the tube package from pink to the Tory Burch Knock off pattern, the products began to slip and the repeats were aplenty.
Not to mention the shipping cost of that darn tube is egregious!
I’d still go buy the magazine as it’s super informative but they need to fire the clowns in charge of the tube!
Bye bye Test Tube!

My eye shadow pencil was empty. Odd. It was sealed too. just a completely clean tube after breaking the seal. I emailed them about it, but have yet to hear back. It has been six days. I cancelled this subscription, but they still billed and shipped this box. Personally, I would never waste $$ on the types of products they keep sending me; drugstore hair products, no less.

Over the holidays, I swear I saw this sub for sale at Costco, magazine and all. With all of the repeat products, this seemed like a great way to just get it only sometimes. Of course, now that I’m actively seeking it out, it’s not there anymore.

Does anyone else remember seeing this at Costco, or was I just in the midsts of a Christmas hallucination?

I received my Test Tube yesterday and got everything listed above except the Smile Actives pen… i did however receive a Tarte Maracuja Oil roll-on and a $40 coupon card towards a Hello Fresh subscription in addition to the other items listed above. I was a subscriber in the past and signed back up for this months tube after a year of not getting them and I have to say I am EXTREMELY disappointed. In the past I received more skincare rather than the overdose of hair products. The travel size shampoo and conditioner used to be the extra sent in a small organza bag where basically all of the other items were listed in the booklet. To top it off, the volume treatment cap was unscrewed, the eyeshadow stick is broken as half the stick was already open inside the lid, and the Moisturizer was unscrewed as well – luckily that had a foil covering on it. Ive already unsubscribed and will turn my luck to other subscription boxes in the hopes that I will be able to try NEW products or products I don’t already know about at the very least. New Beauty clearly does not focus on sending out the latest and greatest products to hit the market anymore.

This was my second month getting this box and I decided to cancel. The lip gloss and eye shadow pencil were both so terrible I threw them away. The lip gloss was sticky, hard to apply with the brush, and a bad color. The eye shadow pencil is only good if you want your eyes or cheeks to have full-on glitter on them. It’s not shimmer, it’s truly flecks of glitter. Also I’m tired of getting so many sample sized shampoos and conditioners from all the boxes I get. I’m also cancelling Beauty Joy.

Cancelling today. It just keeps getting worse. When I started a couple years ago it was the bomb! New samples, many full size and well worth the price. Not anymore.

New Beauty Test Tube was the reason I fell in love w/subscription boxes. It saddens me to cancel, but it’s just not as good as it used to be & I can no longer justify spending almost $40 per box on repeats of products I already have.

Does anyone have info about the QVC test tube??? I feel like I missed one!

Reply ButtonReply

Liz Cadman

I believe the QVC New Beauty Test Tube has been cancelled. 🙁

Reply ButtonReply

Vanessa

Oh no! I loved it! I hope they reconsider!

Mia

I first subscribed through QVC and got tried of receiving only their brands, but it seems to have bled over to the company site also. I received a Mally lip volumizer instead of the smile actives. ARGH, I’m getting a little tired of the same old stuff again and again.

This will be my third beauty test tube. The first two were awesome! I loved the value, and the variety of the first two. However this test tube is extremely disappointing. I wish I could return it! I will cancel after seeing the contents of this test tube and wait for spoilers before I resubscribe. I was really excited to get this box, and I am so disappointed now that I know it’s going to be in it!

Danielle

I got the same as the above but no SmileActives pen! So a far lower value. I do not feel like this sub delivers on the “New” or “Test” aspect of trying things that are new in the market, so I unsubbed after receiving it.

Danielle

I’ve always wanted to like New Beauty Test Tube but based on your reviews I think it looks like they send a lot of brands I’m not interested in. I agree with some of the other commenters, it just doesn’t seem exciting.

Liz… was there a winter QVC test tube? Thanks….

Cindy

I tried this subscription in the past but it was not for me. Too heavily weighted on hair products.

Cay

I got everything shown plus full size Tarte blush in color Flush ($26 value). So I was actually pleased with this one.

Sjws89

This is my second box. I also got the blush. (Mirror was unglued) If it wasn’t for the blush, this box would’ve been a bust. Just ick! Almost the entire box of contents reminded me of the trial size area at Walmart.

Katherine

I also got the Tarte blush and it is my favorite thing in the box. I would have unsubscribe if it hadn’t been there.

Jenny

What!! The Tarte Blush is everything!

Cay

I know!! I would have been super disappointed in my box, but when I pulled out the Tarte blush I was thrilled. It made the whole box for me 🙂 I hope some other ladies are lucky and get it also!

Heidi

I got the exact same thng as Liz. For, me, this box was weighted too heavily on hair items. I cancelled for many of the reasons outlined in Liz’s post.

Sara

I’ve always wanted to try this subscription, but I don’t ever because the boxes are never that exciting. It’s all like tried and true brands. I’m actually pretty tired of seeing John Frieda in subscription boxes. His products have been in Allure beauty boxes a lot. They might be great products for someone, unfortunately do not work well for me. Also a lot of repeats from other beauty boxes too.
