BarkBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – February 2015 Info

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included. This month's box has a Mardi Gras theme!

BarkBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – February 2015 Toys

Delca Jester Ball - Value $7

Harry Barker Mardi Gras Crinkle Mask - Value $10

This Jester Ball is a perfect toy for Buckles - it is plush with a squeaker, and the jester hat pieces are easy for him to bite on to.

He didn't care for this Crinkle Mask as much as I did - it is so cute! It will be going to one of his dog cousins!

BarkBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – February 2015 Crawfish

Aussie Naturals Salmon Quarter Cigar - Value $3

Think! Dog Crawfish Jerky - Value $7

I'm always happy with the treats BarkBox includes in their boxes - they always have high-quality ingredients and are made in the USA. Our dog loves these Crawfish jerky treats, and I'm guessing he'll love this salmon treat when he gets it!

BarkBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – February 2015 Catfish

PetSafe Catfish Po'Boy with Chicken - Value $7

We haven't opened these yet, but considering the first two ingredients are chicken and catfish, I think it is safe to say our pup will love them. (Since they are made with fresh meat, it is recommended that you use them within 3 days after opening or refrigerate them).

Verdict: BarkBox knows how to do a themed box! This is one of my favorite boxes from them yet, and with the exception of the crinkle mask, I think Buckles will love everything too. The value for this box is about $34, and I think that's good for the month-to-month cost ($29), but I recommend signing up for a longer duration up front with the 10% coupon for the best price. (The annual subscription with the ADDICTION coupon code brings the box cost down to $17.10 a month).

What do you think of the February BarkBox? Did you and your dog love the Mardi Gras theme too?

Does the toys always come worth the box or did you select the option to receive toys?

They come with the box. I have a Rat Terrier and an English Shepherd. My Rat Terrier destroys them. The English Shepherd plays with them and treats them like their her babies. I usually receive different toys than Liz because my box is based off a medium dog.

My German shepherd puppy loved this!! she has a blast with the toys and would do anything for those treats c: of course she got the +50 lbs. I would recommend this for dogs who get bored easily.

My big dog just received his first BarkBox today (Large Box – big & bold). It is all very cute & the theme is adorable. However, much of it was too small for my big dog. We recieved a duck jerky stick (he loved it & it was gone in less than 60 seconds), a jester ball (maybe it’s the slightly bigger verision of what Liz’ pup recieved – it’s very cute & it’s the first thing my dog went for), Chicken pot pie snacks (good size bag, but very tiny treats – he inhales 6 in one bite), the catfish po’boy, and a Gulpy H2O To Go water dispenser 10oz size (super tiny!!! It’s not much bigger than my hand – I’m going to have to give it to my brother’s Chihuahua). It would have been an awesome box for a dog less than half my dog’s size. After reading how the medium size dogs received beef femurs and enormous moose, I’m thinking there’s been a mix up with my dog’s box. It looks like BarkBox gets good customer reviews, so I just sent them an email…

Just some suggestions, since I also get the big and bold version and received the same items. The little treats are the perfect size for training (very similar to the size we buy specifically for that). It beats breaking apart larger treats when trying to work on a new trick. As for the water bottle, I thought it was tiny as well–at first. I realized it’s actually a perfect solution for some issues we’ve had in the past where we’ve taken the dog places/outdoor events and only had water bottles. Rather than having to dump it while he laps it up, this is a lightweight bottle I can carry and refill, making it easier for him to get the water. Plus, it’s not as obnoxious for me to have to carry around. Each month, there seems to always be some kind of chew, and the duck stick is one we’ve received a couple times. The one we’ve gotten is maybe 8-10 inches long? Like any of the chews, some are much easier for my dog to work than others. I figure as long as he likes it, I’m not too worried. But we have also received beef tracheas, antler chews, bully sticks, etc, so I’m happy with the variety from month to month.

I also assumed the tiny treats were meant for training. However, they asked me the age of my dog when I registered and a 10 1/2 year dog doesn’t have much need for training treats so I am still a bit disappointed in them. On the upside…she loves her jester ball! 🙂

Sara

I just got the same box for my dog, she’s a boxer mix and this box is very disappointing. She loves chewing stuff and destroys toys. The duck stick will be gone in 2 mins. The catfish po’ boy snack sizes are a joke, my cat would probably love them. For a large dog size box, the treats are sooo tiny. I bought the buy one month get one free, I definitely won’t be renewing. I can go to the local pet store and get better treats.

I got the same things as Wendy for my large dog. I have a 50lb Old English Sheepdog puppy. She absolutely destroys toys, so I’m happy to report that the Jester Ball is showing only minor damage after an hour. lol I don’t mind the size of the Chicken Pot Pie treats, as I’ll be using them for training rewards, and they’re the perfect size for that. The Duck Chew disappeared in 2 minutes once she stopped carrying it around and decided to get down to business. I would have preferred something more substantial. I haven’t opened the Catfish treats, but I’m sure she’ll love them. I agree that the Junior Gulpy is a waste in a large dog box. The 10 oz size is way too small for her, and it’s disappointing because the company makes a 20 oz one. I’ve already put it on the swap site. This is my first BarkBox. I’d say my reactions are mixed.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I received a response back from BarkBox – it’s true, their customer service is great!!! My dog is getting a new toy to replace the tiny Gulpy & they said they are looking at having an “extra large” Barkbox in the future : )

Wendy

Thanks for the feedback, Ashley! I bought a 3 month subscription, so hopefully the next two boxes will be more fitting to my 80 pound pup’s size…Regardless, he did really like it

Re jester ball — really?! My 15lb iggy bit down on it once or twice before the squeaker stopped working! (not that I am complaining! he likes to squeak his toys. a lot.)

Wendy

I just looked on You Tube and I saw another dog with the Large Dog/Big & Bold subscription get the same cute but small box with the tiny Gulpy. Does anyone else get the large dog box? What was in your box? Thanks!

Kathy

I got the exact one your dog received for my large dog as well.

Caitlin

Anyone else get the box for a bigger dog? What normally comes in it? I have a 40 pound puppy and don’t know how big he will get he is a rescue. Thanks!

Caitlin,
Read the posts by EC and myself below, those boxes were for the medium size dog. My dog is 45 pounds so she fell in to that category. As for the large dog, I’m not sure. But you could always order medium until your puppy surpasses that category and then switch.

We got the same box for my 15 lb dog with the exception of the mask toy. Instead we got a moisturizing spray.

I got the same box as you for my dog…

WARNING!!! The salmon treat SMELLS!!! I almost gagged as he ate the thing and the whole room smelled like stinky fish. I recommend giving this treat to your dog outdoors… but for the record, my dog loved it!

We received our first Barkbox yesterday and our pup loved every last thing in it! He’s a medium size dog (a shiba inu-husky mix, 40 lbs). Our box didn’t have a Mardis Gras theme though. He received the cutest stuffed moose and while Buddy loves it, it’s half his size! Not sure if they didn’t notice his size in the profile but he’s been dragging the massive thing around the house and outside (it’s in the 70s here–sorry to those on the east coast buried under snow and suffering subzero temps! So it’s all good). I know they have a satisfaction guarantee and ordinarily would have exchanged it but there’s no getting it away from our boy now, lol. He also got a bag of salmon treats, a bag of pumpkin-chicken sticks, a bully stick and a femur bone (yuck to me but yum to him). So far I’m very pleased with the subscription and we’re looking forward to next month. Until then my boy will be snuggling with a toy the size of a 2 year old child 😉

We got this same box for our standard poodle. It was her first bark box and she KNEW it was hers, even tho it arrived at the same time as my sons loot crate and my daughters Bluum box. She loves the moose!!! It is huge! But the giggle sound cracks me up and makes her crazy. And all the treats were fantastic. The beef femur gone is huge, I wonder what she’s going to think of that! She loves the sticks with the pumpkin, ate one in seconds. Another thing that cracks me up is we live in the woods and we see moose and deer drive her nuts, so the deer stick is perfect for her, along with the moose toy!!

The squeaker sound is definitely hilarious. Every time hubby and I threw it we cracked up. It wasn’t as funny at 3 AM when he decided to run through the house shaking it (the dog, not the husband), but still funny when we’re awake! We briefly discussed making 2 toys out of the giant moose but then thought better of it since it would have created a creepy headless stump. Buddy beheads his toys without our help anyway. But the thing seriously is as long as the dog! And taller too, lol.

We used to live in Alaska and our boy was always super brave barking at the moose in our yard, when he was safely indoors. Not so brave when he wasn’t shielded from several tons of mama moose and calf (I had to carry his chicken butt from the backyard into the house because he froze in fear when he saw one in the neighbor’s yard; my hero!).

Eve

I can’t wait to get this box! Our dogs love fish treats.

My dog loves Barkbox. She tries to open the box as soon as I bring it inside the house. She knows which box is her’s. Our box is the Just Right size for 20-50 lb dogs. We got a larger version of the jester ball and our Mardi Gras mask has rope on either end. She loves both of these. She grabbed the 10 inch bully stick right out of the box and tried to eat it with the plastic wrapper. We also got Cajun Jambalaya treats and King Cake biscuits. She hasn’t tried these two yet, but finished off the bully stick right away.

This month was my first Barkbox ever and my Teddy Bear loved it! We got the same box you did except for the crinkle mask toy we got a smell good spray for his skin and coat. He loved the crawfish treats and played with the jester ball all night last night. It was so cute watching him poke his head in the box while I was opening it, he instantly found the toy and ran off with it. I will definitely be signing up for a longer term subscription.

Yay! My dog loves Barkbox too. She absolutely knows when one is brought in the house and will paw at it until it gets opened for her. It’s fun to see them happy/excited like that. =)
