My Pretend Place Craft Subscription Box Review - Jan 2015 Box

My Pretend Place is a subscription service for children, offering both a quarterly subscription of costumes and theme-related items, and a monthly craft subscription. We recently reviewed the costume subscription, and that one was a lot of fun! This review is of the monthly crafts subscription.

This box was sent to us for review purposes. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

My Pretend Place Craft Subscription Box Review - Jan 2015 Instructions

This month we made superhero cuffs! I like that this craft is also costumery. It makes me wonder if all of them are.

As you can see from the instruction sheet, the only materials we needed aside from what was provided was scissors. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow, but this project was so easy we barely needed them!

Here's a better look at the supplies that were provided: glitter foam straps, glitter foam star stickers, and velcro strips.

Also included in every box from My Pretend Place is a big floppy magnet, a note, and some decorations in case you want to turn the shipping box into a storage box for your costumes and crafts. I love when the boxes are re-used!

We did have enough materials to make two pairs of cuffs, one for my 6-year-old and one for my 8-year old. We only got 8 stickers in the supplies, so the kids decided to use the extra stickers that came to decorate the box on the cuffs. Two stars per cuff just wasn't enough!

My Pretend Place Craft Subscription Box Review - Jan 2015 CuffsHere are the completed cuffs, ready for action! To complete the project, we just had to measure the straps on their wrists and cut them to size with enough overlap to apply the velcro. The velcro was also adhesive and pre-measured for the overlap area. The boys just peeled off the sticker backings and put them on the cuffs and we were done!

Verdict: In reality, we weren't done after the last step. The foam star stickers are too thick and would not bend with the cuffs. I was pretty sure they would fall off at any moment, so I put them under some books for 24 hours to see if the adhesive would set better. As you can see from the picture of the cuffs, they are still not adhering completely. I think the stars will probably fall off soon. The cuffs themselves are still pretty cool, the boys like them, and they will probably get some good use out of them. They had fun making them, but the crafting process, which is usually such good bonding time for us, only lasted about five minutes. Maybe it's because I was so blown away by My Pretend Place's costume subscription box, but I'm a little underwhelmed by this craft box. These cuffs are definitely an upgrade from the old school tin foil and magic markers of my childhood, but I'm not sure it's worth the $15, honestly.

What do you think of My Pretend Place's crafts offering?
