Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – January 2015 Box

Julep Maven is a monthly nail polish and beauty subscription box. They make all their own products, so subscribers get a good value each month – over $40 retail worth of product for $24.99 a month.

And, if you sign up for 3-months up front, you also get the $19.99 rate!

Each month Julep releases a new collection on the 20th, and you can decide which box you want, you can upgrade to the entire collection, or you can skip that month.

This month I decided to go with the Bombshell box.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – January 2015 Luxe Lip

Julep Nail Color in Sandi - Retail Value $14

Julep Luxe Lip in Sheer Fig - Retail Value $24

This lip gloss is very moisturizing and super shiny, but the color VERY sheer - almost no pigment.

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – January 2015 Eyeliner

Julep Gel Eye Glider in Navy Smoke - Retail Value $16

While I normally don't get too excited about eyeliners in subscription boxes, I picked this box combination from Julep because I really like the formula of their eye gliders, and this navy smoke is a very wearable dark blue eyeliner for me.

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – January 2015 Candy

The treat this month was a little box of Junior Mints - I couldn't believe this candy was dairy and gluten free!

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – January 2015 Coupon

Also – this box came with a Julep shop coupon code – get a free polish of your choice with a purchase of $15 or more with coupon code COLORFUN. (Make sure to add the polish of your choice to your cart before applying the coupon code).

Verdict: This wasn't the most exciting Julep Maven box for me, but the value is good and I'll use everything, so I'm happy. (And of course now I'm already looking forward to the February box!)

What did you get from Julep this month?

I’m not trying to take anything away from Julep. I just wanted to report that their appears to be a new nail polish box, and I don’t know where to post that since I’m not the maker of the box. The company is called Lillian and Eve (maybe Lillian & Eve), and their Feb box launched today. It’s going to be monthly. 2 polishes for $12.99 shipped.

Any one else notice that the writing on the box of Junior Mints and the little Allergen warning contradict themselves?

I am usually all about the polish, but I wasn’t that excited about the January colors, so I customized my box to get one polish (Casey) that I knew my 64 year old mother would LOVE and then swapped in some bareface cleansing oil and the sheer lip color in fig. HOWEVER! I got the “I woke up this way” mystery box this month, probably because I wanted some excitedment in my beauty life this month and I really liked the stuff I received in last month’s mystery box.

The nail polish isn’t a shade I usually would wear and went on very sheer. However, a second coat and it was opaque and a lovely beige-type color with the microglitter. I like it a lot more than I thought I would and I’m still wearing it now, two days later. I feel like I made out like a bandit with my surprises. In my mystery box: the Night Shift Sleeping Mask, Blank Canvas Plumping Lip Primer, Plush Pout Lip Crayon in Aurora Pink and two polishes – Aurora (melted platinum chrome) and Shari (“delicate sweet pea creme” – very light pink, in other words). I already had Aurora, but light colors are not something I used to buy or wear, so I’m looking forward to trying Shari.

Since they’ve revamped how they do the mystery boxes and have made them more season appropriate, and apparently started adding more beauty supplies (which I have very little of from Juelp), I think I like them better than the monthly box!

Weren’t you supposed to get a complimentary metamorphic top coat as well?

CreativelySwank

yes, I think you had to put in a code, but I’m sure Liz would have known it 😉 I received it and love it how it gives my manicure a few more days of life without me tiring of the color. I find the quality of their eyeliners to be quite good as well.

I received Bjork in mine. I received an email about two weeks before the January reveal telling me that I would get a metamorphic top coat for free in my box. IIRC, I just had to click a link in the email. I didn’t have to enter a code – that much I do remember.

I have no idea why I got one and other people didn’t. I know you used to get a code for a free polish of your choice if you took three monthly boxes in a row (or at least I have a couple of times in the past) and I took three monthly boxes in a row before the metamorphics came out, but did not receive a code for a free polish. I wonder if that had anything to do with it.

Laura

Which topcoat did you get CreativelySwank? I missed that you had to enter a code / sign up, so I didn’t get one but was going to order Bjork as one of my add-ons for Feb.
