Collectible Geek Collector's Cache Review - January 2015 Box

Collectible Geek is a relatively new subscription based around Funko Pop Vinyls - my husband's favorite thing to get in any geeky subscription box!

This box I'm reviewing is the January Collector's Cache which is Disney themed. (They let you know the theme ahead of time). We purchased this as a one-time-purchase box, but Collectible Geek just added a subscription option.

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Collectible Geek Collector's Cache Review - January 2015 Items

The Box: Collectible Geek Collector's Cache

The Cost: $33.50, includes flat-rate shipping (Flat-rate shipping on applies to the Collector's Cache).

The Products: "Each Collector’s Cache comes with five meticulously chosen items from the staff at collectibleGEEK, featuring a different theme each month."

Ships to: US and International (additional shipping costs)

Good to Know About Subscriptions: "This is a 6 month subscription to our Themed Collector's Cache.  Our subscription works a little different than most do though.  If for any reason you don't want to receive a month's theme all you have to do is send an email to [email protected] by the 5th of the month; with your name in it, type SKIP THIS MONTH in the subject line and we will just skip that month for you."

Collectible Geek Collector's Cache Review - January 2015 Baymax

POP Vinyl Big Hero 6 BayMax - Retail Value $18.50 (On Amazon for $12)

POP Vinyl Oswald Rabbit - Retail Value $11 (On Amazon for $9.23)

This BayMax has some minor paint issues on the back, but nothing visible when it is displayed. (Judging by the reviews on Amazon quite a few people had issues with paint on this POP).

We'll probably end up swapping Oswald Rabbit.

Collectible Geek Collector's Cache Review - January 2015 Elsa

Frozen Pocket POP in Elsa - Value $7

Disney Florida Mickey Spinner Keychain - Value $6

I didn't know Pocket POPS existed! So cute!

Collectible Geek Collector's Cache Review - January 2015 Poster

The Avengers Mashup Poster - Value $10?

This poster was designed exclusively for subscribers, so admittedly I may be off in my value estimate. If you have a better idea of what the value should be, please let me know.

Verdict: When I first told my husband about Collectible Geek he was so excited and put every possible Cache they offered at the time in his cart - only to be completely deflated by the high shipping costs. So we scaled back to just one box to try it out first. We paid a total of $39.70 for this box, and received about $45 worth of items (more if you count the retail values of POPS). That's a pretty fair value, but we decided to go with the 6-month subscription to get a little savings. The price for the 6-month subscription was $186 + $15.35 tax, so that should come to $33.56 a box.

Besides the value of the box, I'm very impressed with the curation of this box. And we're already bummed that we missed out on grabbing a February Collector's Cache. (The February collection is a Fantasy Cache - "sure to please fans of Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, D&D  fans, and more!")

Also - on another post a few of you had mentioned wanting to see my husband's POP Vinyl collection, so here it is:

POP Collection

(My personal favorite in this collection is the baby Groot!)

First off Liz let me thank you, and your husband, for being collectors and for this honest review of my company’s January Cache.I found this review to be very through and professional. I also, did see some people make a comment about the cost of shipping and we have adjusted our shipping cost to flat rate shipping across the board for all Cache’s. March Cache is live. The theme is the 80s. I couldn’t resist and even order a medium size shirt just in case I kept it 🙂 So order now for the 80s cache which will be delivered in March.

I ordered the February box since Fantasy is right up my alley. This box’s price included shipping. Hopefully this will be a trend. Their BYO caches and mystery mini caches did not include shipping, so I stuck to the one cache. I am looking forward to finding out what is in the Fantasy box. I am hoping that the March cache isn’t too tempting though. I have a $10 discount code coming from them, but February includes the Wheaton box, so my budget will already bee stretched to the breaking point. I am hoping for something I can resist followed by a great theme for April.

I love CollectibleGeek! As a Funko collector it’s amazing! Each month they do a themed Cache (sadly I missed Disney before it Sold Out), or a Build Your Own Box of Funko products (I think last month was Marvel). The shipping is crazy, but it’s 2 day priority. Since they’re pretty new (only a couple months), I’m hoping the shipping goes down in future.

And great collection! I would post mine, but I think it might be embarrassing. Haha

Love the POP collection! I’ve wondered how many you guys have, so it’s cool to see a photo.

Wow! Your husband’s collection is amazing, I need to show it to my older son. His collection is much smaller.

Thank you to Chris in NM for alerting me to this box. My son received an amazing Dec box which was Dead Pool themed.

Be sure to be on their email list. I received an email on 12/28/14 announcing the theme for Feb and that Feb boxes will be available for purchase starting 1/1/15. We didn’t purchase it because the theme did not interest my older son. I do think that means there should be an email at the end of Jan announcing March theme. I’m hoping it will be a good one because that is when my older son turns 16!

Love the Adventure Time figures!

That Funko collection is AWESOME! Love the Arrested Development and Regular Show ones. 10 out of 14 of my Funko Pops were from subscription boxes.

That little Elsa! LOVE IT… but that shipping cost is just ridiculous.

I got so excited when I saw that this box was focused on Pop vinyl figures. Until I saw the shipping. That’s just absurd. I don’t want to have to buy 6 months up front just to lower the shipping. Where the heck are they shipping from, Antarctica? Mars? Holy cow! Unless it’s being delivered by a shirtless hunk of man flesh messenger, I’m out.

I love the idea of this sub-box, but shipping is way too expensive to make it worth it. Realistically, you can buy any of their items at the store or online for cheaper then the price you pay. There’s no exclusivity to any items either.

Argh! I want this box!!! And, Liz, I want that wall of your husbands! So cool!

Aw, I’d love a Groot!

Your husband collection is pretty cool, and I’m dying for Elsa, I am a Disney Princesses freak and well I’m getting my 8 month old baby girl to be one too. Maybe somebody would post it for a swap.

My son would be so jealous! This is a much more sane thing to collect than my beaver collection (yes really – as long as they aren’t real: toys, keychains, etc.). Shelves of them.

Great subscription!
