Social Bliss The Style Box Subscription Review – Nov 2014 Info

Each box comes with a folded card detailing the items included, and the featured designer of the month. (The theme this month is '70s fall trends).

Social Bliss The Style Box Subscription Review – Nov 2014 Purse

Antik Kraft Fringe Bag - Suggested Retail Value $40

Unfortunately this box showed up around the same time the Nina Garcia Quarterly box arrived, so of course I couldn't help but compare this faux fringe crossbody bag to the Duex Lux Crossbody Fringe bag. The difference is night and day in terms of faux leather quality - the Duex Lux bag feels so much more soft and buttery than this one. (To be fair though - that bag is almost double the retail price).

The other issue though is that I do not understand the fringe attachment of this purse:

It just drapes so weirdly! (It is removable though!)

Social Bliss The Style Box Subscription Review – Nov 2014 Silver Necklace

T + J Designs Tassel Necklace - Value $78

This is the featured designer of the box, and in my opinion - the highest quality item in the box. It has a good weight to it, and it can be styled in different ways since it is just one long unconnected chain:

(I'm sure there are more creative ways of styling it than I came up with!

Social Bliss The Style Box Subscription Review – Nov 2014 Ring

Carnelian Semi Precious Stone Ring - Suggested Retail Value $14

I'm not too excited about this ring - but I guess I see how it fits into the '70s style theme.

Social Bliss The Style Box Subscription Review – Nov 2014 Bracelet

The Bravado Bracelet - Suggest Retail Value $12

This item on the other hand doesn't seem to fit the '70s theme.

Social Bliss The Style Box Subscription Review – Nov 2014 Palette

Mark On The Dot Lip Palette - Value $16

I always like getting palettes in subscription boxes, and lip palettes seem to be pretty rare in boxes, so I was happy with this beauty item!

Verdict: I like the T + J necklace and the lip palette, but the rest of the items weren't hits for me. I think this subscription is on the chopping block for me - what do you think of the November box?

That bracelet is flat out hideous

I subscribed to SocialBliss for 3 months, and I have a pile of stuff I won’t use. I don’t wear gold tone, but every piece of jewelry was gold. And I seriously don’t get the fringe on the purse this month.

glad I cancelled

I remember wearing necklaces like that as a belt in the late 70’s. You’d wrap it low over a long tunic type blouse.

Marlene

Thank GOD I cancelled!!

Sarah

Not that it will make much difference, but I felt like I should chime in. I work in the lapidary/jewelry field and those Carnelian rings have a retail value closer to $2.50. :-\

Just an FYI for folks who think the palette is by MAKE. It’s actually by Mark, as in Avon. Not at all the same in terms of retail value for what it’s worth. It seems like someone associated with SB also sells Avon since they’ve sent several of their products this year. Birchbox did include a MAKE shadow palette in their LE box though. That box is worth every penny of the $99 price. For the cost of 2 SB boxes you could snag the BB holiday box and actually get legit value and quality.

My husband modeled it would n his upper arm for me. Hilarious.

What?

I do not recall anything like that bracelet in the 70’s.

Laurie

Maybe you’ve blocked it out?

This made me laugh out loud!

It’s always interesting reading the reviews. I would never had guess that the fringe piece is a bracelet.

The necklace is kind of cool. However, I’d totally understand if you cancelled. This doesn’t seem like a must-keep kind of box.

The fringe on the bag is supposed to be a “bracelet” that you wear while holding the bag. Seems a little silly, but at least it is removable!

Liz Cadman

A ha! That makes more sense. Thanks for letting me know!

Oh yeah, i forgot to comment on you question (I yhink you received a Lancer moisturizer) well I received a lancer eye cream from Glossy box , I’m mad I LOVE it because it’s expensive lol, but great product.

Cosette

Hey Liz that fringe migh also be made to attach to the bag so you can have 2 looks, fringe/nofringe, check to see if you can attach it across the front. The necklace is totally awesome. Thanks again for all your holday updates. You are the BEST.

Lin

As much as I hated to do it, this was the end of my relationship with Social Bliss. I loved it at first but each month it’s steadily gone down hill for me. Looks like I’ll be trading all of the contents besides the lip pallet which is the only thing I liked.

...

With the fringe removed, I like the bag more than the one PS sent, which is a more fair comparison than the NG bag. The necklace is versatile, and I like that the ring is made from a natural material. The lip pallet is great and not something we see much of in subs. I don’t like the bracelet, but big chains were a thing in the 70s, so it sort of fits.

It’s probably my favourite SB box so far, though I don’t like it enough to subscribe.

I have the Nina Garcia fringe bag in Mink and I’d love to swap for the T + J tassel necklace if anyone is interested!

Amanda

The necklace is beautiful! The purse is just … weird. That fringe attachment is bizarre and I would definitely make the NGQ comparison on the purses. My first thought on seeing that bracelet was that it was picked up at some adult store as a bondage accessory.

Reply ButtonReply

DaisyK

Hahaa, I had the same reaction to the bracelet. It looks very bondage-y to me. Yikes. I unsubscribed from this box MONTHS ago (I think either June or July) and I have not missed it. It was one of those boxes that started out really strong and built a lot of hype and expectations, and unfortunately fell flat fairly quickly. I think the MAKE palette is the only thing in this box worth anything (but I’ve become highly critical of this sub, so it may just be my personal bias).

Reply ButtonReply

EC

I’m right there with you. This is perhaps the worst sub box I’ve ever gotten. And I was one of the original subscribers who signed up before they launched. I unsubbed back in July and it’s gotten worse every month since. I’d drop it too since it’s mostly a box of cheap Chinese knockoff products you can buy direct on eBay for less than a third of the box price.

CecilyK

I actually really liked this box! But then again, I like things that are “different!” The past three months of Social Bliss have been lackluster, but I think they really redeemed themselves with this box. It’s certainly not for everyone, though. They don’t adhere to the middle-of-the road, conservative style most people seem to like.

Reply ButtonReply

Amanda

Good! I am happy when people like boxes that are less popular. (I have personal experience with everyone seeming to hate the last Nina Garcia box whereas I loved it.) Plus that necklace is fabulous.

Reply ButtonReply

Helen

Yeah, even if I had money to burn, this box would be cancelled! Ugh.

Reply ButtonReply

Anna

The bag styling took me forever to figure out. I sent you an email, Liz, with a drawing… LOL

Reply ButtonReply

Sara

This whole box just looks terrible anymore, they used to have cute things. If I had gotten this box I’d be angry, I don’t like anything in it.

Cancel!

Laurie

OK, that bracelet — what the what?

Reply ButtonReply

Jill G

The bracelet to me screams “Power to the People” like the Black Panthers or something. Strange indeed.

Reply ButtonReply

Ann D

I seriously thought “Black Power” also!

Amanda

Yes it does … those knots look like fists.
