Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – December 2014 Box

Julep Maven is a monthly nail polish and beauty subscription box. They make all their own products, so subscribers get a good value each month – over $40 retail worth of product for $24.99 a month. (Julep recently raised their prices, but apparently there will be more customization too. Current subscribers will keep the $19.99 rate).

And, if you sign up for 3-months up front, you also get the $19.99 rate!

Each month Julep releases a new collection on the 20th, and you can decide which box you want, you can upgrade to the entire collection, or you can skip that month.

This month I decided to go with the Classic with a Twist box.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – December 2014 Polish

Julep Nail Color in Ilga – Retail Value $14

Julep Nail Color in Sienna – Retail Value $14

I had no debate picking out my polishes for this month - these colors are perfect for the holidays!

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – December 2014 Eye Shadow

Julep Orbital Eyeshadow - Retail Value $18

I picked the Equinox shade, which is described as a "pewter with silvery purple pearlescence." It goes on somewhat sheer, and Julep included a card recommending using a wet eyeshadow brush for a heavier pigmented look. I really like the color - and the pearlescent pigment gives it dimension without being too shimmery/sparkly. I tried it without eyeshadow primer and it did crease pretty easily - but I think that's the case with pretty much any eyeshadow when I don't prime first.

Verdict: I'm happy with my nail polish shades and my beauty product this month! Did you try the Orbital eyeshadow this month? Which color did you get?

Als0 - FYI this box came with a Julep shop coupon code - 30% off a purchase with coupon code THRITYOFF.

Hi I was wondering about how the julup sub works, as far as the dates one needs to cancel by. I just today ordered their free month deal and I saw it said gift, I was confused whether the gift pictured is the free month or is that in addition to free month? I was wondering when I need to cancel by to ensure I don’t pay for the next full month subscription. Can anyone help me out Thanks

I thought I had been cancelled but they didn’t cancel me. I still had to get the box. Their customer service is terrible. I never had the option to select. Though I did try. Not even the eyeshadow. I am not sure what color, I got for the eyeshadow because they shipped it separate from my julep box.

I hated my black friday surprise! It was a yellowish green nail polish. That’s it. Then the surprise #2 was a reddish orange and a brown shimmery one. Slightly better. Neither one screamed holiday to me. More like old leftovers.

I’ve only been a Maven for a year now, but I already have about 80 Julep polishes. I’m at the point where almost every new color is a near-dupe for one of their polishes I already own. I love their formula but it’s getting harder and harder to find anything from them I’m interested in purchasing and I’ve been skipping most boxes for the past few months.

I’m not that interested in getting makeup items from them and I wish they’d offer more interesting finishes and colors. I love their stardust finishes and would probably buy it in just about any color. I would be in heaven if they came out with some multichromes, or more multi-colored toppers. I’d even be interested in scented polishes. I feel like there is so much more they could be doing, but perhaps I’m not their target customer.

I just signed up for Rainbow Honey’s mystery bag sub and thought I’d give it a try for at least a few months. I’m surprised I see so few reviews of it since the ones I do see seem to be positive.

I’m just glad Julep never took away my skip privileges and decided to go ahead and give them to other customers. It makes me much less likely to cancel my sub and instead hang in there until they come out with something that intrigues me.

I’ve been a rainbow honey subscriber for a few months and I love them. They have really pretty polishes and fun glitters, and no two polishes look alike hope you enjoy them

(RAINBOW HONEY SPOILER ALERT)
Just got my first Rainbow Honey mystery bag today and I’m in love!! For $25 I got 3 full size (.5 oz) polishes – a regular polish, a glitter topper, and a scented topcoat along with a cuticle balm stick, a lotion, and a solid perfume, all full sized. I realize not being able to pick your colors is a downside but I can’t recall seeing a RH color online that I didn’t like. I wonder why more people don’t get/review this sub.

Allie

Thanks Laura! I just got a tracking number so I should be getting my first bag in a few days. I’m pretty excited!

I have been a Maven for a year too and I have the same feelings. I have more than enough nail polish and while I like some of their make-up products, they aren’t “wow” products for me.

I can’t remember what the cut-off date for being able to skip monthly is…but I think I’m going to start skipping.

I am SO obsessed with Julep right now. This is my first official month with them. I got the “free” intro Christmas nail polish and eyeliner with the intention of canceling because I really shouldn’t be paying $25 a month but I had no idea how awesome their makeup is (especially the eyeliner!!!) I never was even that crazy about nail polish but now I am.
I went a little overboard this month lol. I got Soleil, Sienna and Orbital Eyeshadow – Airglow because I am obsessed with all gold and glitter.
I LOVE the eyeshadow, wore it today.

I added on Fa La La Trio – Black Friday Preview (charisma (glittery red, winnie, and margot
Mystery Polish 1—Amira (silver glitter)
Mystery Polish 2—Alex (glittery purple)
Queen Anne (pink glitter)
And free gift for add ons—blank canvas plumping lip primer
and there were a couple other nail polishes in shades of purple and silk effect top coat. Not sure if these were also a free gift or an accident. Either way I am SUPER happy.
I have another order coming soon from cyber monday 50% off secret shop and got three of the secret surprises, argan oil, nail file, Cheers-Worthy Hands pack, Luxe Care Hand Crème, Luxe Repair Skin Serum, Julep Lip Gloss – Polished, Julep Lip Gloss – Charming…
Like I said I went crazy with them this month but all those with 50% off were such a great deal.

Me too. I’ve been wanting to try them but waiting for the perfect free box. This is up my alley, a creamy brown eye liner. Plus the colors are pretty, if I receive the ones shown. I think one is a white color and they all look great for winter. I haven’t received mine yet but going to try and save it for Christmas! 🙂

I went slightly overboard with subs this month. All the target boxes, ipsy, birchbox, Boxycharm and sample society. Plus I’m getting a free fab fit fun box and the Wal-Mart box is suppose to be due soon. I am debating blush beauty mystery box. I’m with them off and on lately. I was tempted to get a few more, half off Wantable box and petit vour, etc. Too many temptations this month.

Sienna is an older polish so I had that one. I got Bombshell and Airglow shadow. I have no choice but it use a wet brush. It has the worst fall-out of any shadow I’ve tried. Kind of disappointed about that. I had glitter all over my cheeks.

Agreed, I plan on complaining, I’m still finding glitter from when I tested it 2 days ago.
