GlossyBox Subscription Box Review – December 2014 Box

GlossyBox is a monthly beauty subscription box. They have the best packaging in the business, their products are usually deluxe-size or full size, and the value is usually really good too. The only issue with this box seems to be the late shipping – I would recommend just keeping that in mind and setting your expectations accordingly if you sign up for this box.

GlossyBox sent us this box for review purposes. (My Subscription Addiction also pays for this subscription, but I haven’t received a shipping notification email for my December box yet). (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

GlossyBox Subscription Box Review – December 2014 Info

Each box comes with a fold out card detailing the items included.

GlossyBox Subscription Box Review – December 2014 Ciate

Ciate Mini Nail Polish in All Aglow - Value $8

Bellapierre Cosmetics Mineral Lipstick in Burlesque - FULL SIZE! Value $20

Both of the shades of these items are listed on the fold-out card, so I'm assuming there won't be color variation box-to-box. The Ciate mini is super mini, and just the right amount of glitter for me.

The Bellapierre lipstick has a very creamy and moisturizing finish. I also like that it is made with natural ingredients. My only issue with it is this specific shade - it's pretty bold for me. (I guess you can't be upset about a lipstick being heavily pigmented though! I may try another color from this line).

GlossyBox Subscription Box Review – December 2014 Nuxe

Toni&Guy Prep Leave In Conditioner – FULL SIZE! Retail Value $17

NUXE Masque Creme Fraiche de Beaute - FULL SIZE! Value $32

This leave in conditioner is intended to be applied on damp hair. I like the scent, and it seems to work well (but I've only tried it on dry hair so far).

This NUXE mask is a moisturizing mask, that hopefully will be great for my dry winter skin! You're supposed to apply it to your face, let it sit for 10 minutes, then "gently massage any excess product in."  The scent is described as having notes of orange blossom, and it smells flowery to me. I'm not in love with the scent - but I don't mind it either.

I think both of these items are good picks for a December box - hydration is a need for my skin and my hair right now!

GlossyBox Subscription Box Review – December 2014 Ritual

Ritual Cosmetics Miracle Scrub in Ginseng & Ginko Biloba - FULL SIZE! Value $17

This is another item where I don't love the scent, but I don't mind it either. The hand scrub works well too - I just tried it out and after rinsing off the scrub my hands are moisturized but not oily.

Verdict: I think this is a really well-curated winter box. The scrub, mask and leave-in conditioner are all seasonally appropriate, and the nail polish is nice for a little holiday sparkle. The only item I don't love is the lipstick - but that's just a color preference. The formula itself - I like! The retail value this month is impressive too - $94.

What do you think of the December 2014 GlossyBox?

I emailed GB to ask about receiving the shadow vs. the lipstick since I’d never seen them send out different boxes to subscribers. Here’s the response I received:

We have different version of boxes every month and customers are sent one version randomly. We started making different versions recently to accommodate the increase in our customer base. We hope this clarifies!

Am I the only one who didn’t know this? And am I the only one wishing that everyone got the same box so that there are no ‘hard feelings’?

Is this odd? I just received a second December GlossyBox. (No that is not the odd part–I re-subbed with the November 3 month code.) I knew I was getting a second December box but was fine with that because I loved the hand scrub so much. However, today I got the second box. And, there is no lipstick in it. Instead there is a Sumita champagne eye pencil (duplicate of the one that was in the June box. I am not happy about that as I didn’t want the first one, let alone a second. But the very odd thing is that the card enclosed has the eye pencil rather than the lipstick.

I did not know GlossyBox sent out different boxes! Did you? Has anyone else experienced this?

Oh, and it has sparkly bright blue polish. (Am I twelve?)

I also got this box late but i just figured it was because of all the xmas shipping. Regardless i loved everything!! I did get the Humbug (black n silver) Ciate polish which is totally my style! Not used to bright lipstick but this one looked and felt awesome on me! Ive luckily have not had any problems with their custo service either. HAPPY SUBBER!;)

I got silver glitter polish. Not that much into glitter but it’s not awful. My favorite item is the hand scrub. Love that! Looking forward to trying the mask.

I was just curious and looked up what was in the UK box and saw a really nice dual brow powder and a concealer quad. I wish we’d get something like that here!

I signed up in late November for the 1 year subscription. Included in that was the $40 holiday box. Yesterday i got sent this box, PLUS the holiday box PLUS the November box! bonus! was like christmas all over again.
I hope they dont charge me for the extra November box.

I loved this box and was really happy with the 3 full-size beauty products – I’ll use them all. The nail polish & lipstick will be swapped, because I just have too many. (I’d love to have a couple months without a nail polish, but maybe I’m in the minority there.) One of the best I’ve gotten!

I’ve seen a lot of complaints about GlossyBox but so far I have loved it. I thought this box was great. The pink lipstick was a flattering shade but I tend to wear bright colors in the winter. I wasn’t sure what to do with the turquoise nail polish but I have a deep blue polish and I layered the glitter on top and it looked great.

I’m sorry other people have had such trouble with customer service. It has worked well for me. Plus, the boxes are great for wrapping Christmas presents.

I’m new to this and I’m debating in subscribing or not?? I don’t like doing long term subscriptions, therefore you ladies with glossy box experience I need help!!!!!! can I just do one month and cancel if I wish not to continue or is there a fee for canceling after one month?

Reply ButtonReply

Patti

I canceled after my first month, well before they were to charge for the following month but they informed me I would still be charged for one more box. Glossybox is very tricky and not into pleasing their paying customers. I do not recommend.

Reply ButtonReply

Carrie

They did the same thing to me this month! VERY sneaky!!!

sarah

I also received the blue sparkly nail polish instead of the gold, which I was not very happy about it cuz I was looking forward to the gold. I do like this box except for the blue nail polish and the bright pink lipstick.

Patti

Am I the only person who received the Ciate mini polish in Humbug (black and silver glitter)? I was surprised to see it when I received it yesterday based on all the comments about gold or blue polish. I’m definitely happier with this month’s box except for the hideous shade of Bella Pierre lipstick in Burlesque which came smashed at the tip. I’m still glad I canceled my subscription based on their customer service and shipping problems.

I love reading the reviews for Glossybox. Some of the items are great, but I don’t think I could spent so much on a box where the colors are not tailored to match my skin tone/style. I would never wear a bright pink lipstick! I’m still trying to look for a beauty box with better customization.

Reply ButtonReply

Cindy

I don’t think any box at this price range or lower customizes for color. Am I uninformed?

Reply ButtonReply

Lisa

I subscribe to birchbox ($10) and petit vour ($15) and they both have beauty profiles where you can indicate your style and skin tone. They have always sent appropriate products to me based on my profile, but I have heard from some others that they still send whatever.

Cindy

It seems that Glossy Box may have been forced to listen to all the complaints about late shipping. (Maybe many have raised their voice with their wallets; i.e., cancelled and given that as a reason.) I have a shipping notice for my December box which states I will receive it December 29 – 30. That is much earlier than I have received it any of the past months of my six month subscription. (This is month six.) All the other months, the last few days of the month is when it was shipped and I did not receive it for 7 – 10 days after shipment. In my mind, the ‘month’ of the box means the month of receipt, not shipment. I feel it should also be the month of billing as well.

I paid for my Glossybox at the beginning of the month and, for the last three weeks, it has been in the packaging stage. It’s December 27th now and they aren’t responding to emails or phone calls… getting the same problem with busy signals or no one being around to take my call. This is my first box and now I’m debating on canceling the subscription. I get other boxes (FabFitFun, Yogi Surprise, and Yuzen) and the customer service is pretty outstanding for all three. FabFitFun sometimes takes their time responding but if you post to their Facebook page they respond much more quickly than if you email them. Glossybox doesn’t seem to care about peoples’ opinions nor their threats of canceling.

I just emailed (after calling twice and first receiving a busy signal and then being told no one was available to take my call) and asked where my December box was and they responded quickly. They told me they ship the third and fourth week of the month (first time I’ve ever heard that from them) and that some boxes do arrive the following month. Disappointing, I know.

I didn’t get the All Aglow polish and I’m so disappointed. I got a turquoise glitter that I’m definitely regifting.
I really wish that if there was more than one color option subscribers would be told that. It’s disappointing to be waiting for a specific color all month and then not get it. Its not even a winter color!

Reply ButtonReply

Kerry

I agree! I got the ugly turquoise as well, I don’t know any adult women that would wear this color! I was looking forward to the gold for the holidays! I will be regifting as well- to my two and a half year old niece…that is the age level for a color like this!

I really loved this box! I have to admit – when I saw the lipstick in the bold pink I was a bit afraid to try it. But I put it on tonight and LOVED it! It is bold but it’s flattering and looks like it will complement many skin tones. I would never have thought that I could pull off such a bright shade until trying this. In my opinion, that is what glossybox is about – getting a chance to try products that you might not treat yourself to, and overall having fun with the contents. This is by far my favorite box, and my favorite month.

Reply ButtonReply

Astra

Agreed. I have to admit I am sometimes agog at the complaints about things in a subscription box not working exactly as desired. If I want something specific, I’ll go buy it. The fun of the box is trying new things and it will be hit or miss. Too many misses and obviously it isn’t the right subscription for you but otherwise, it’s entertaining experience.

Reply ButtonReply

Vanessa

Same here! The color looks really bright pink in the tube, a shade I would never pick for myself….but I tried it and its really flattering. I actually really like it too (surprisingly).

I understand how all of you feel about Glossybox, however, despite their poor customer service through emails, they have become my favorite box. There products are always nice and the packaging is the best of any boxes that I receive.I didn’t get a shipping notice for my LE Holiday Box(which I ordered on Black Friday for $20 Yippee), but I got it a week before Christmas, which is a great surprise. I think they are much better products than BIrch Box or Ipsy. I feel like I always get my money’s worth each month, even if it’s at the end of the month. I did have luck getting CS to respond through Facebook. They reply right away!

I canceled after not liking the November box, which I thought was a laughable value. However they had already “processed” my December payment…so I just recieved my Dec box. HATE it. First the box is so ugly. Second, the nail polish I have is sparkly blue. Blue? In winter? This is that pool blue with glitter… in December??? Where is the cute gold one that Liz got? My lipstick is red, oddly the pink that y’all are not liking, I wish I had that as red and I do not get along… Especially this red. It is very intense, channeling the “addicted to love” Robert Palmer girl look red…which is completely opposite to my beauty profile. The rest of the items were interesting and great value/size, I’m sure I’ll use them but I’m not jumping up and down saying “wahoo, more leave in conditioner”. Glad I canceled my subscription.

Kathy

Yuck, why do they always send out pink coloured lip sticks? I thought it would be more red for the holidays? Looks like I have to give it away to a co-worker or relative.

Sarah

I signed up at the beginning of November for a full year and then with the deal where you get the Holiday box for free. I haven’t seen November’s box, the Holiday box, or December’s box. All status updates for November have been removed from my dashboard, and December’s update is just sitting at paid. Customer service says that November/Holiday boxes are back ordered while they get some more product in. Have to say I’m pretty unimpressed so far. Wish I hadn’t committed to a full year, but I’m hoping it gets better.

MSA website says there’s a coupon code for Glossybox. Where is it? I can’t seem to find it.

I believe they just get really overwhelmed with the high demand that it just takes them a while to ship out everyone’s boxes… they may not have as many employees as these other companies have so it’s less help to package everything at once. They may be behind in shipping but I feel the quality and presentation of their products makes the wait worth it. Yes I’m sure some times the products get damaged in shipping but it’s not always something they have control over. I have always gotten my boxes and never had a damaged box. I love this subscription and think they get attacked over issues that really they can’t always control.. also.. glossybox isn’t the only company that sends to bloggers first.. this is practically their only means of advertising so it’s no different picking up a magazine and seeing the new Too Faced spring lip gloss before it’s available for sale. Just my opinion.. 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

Cindy

I understand your points. However, a company’s internal problems/issues should not be the customers’ problems/issues. It is up to a business to run their business in a manner that is conducive to customers wanting to do business with them. I have no problem with them sending to bloggers early. It helps all of us who are on the fence any given month. However, if you consistently struggle to get your product out the door and into the customers’ hands in a timely fashion you will find that your customers will do business with those who can manage to be timely. I received my shipping notice yesterday. It looks like they are trying to get them in hands earlier this month. I usually get mine last week of the month. I do love this box more than others I’ve tried so I’m keeping this one for a while yet.

Does anyone else find it interesting that My Subscription Addiction received their free “review” box sooner than most of us (including Liz herself) receive our paid-for boxes? When I started my own subscription addiction a year ago, I looked into Glossybox and received such rude customer service that I didn’t subscribe. As my addiction grew, I decided that I had to try out Glossybox despite my misgivings. My first box was was November 2014’s. I wasn’t impressed. I feel their seemingly high end packaging and website are what we are really paying for. They need to focus more on the actual products and better customer service, particularly their shipping/payment updates and information. Why can’t they provide better information about when we will receive our box? Ipsy and Birchbox do it and their customer service is far superior. I canceled right after I received my November box and when I canceled, they informed me I would still be receiving December’s box despite the fact that I had not been charged for it and wouldn’t be until weeks after I canceled. That is unacceptable. If a customer cancels their subscription, you should not charge them for next month’s box. I cannot say enough how much you should avoid Glossybox. It is most definitely not worth the $21 price tag and aggravation.

Cristina

I got my November box last week and it’s completely ruined. All of the products except 1 were either broken or opened and spilled throughout the box. I was pretty upset since Glossybox makes us wait a month to get it and they can’t even properly package it. It’s been a week and they haven’t responded to my email regarding it and I doubt they’ll get back to me. If you’re thinking about subscribing to this company I would rethink it. You will never receive the box on time and you will be charged for the next box before receiving the previous box. Their customer service is horrible. I honestly wish I listened to all the other reviews before signing up. I’ve only been a customer for 3 months and these are all the things I’ve seen wrong with them so far. I cancelled and the December box will be the last one I will ever get. If you’re looking for similar products for the same price but faster shipping and better customer service I suggest Boxycharm.

Write to them on Facebook, usually they answer. And if you make a photo of your destroyed items, they will send you a new box. They are good in replacing. I like Glossybox a lot. Always nice, high end stuff.

I am not thrilled with Glosdybox. I just subscribed (ruelala) and for over 2 1/2 weeks my box shows paid however not packed nor shipped (obv) I gave emailed 3 times (no response other than my email was received) and I just facebooked them. I wanted yo know if I would receive by Xmas however without response nor box bring packed, I doubt it. HOWEVER, I Also ordered the holiday box (thank you for the code!!! As it was $20 and I should have that box by Tuesday.

I also got my sub through ru lala , on thanksgiving and it says on my shipping info that I will not receive my Dec box until the first week of Jan.it’s really disappointing because I wanted to give parts of it to people for Christmas

My November box didn’t even ship until December 2nd. It’s one thing to ship later in the month but that is just ridiculous. I cancelled so December is my last month and i just cant wait to get it so i can be done with this company. I should have just listened to all of the horrible reviews and not signed in the first place.

I had looked at the website and didn’t see the option. I looked at it again in more detail and was able to figure it out and cancel it. Thanks for letting me know!
