Cate & Chloe Subscription Box Review – December 2014

Cate & Chloe Subscription Box Review - December 2014 Box

Cate & Chloe is a monthly jewelry subscription box. Each month they send you two jewelry pieces. They used to send to classic pieces each month, but lately it seems like they are mixing it up and sending one classic piece and one “statement” piece. (This month they are back to two classic pieces).

Cate & Chloe kindly sent me this box to review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Cate & Chloe Subscription Box Review - December 2014 Info

Each box comes with a card which details each jewelry piece and it’s retail value. (I would say these retail values are inflated, but the jewelry is definitely worth the $20 a piece subscription pricing).

Brittany “Goddess” Bangle – Cate & Chloe Retail Value $99

This bracelet was listed on the card as a free gift this month. I think it’s my favorite piece in the box because I have nothing like it. It is made with a silver plated mesh, and the mesh material gives it a lighter look than traditional silver.

Cate & Chloe Subscription Box Review - December 2014 Earrings

Belle “Beautiful” Earrings – Cate & Chloe Retail Value $99

I like these earrings a lot too – the black stone lined with the CZ stones is the right about of sparkle for me.

Cate & Chloe Subscription Box Review - December 2014 Bangles

Sydney “Brave” Bangle (Couldn’t find this item on their site yet)

This bangle set is the one item in the box that isn’t for me – the bangles are a little too big and heavy for me to wear.

Verdict: Since they included a bonus free gift this month, I think the value is great – that breaks down to about $13.30 a piece. What do you think of the December Cate & Chloe selections?

  1. I definitely agree that their retail values are just ludicrous. Their pieces are worth $10-$20 each and I think you could find pieces exactly like theirs at any Target or similar for $10-$20.

BUT… Their customer service is fantastic. They will replace anything you don’t like, no questions asked, and they will allow you to choose their replacement… So I stick with them.

So if you wear costume jewelry (which I do at work), this is a fun sub because you get about what you paid in value but you get to try new things you maybe would not have bought. If you only wear fine jewelry, this is not the sub for you. If the price point is too high for you for costume jewelry, this is not the sub for you. But if you’re looking to expand your casual jewelry collection, I think this is a fun sub.

    And the CS is awesome….

  2. I don’t think their items are truly the “value” they claim they are….I think they are closer to Liz’s breakdown of $13.30 a piece. I think their designs are dated and a little tacky at times…..definitely no where near $99 a piece.

Is BaubleBar still doing a box? Is there any jewelry box that has really high quality items? I finding more items I like in other subscription boxes than actual jewelry subscription boxes. 🙁

  3. Word of warning on the silver mesh pieces from C&C: you WILL get tarnish. I was dismayed one day to go put one on (I subbed for a few months earlier in the year) and it looked terrible. But I found a website that tells you how to get rid of the tarnish.

Get an aluminum pie plate. (Or if you don’t have one, find a container big enough to hold your jewelry piece and put a sheet of aluminum foil in it.) Put in 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of table salt. Fill it with hot (not boiling) water and put your jewelry piece in. Then you have to let it sit. Mine took maybe 4 hours. But it really got rid of all the tarnish and my bracelet looked as good as new. (Was nice for the wire mesh because that’s hard to scrub with any kind of tarnish removal product.)

    • Thanks for the tip, that’s good to know just in general. (She says while pawing through her jewelry box hoping to find tarnish….)
