Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – November 2014 Box

Julep Maven is a monthly nail polish and beauty subscription box. They make all their own products, so subscribers get a good value each month – over $40 retail worth of product for $24.99 a month. (Julep recently raised their prices, but apparently there will be more customization too. Current subscribers will keep the $19.99 rate).

And, if you sign up for 3-months up front, you also get the $19.99 rate!

Each month Julep releases a new collection on the 20th, and you can decide which box you want, you can upgrade to the entire collection, or you can skip that month. (They recently changed their skip policy – If you’re a new subscriber, you earn a skip every 6 months).

This month I decided to go with the Boho Glam box.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – November 2014 Polish

Julep Nail Color in Joanne - Retail Value $14

Julep Nail Color in Sawyer - Retail Value $14

I'm really happy with my color picks this month. They are both perfect for fall/holidays, and they actually compliment each other really well.

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – November 2014 Mascara

Julep Length Matters Mascara - Retail Value $26

Julep released two new mascaras this month - and I think it's a big improvement over their last mascara formula from 2 years ago. (I remember reviewing that mascara when I first started this blog!).

The first thing I noticed about this mascara is the wand/brush. Typically I prefer a fuller mascara brush, but I think this one is designed for length, so I got over that! It does a good job of adding length and keeping lashes separate. I didn't have any issues with klumping or lashes sticking together until I tried applying a 3rd coat.

In addition to the Length Matters mascara, I also added the Go Big Volumizing Mascara to my box this month as an Add-On. Julep sent me an email that it's delayed, so it will ship separately. (They also added Jules to my account as an apology).

I'll update once I get that mascara as I think it's going to be a better fit for my taste - I love dramatic eyes and I think volumizing mascara is the only way to do it!

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – November 2014 Candy

The bonus item this month was Vanilla Caramel Cream Candy. (Props to Julep for always including ingredient and allergen info any time they include a candy bonus item!)

Julep Maven Review & Free Box Code – November 2014 Holiday

This box also came with a fold out card showing their new holiday gift collections (I want the eyeshadow palette!). And they included a coupon code for $10 off a purchase of $20 or more: 20PLUS.

Verdict: I'm happy with my Julep box this month - I love my nail polish picks, and I'm pleased with their new mascara formulas - I just can't wait to get my hands on the volumizing version!

What did you get from Julep this month? What do you think of their new mascara?

I am curious…do you find the polish overly thick? It also seems to peel right off after a few days. I will be cancelling this box, I ordered a bunch of extras (the wand being one) and LOVE the colors and bottles, but it seems high priced for polish that doesn’t last!

I received my maven box yesterday. It had mascara in it and nothing else! I emailed them to let them know so we will see how long it takes to get a response….

Good luck.

If you are able to call them (don’t press the menu item for canceling, press something else — “3” for billing worked well for me), you may get a faster response. I know there are horror stories about their phone system. But every time I tried, I got right through. About 6:30 PM Eastern time, generally on Mondays, I had almost no wait.

I received my box today, and was really intrigued to see what I got. From my previous comment I added on 3 items and used 1750 in jules. I ended up only paying $14.99 for this box even though one of my add-ons was supposed to cover the 1750 jules I added. I guess i’m happy that this worked out in my favor, but still a little confused. I did get all my items plus two bonus polish and gel eye glider. The only issue is two of my polishes are the same shade “eden”. I emailed them about it this morning to see if this was on purpose or on accident.

I don’t know what is going on lately with Julep. I am a Maven Luxe subscriber, which I love since I often prefer the beauty/hair/makeup products over the nail polish (after a year of being a Julep subscriber, I have way too much polish). I also often add a few add-ons, which gets me a “free mystery gift.” However, with so many products coming in the box (subscription box, add-ons, and free gift), I have no idea what I actually paid for and I’ve now received duplicates in the SAME BOX three times now. Overall, I end up with more product than I might have actually ordered (which is why I haven’t called to get my order fixed), but it’s just annoying and it seems like they are just throwing random items in the boxes.

I just received my box today. I received the same mascara and two gel eye glider and they are both in the same color. That does not seem right.

You should contact them. I am sure that was a mistake.

Hi Liz! 🙂

I prefer fuller brushes too. I just purchased a deluxe sample of Benefit they’re real mascara and it has a really similar wand. I love Urban Decay perversion. When I first got it, I thought nothing special but I notice I am much faster with my coat and barely need a coat for great volume. I live the volume; brush and formula. So far I am still using the sample and it is now my favorite and I guess I am oddball as I do not find they’re real mascara all that special.

I am glad Julep is continuing to do makeup items and hope they incorporate more in there boxes because I would definitely sub. 🙂

Got my box a couple days ago. The color Fazia (liquid granite shimmer) is amazing. One of my favorite colors ever. Swapped the mascara out for the freedom polymer top coat since I have a lot of mascara and don’t need to add any more to the mix.

I got this box with the go big mascara and eyeliner combo- i’m a little worried that since Lizs’ was delayed that mine will be too? I got three add-ons this time and will supposedly get another item for choosing three. I also had 1750 jules I used to cover one of my add-ons, and was expecting my payment to be around $30 since I still get the $19.99 maven box. My card was only charged $14.99, so i’m really not sure how these jules work, or if i’ll receive all my products this month. Any one else have any idea how the jules are applied?

I believe in the FAQ on their site it explains what dollar amount the Jules are equal to. I just don’t remember it offhand.
