Julep Diamond Mystery Box Review - Nov 2014 Box

About a week ago Julep launched their latest Mystery Box - the Diamond Mystery Box. My impression of Julep Mystery boxes lately has been that the nail polish colors are from older seasons and not seasonally appropriate. A few readers comments about the October Mystery Box being surprisingly good convinced me to try another one. (And I'm glad I did!)

My Subscription Addiction paid for this box. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Julep Diamond Mystery Box Review - Nov 2014 Items

The Box: Julep Diamond Mystery Box (no longer available)

The Cost: $24.99

The Products: $150 worth of beauty and nail polish including 2 new diamond nail polish colors

Julep Diamond Mystery Box Review - Nov 2014 Polish

Julep Nail Color in Nic - Retail Value $14

Julep Nail Color in Eliana - Retail Value $14

Julep Nail Color in Austen - Retail Value $14

Julep Nail Color in Nancy - Retail Value $14

Julep Nail Color in Chantel - Retail Value $14

Julep Nail Color in Sky - Retail Value $14

The two glitter polishes on the right are the new shades made for this box. I love that Julep is getting back to featuring new polish shades in Mystery boxes - it makes it so much easier to take the risk without worrying about getting 100% duplicate shades. And the other four shades are great for winter - I'm kind of thrilled with this selection!

Julep Diamond Mystery Box Review - Nov 2014 Lipgloss

Julep Invisible Dry Shampoo - Retail Value $22

Julep Lip Gloss in Polished - Retail value $16

Julep Gel Eye Glider - Retail Value $16

I've tried all these beauty items before thanks to my Julep Maven subscription. In general I'd say they are all pretty good and I'll use them, but I don't like them enough to buy them at full retail price. (Also kind of weird and maybe worth mentioning - the dry shampoo is supposed to come with a clear cap. I originally reviewed it in April 2013. Not sure if that bothered anyone else, but I just felt like the black cap didn't match the packaging!)

Julep Diamond Mystery Box Review - Nov 2014 Cuticle

Julep Mighty Nail & Cuticle Serum - Retail Value $28

Clean Slate Polish Corrector Pen - Retail Value $10

I was pretty excited about this polish corrector pen since it is new-to-me, but then I read the reviews on Julep that it doesn't work. Oh well!

Verdict: I think this is one of the best Mystery Boxes I've received in a while from Julep. The value is about $175, and I'm happy to see that a lot of that value is attributed to nail polish. Did you get a Diamond Mystery Box? What items did you get?

My box had almost nothing yours did. I bought it because I wanted the new diamond polishes but most of my other colors were repeats and I got foot care products, a file, topcoat and the oxygen base coat. I did the add ons too. Disappointed.

This was the first mystery box I purchased and I LOVE it!!! Aside from the 2 glitter polishes shown, I received different colors. Also my other products were different. It was almost a completely different box.

So glad you mentioned the black cap! Mine came that way too, and it bothered me so much I threw the cap away. haha

I just got 6 polishes, a lip gloss, lid primer, and an eye liner, maybe they forgot something?

I was so disappointed with the first mystery box I purchased in the summer, but I gave it another chance with the October box and loved it. So glad I did because I loved this box as well. I received seven polishes, the clean slate polish remover pump, a cuticle and hand stick, lip gloss eye gel glider, two types of eye make up brushes and an eye primer. Most of my products are from 2014 with a couple from 2013. I feel like they listened to the feedback from that terrible summer box and the last two have shown continued improvement! Love this box!

I hesitated on this and when I decided to buy it was sold out. I used to subscribe to Julep and always had received some pretty funky colors that I was unsure of. And I have soo much polish. Wish I would’ve just bought this, because I love every single polish you got!

I’m not a regular Julep subscriber, I only do the mystery boxes (Jewel Heist was my first one) and this month was an awesome box! I did all of the add ons and received the same basic box as you, PLUS
Lois
Queen Anne
Natalia
Nail File
Freedom Polymer Top Coat
Clean Slate Conditioning Nail Polish Remover
Hand & Cuticle Stick
Bare Face Cleansing Oil
Konjac Sponge
And I added Fazia for free using a code. I paid just under $75 for 10 polishes and 10 other nail, beauty and makeup items. The value is definitely there! Now I’m going to have a tough time resisting the next mystery box!

Liz, it works. But…it works best if you dip the tip in just a little polish remover.

Thanks for the tip!

I received exactly the same box as Liz’s. I’d added another polish to my order and code SHINETIME (I think that was the code?) and also was sent a sequinned quite large make up bag/tote with more products inside. The neutral eyeshadow palette and shadow brush, another lip gloss in Awestruck. There may have been another item, it did seem to be quite a good lot of products for less than $40.
After some insultingly bad Mystery boxes, this one has been very refreshing.

I went back and forth about purchasing this box, I decided not to since the last mystery box I bought in the summer was a MAJOR letdown. I am wishing I had purchased this box though. I would have loved everything in this box. If this trend continues I would be more likely to order a mystery box in the future.

Just FYI – I got an email from Julep earlier today and it seems as if they’ll be bringing back the skip a month feature. Full text from the email is:

NEW! Select “I’m out this month” and we won’t bill you or ship this month’s box (although you’ll be missing a good one).

Not new to those of us who have been around for a while, but I’m super glad they restarted this! It’s why I haven’t recommended Julep to friends as often as I used to – though I’m sure they won’t thank me for getting them addicted in the future 🙂

I agree. They should never have gotten rid of the skip feature to begin with so I am glad to see it back. I am thinking that move must have cost them a lot in having people unsubscribe/re subscribe with the $2.99ish for your first box new sub deals. Not to mention wasted customer service time and bad PR.

Now I will be more likely to recommend julep to friends again.

I’m thrilled because I’ve kept my subscription as is and haven’t customized because I didn’t want to lose my skip option. Now that I have a ridiculous Julep collection, customizing will be a great option.

Oh wow! This is great news. I was actually about to cancel as I want to cut back on my boxes in December, but now I don’t have to. Thanks for the info!

Sure! 🙂

I got Millie (blue), Michelle (dark blue), Alex (sparkly purple), and Gayle (purple) for the other polishes. I got the lipgloss in a darker pink and the same gel eye liner. I also got an angled liner brush, shader brush, and an eye primer. I was very happy with this mystery box!

I AM SO GLAD I GOT THIS BOX!
I have loved all the colors I have seen so far. I love Eliana!
I can’t wait to get mine. I haven’t even gotten shipping info yet. I tried calling but they had left for the day… I’m sure it’s on it’s way.

Mine was completely awesome too!!!! I got mine with a discount and got the gold and silver glitter nail polish (already wearing the gold!) and some different very pretty shades of purple and blue. I got a lip gloss in a darker pink shade (LOVE!), black eye liner (LOVE!), two make up brushes for the eyes (also LOVE and really needed), eye primer (awesome!) I am SUPER happy with my box especially since I got it at a discount. This is the first month I’ve been with Julep and between my jingle bells welcome box and this mystery box, I am hooked!

Liz Cadman

Yay! That sounds like a great box. They really stepped it up this month!

Vanessa

I get mine tomorrow! Can’t wait

I got 7 polishes (2 spoilers, 2 purple, 2 blue, 1 chosen with coupon code), eye primer, lip gloss, eyeliner, 2 eye shadow brushes. Couldn’t be more pleased. Also, I’m really happy I didn’t get the dry shampoo lol. I have several from sub boxes this year and rarely use it. Wish I got the nail polish remover or clean slate correcting pen since I’m out.

Sneaky Burrito

Wow, that is way better than any of the mystery boxes I ever bought.

Wow, it really is better than the mystery box I purchased last time. I skipped this was since the last one was a dud. if the next one is like this one I might give it a shot!

Yes, the last two (Halloween and Holiday) have been really good. I think they took the feedback to heart and stepped things up!
