Golden Tote Review - $149 Tote - October 2014 Tote

This month I bought two Golden Totes – a $149 tote, and a $49 tote. This review is of the $149 tote. (The $49 tote review will be coming soon!)

If you aren’t familiar with Golden Tote, here’s a really quick intro: Every month you get to pick out 1-2 pieces, and they surprise you with the rest. FYI – This is not a typical subscription, each month they release a new collection and you can decide whether or not you want to buy it.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Golden Tote Review - $149 Tote - October 2014 Bracelet

For October, Golden Tote included this Keep A Breast Foundation bracelet, and the tote itself also promotes awareness of the foundation.

Golden Tote Review - $149 Tote - October 2014 Bomber

Vegan Leather Moto Jacket by Thread & Supply – Value $75

This is one of my two picks for the $149 tote. I wasn’t positive I was going to pick this item at first, but as soon as I saw it was from Thread & Supply I knew I’d love it. I’ve received a few items from their line in previous totes, and they fit me really well and the quality is excellent.

The quality is impressive with this jacket. I love it! I went with the large even though I sometimes size down in outerwear because I was familiar with the brand, and I’m glad I did. This jacket fits snug but perfect. (And it’s still surprisingly available in all sizes if you’re interested!) If you are debating between sizes I would recommend going up a size.

(Jacket 100% Polyurethane, Lining 100% Polyester).

Golden Tote Review - $149 Tote - October 2014 Maxi

Puella Le Boheme Maxi in Black – Value $88

I tried this maxi out in the chevron print last month, and I absolutely fell in love with how easy it is to wear! Unfortunately I was shipped a medium instead of a large so I’m hoping I can still get the large since the medium is looking a little too short for me.

(95% Rayon, 5% Spandex).

Golden Tote Review - $149 Tote - October 2014 Button Sweater

Le Lis Sweater – Value $45?

At first I thought this was going to be an oversized top, but it actually fits great.

Golden Tote Review - $149 Tote - October 2014 Buttons

And I love the button detail on one side. It’s such a cozy looking piece!

(92.5% Polyester, 7.5% Rayon).

Golden Tote Review - $149 Tote - October 2014 Open Wrap

Cut + Sew by Golden Tote Open Cardigan – Value $45?

This is from Golden Tote’s own line, so it’s only available through the tote. I love this print and the colors of this wrap. If I could change anything about it I’d make it a few inches longer, but really I have no complaints.

(95% Rayon, 5% Spandex)

Golden Tote Review - $149 Tote - October 2014 Puella Wrap Dress

Priddy by Puella Wrap Dress – Value $75?

Another print I love! And I’m so happy to see that the Priddy by Puella item this month is a dress! It’s about an inch too long on me and an inch too wide in the waist, but I’ve had luck shrinking Priddy by Puella dresses in the laundry, so I think it will end up being perfect!

(95% Polyester, 5% Spandex)

Golden Tote Review - $149 Tote - October 2014 Scarf

Infinity Knit Scarf – Value $20

Since I picked out the vegan moto jacket, I should have received only 5 items total in this tote, so I’m thinking this scarf probably should have been in my $49 tote. (I only received two items in that tote). (Both totes shipped together). Or they included a bonus accessory for anyone who got a 5-item tote – I’m not sure.  Either way I love this scarf!

Verdict: Assuming I can get my Puella maxi in large, I think this will be my most successful Golden Tote yet. I love every single item and all of my surprise items are hits. If you’ve been debating about getting this tote and the vegan moto jacket – I highly recommend going for the jacket – it is so well constructed!

Which items did you pick from Golden Tote this month?

  1. I just received my tote today. I chose the black motorcycle jacket and the red plaid shirt. Oy, the sizing on them runs small. While I can zip the jacket, it is not pretty. I think losing 10lbs is in order.

I also received a scarf, but mine was a soft gray cotton with black faux leather trim. (Perhaps everyone received a scarf this month?)

I also received the Le Lis sweater but in navy. This fits well and looks nice on. I also received the open cardigan but in black & white which also looks good (though I concur with your thought that it be a bit longer).

Finally I received a black knee length sweater dress with zipper detailing. I don’t usually go for this style, but this one fits well. Overall, a success but more on their picks than my own. I hope I can lose weight just to wear the jacket, I really love it!

  2. I had to order the black maxi in large but need a medium if you want to swap when my tote comes in!

  3. I love the idea of Golden Tote, but I have not had good luck with the “mystery” items in their boxes. I must have a weird body shape or something, because it is rare that one of the extra items fits and/or looks good on me. I got this same jacket last year from a Golden Tote (I ADORE it and wear it ALL the time!!) and every single other item in the order was horrible on me. Boxy, material had a cheap feel, and almost everything was too short (I’m pretty long-waisted). I kept the tote because of the jacket, but haven’t worn a single other piece from that tote since I got it. I am contemplating buying another jacket (just to have a backup!) and it’s cheaper and a better value for me to just buy it from their boutique for $75!! I am sad that I cannot seem to get things that I like in these…it’s such a fun concept! Liz, all your items look great! It makes me jealous :oP

    • I made comments that I prefer long tunic- style tops and that’s what I got (2 tunic style tops, one maxi dress and 1cardigan). I can’t stand r when shirts r too short. They really read the comments.

  4. Thanks for sharing! I always watch fall and winter fashion from the sidelines. Its still around 90 degrees @ Puerto Rico! Its fallmmer!!! GT summer cloth is way to casual so I splurge in spring only. I
do buy some some items in the Fb trading group if I find them weather and lifestyle appropriate. However, if
I wear anything in this tote I will melt in my work commute which actually is 17 minutes!!!!! Anyhow if I lived in a place which have Fall I would totally love this cloth.

  5. I actually ordered the large black dress and need a medium ! Is there any other outlets to swap other than facebook? I do not want to have a facebook account.

  6. I didn’t purchase last month due to their computer glitches but this made me cave. I picked the moto jacket and the zippered dress in grey which is very me. I wanted the maxi but it was sold out in small 🙁 I’m excited to see what my other items are.

  7. Yay thank you for putting in the material content! It definitely helps give a better idea of value, care, etc!

  8. Question: For the $50 or $150 totes, you can keep everything or are you able to return and get another item if you don’t like the way it looks on you? Maybe it’s Stitch Fix is the one you have to pay to keep the items minus the styling fee? Sorry if that’s a dumb question. 🙂

    • It’s an all or nothing kind of thing – but there is a GT Trading Group on Facebook that’s really active so you could probably swap for things you *do* like

      • Thanks for answering. 🙂 it looks like its smarter to start at the beginning of the month since everything is picked over now.

  9. They gave out scarves or socks in the 5 item totes as a surprise, according to the FB trading group. I got the black owl sweater and the tile print maxi dress. The black maxi was sold out in medium or I would’ve gotten black. But they gave you a medium and you wanted large! Oh well. I’m excited about the maxi. Didn’t get my tote yet but I think pretty much everybody got one of the cardigans (4 colors/patterns)

  10. I got the jacket in my tote so I’m glad it is worth it. I use mediums so I’m hoping mine will fit. I wont be receiving my tote until next week and I’m nervous on what Ill get
