Cate & Chloe Subscription Box Review & 50% Off – October 2014 Box

Cate & Chloe is a monthly jewelry subscription box. Each month they send you two jewelry pieces. They used to send to classic pieces each month, but lately it seems like they are mixing it up and sending one classic piece and one "statement" piece.

Cate & Chloe kindly sent me this box to review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Cate & Chloe Subscription Box Review & 50% Off – October 2014 Info

Each box comes with a card which details each jewelry piece and it’s retail value. (I would say these retail values are inflated, but the jewelry is definitely worth the $20 a piece subscription pricing).

Adrianna "Wise" Earrings - Retail Value $115

These earrings are "encrusted in petite CZ crystals." Here is a better look:

These aren't my style, but I think my mom will love them so it's good-to-gift!

Cate & Chloe Subscription Box Review & 50% Off – October 2014 Necklace

Lorraine "Royal" Necklace - Retail Value $99

Cate & Chloe Subscription Box Review & 50% Off – October 2014 Model

I'm pretty sure the "stone" part of this necklace is plastic, but that doesn't really bother me - it's well constructed and I love a long gold necklace! The color is a little more spring/summer though, so I probably won't wear this for a while.

Verdict: I think the jewelry in this subscription is definitely worth the $40 a month cost. I'm also happy with the pieces this month - one is my style and one is my mom's style! What do you think of the October Cate & Chloe box?

I just don’t understand why people subscribe to this. For the price of the box, month after month, you could have some amazing jewelry that you love because you would pick it out yourself…and it could be real.

I make and sell unique, gorgeous beaded jewelry, and I was coming to post something real similar! 99 freaking dollars for that hideous, fake gold colored, plastic necklace? $115 for the earrings? Try $20, $10 if you’re a savvy shopper! I urge subscribers to quit this sub, and use the money to buy your jewelry from a local artist/craftsman!

I had originally planned to cancel C&C because I did not like about half the stuff I got (a lot of similar CZ looks) and I also didn’t feel that the value is there.

HOWEVER, they have really excellent CS and they not only allowed me to return the pieces I didn’t like, but they replaced them with my specific requests. Then they allowed me to send a list of specific requests for upcoming boxes, so I stayed.

Certainly the values they list are beyond inflated, but my feeling is that if you wear costume jewelry, which I often do, and you are looking to expand your collection, this is a fun way to do it. IMO their pieces are worth about $20 each so you can skip the sub and spend $40/mo choosing 2 pieces from Target or similar, or you can get 2 surprise pieces for the same amount. You’re not getting any sort of “deal” for the money (as with so may subs!) but you’re getting about $40 worth of silver plated costume jewelry for $40.

This month I got the Kendall Bright ring an the Cynthia Goddess Drop earrings — both of which were on my list of pieces I would like, so I’m quite happy! 🙂

I do think that if they had more realistic values listed, and if they stopped claiming “$200 worth of jewelry!!!”, which nobody could possibly believe, then they would be less likely to turn people off…

My first two boxes from C&C were great, the CZ studs and a nice simple CZ necklace. This one, however, just seemed really really cheap quality. I have the same necklace, but with an animal print (plastic). I am exchanging entire box for some things that I think I will like from the website. But after this, I am giving one more month only. I’d rather save up my money for Hatch.

Is the new jewelry actually made with anything that is gold or silver? Otherwise I can’t see the price of anything costing over 10 bucks

The silver is all silver plated…. there is nothing sterling. It’s definitely costume jewelry… but some is cute.

I want to know this too! Especially with Liz saying that the stone in the necklace is plastic? I this looks like cheap Clare’s jewelry!

This is another one that I temporarily halted. I like that they expanded into statement jewelry and will be looking at the reviews to see if I like them. Interesting about the similarities with the Kendra Scott necklace.

Looks like the C&C “Lorraine” necklace is a copy of Kendra Scott’s Rayne necklace.

Hmm. Kendra Scott’s is $80 and, I’m sure, an actual stone. C&C’s is $99 and plastic.

Mere coincidence! 😉

Wow – they are practically identical!

I signed up using the code posted here a few weeks ago. I’d been on the fence but was doubtful as I’m a little picky. I’m so glad I did though–my box was PERFECT! They sent me four pieces (one extra as a “welcome” gift, another as a birthday gift). Three of the pieces were pieces I listed as loving in the survey, one was one I didn’t pick but that fits my taste, and the other pieces, perfectly. I’m definitely sticking around for another month! I’m leery about the monthly sub, as neither of the pieces shown here are my style, but it’s def worth a try after my first box!

I received the Olivia “Dignity” studs, which I loved. You can’t go wrong with a simple CZ stud earring, and I can dress those up or down, depending on my outfit. My Lorraine necklace though came with a leopard/cheetah print center – which doesn’t work for me. I’m waiting to hear from them about an exchange, which will probably be a Christmas gift for my sister.

I actually like the statement piece; it’s good to see that they’re branching out. I originally quit because there was too much dainty silver/CZ stuff and I felt like a lot of the necklaces they sent me were too similar. It’s not in the budget to resubscribe for now, but I’ll definitely keep my eye on reviews to see how they change it up.

I got the same 2 items except my long necklace has a black “stone”. Their customer service is pretty amazing though, I am exchanging for a ring (just have to pay for return shipping), and they asked for specific details on why I was unhappy about the necklace so they could add to my profile.

I forgot they billed so early in the month I missed the cancellation date and of course got my worst box to date – I got some CZ flower studs which are cute but I rarely wear studs and that hideous necklace in this post. At least their customer service is great for exchanging items (although you do need to pay for return shipping, oh well). I’ll probably exchange for an item to get my sister for Christmas so the month wasn’t a complete waste of $40.

I received the same long necklace. I absolutely hated it..not my style. Mine had a black center though. It just seemed cheap. It reminded me of something I would hang off the rear view mirror in my car.
I ended up canceling. But…I do want to say that they do have awesome customer service. For two pieces, I just couldn’t justify …especially since one out of the two was always a fail for me. I know that we can send items back, but too much hassle for me.

I’m always so tempted by this box. I think I’m too picky about jewelry though and would rather pick it out myself. I go the C&C website but with the values set so high, it’s hard to rationalize spending the money on just the pieces I want.

I signed up for Cate & Chloe with the coupon you shared last month. It took me a while to find it, but I filled out their preference survey, which even asked which piece I’d love to get (I think I listed about 5!). I love everything they sent, but I’m also skeptical about the values they list. I got earrings valued at $115, a necklace at $120 and a ring worth $99. I’m swapping the earring only because they have a cushioning that is too thick for the way my lobes are pierced (though I really wish I could keep them). The problem is that inflated value may keep other swappers from asking for them. I put a note that said I don’t believe in exact value swaps, and this is a good example of why! “Value” is in the eye of the company…

All that aside, I love C&C’s jewelry and will likely keep the subscription until my husband notices the monthly $40 charge. 😉

Where do these places come up with their ‘values?’ I think both of these pieces are pretty, but if I did wear costume jewelry I wouldn’t pay more than $20 total for cz & plastic.
