BarkBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – Oct 2014 Box

BarkBox is a monthly subscription box for dogs. It’s one of our favorite subscription boxes – our dog loves it, and we’ve gifted it to dogs in our extended family as well!

BarkBox customizes your box to your dog’s size. For reference, this review is for the small size (our dog weighs 14 pounds)

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

BarkBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – Oct 2014 Info

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included.

BarkBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – Oct 2014 Promise

This month they also included a card about "Scout's Honor." This is kind of amazing - if you dog doesn't love an item in the box, just email them at [email protected], and they will send you a replacement item or give you credit to shop at barkshop.com. I'm very impressed with this new promise to customers!

BarkBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – Oct 2014 Cat

Hare of the Dog 100% Rabbit Jerky Dog Treats - Value $2

Plush Puppies Invincible Cat - Value $7

Both of these items are hits with our pup. Jerky is always a win, and this little toy has a squeaker and the size he prefers for toys!

BarkBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – Oct 2014 Ghost

Simply Fido Ghost Toy - Value $7

Superior Farm Lamb Nik-Knack Chews - Value $2.69

This ghost toy was made specifically for BarkBox subscribers. (I love that BarkBox has been doing themes each month - and the Halloween wrapping paper was a nice extra touch this month!) This toy is a crinkle toy - our dog is not a fan - but I think we'll gift it to a dog cousin since it is just so cute!

BarkBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – Oct 2014 Treats

Fruitables Skinny Minis Rotisserie Chicken Flavor Soft & Chewy Dog Treats - Value $5

Twistix Peanut & Carob Chew Treats - Value $7

We just had our annual check up and the Vet recommended getting Buckles more dental chew treats, so these Twistix arrived at a perfect time! (Also I love that BarkBox always sends Made in the USA treats!)

Verdict: This box has a value of about $31. I'm happy with the value, and I think the new "Scout's Honor" replacement item program adds a lot of value to this box. No more risk! Have you tried out the program yet? Let us know how it works if you have!

What did you and your pup think of BarkBox this month?

Wow!

I subscribed to BarkBox in the past and canceled because my dog is an aggressive chewer and I couldn’t let someone else pick out her toys. I signed up again because there was a good deal on Groupon, and was SO surprised at the new replacement guarantee!

My Halloween box included biscuits (duck), a stick to chew on (duck), the standard “smoothie” that seems to come in every box I get (carrot), a hard plastic ball-type thing (chicken flavor), and a plush squid. Every item is or will be a hit except for the plush toy, which my retriever will tear apart the moment I give it to her. I emailed the happy address and asked to exchange the un-opened item. They advised me not to send the toy back and instead donate it to a shelter! Oh and they gave me $15 for use at their store, which I already used to purchase a hard plastic toy more suited for my puppy.

GREAT deal. Good going BarkBox! Customer for life if you keep it up!!

I went to cancel my subscription because my dog is a heavy chewer, but found out they have a box for that. Just email and let them know you want the heavy chewer box from now on! We’re definitely happier as some of the toys we get last several weeks instead of several minutes.

I received the same box, except my dog loved the squid and didnt like the ball (she is older). I had the same response from Scout’s Honor and went and picked the Mummy squeaker mat. I will pass the chew ball on to my shelter, this reminded me that i have some bones and ball for them too. They need things like paper towels and cleaner so treats and toys are luxuries.

I signed up with the buy one get one free box. When I saw this review I tried to cancel, but my box had been sent. Why? Rabbits are not meat to be used for dog treats. Please please please contact barkbox and tell them this. I was so lucky not to get the rabbit meat jerky. I am a foster home for a rabbit rescue (15 years) and they are wonderful, loving pets. I dont expect others to cancel but let them know you dont want to see these in the future.

I like the box otherwise and for the $19 subscription price think it is worth it. The quality of the toys is great.

I received the October paper, ghost toy, another toy too big for my 13 pound dog, and three things to chew, (not rawhides), but same concept. My dog has never chewed anything, so I will send those on to my
granddogs. I was happy with the box, but my dog showed zero interest in anything. I am glad I did the buy one get one free coupon. After this months junk in another companies’ box, I think I am done with boxes.

I got the box for a large dog. It contained: flash and glow ball, RIP “fetcher,” rabbit jerky, doggie beef chew, cinnamon crunch bar, and pumpkin patch treats. My dog isn’t a huge ball fan, but both the toys are balls (the RIP “fetcher” is shaped like a goblin’s head and is bouncy). I may use the Scout’s Honor policy if he refuses them. I liked the theme this month.

My box is for a medium dog. I opted to add the extra toy because 2 dogs share this box. Daisy, an English Shepherd, and Bella, a Rat Terrier. The cats feel that the treats belong to them every time a box arrives. I did receive the Halloween theme paper which my 6 year old claimed. I included their prices from the card because my box is different than the review.

1. Safemade Dio de los Muertos Skull Toy – It’s vanilla scented, glows in the dark, has a treat chamber, and floats. I filled it with treats which the dogs love. $11.00

2. Hare of the Dog Rabbit Jerky Stick. It was easy to break into 2 pieces so each dog had a piece. $3

3. Wet Noses Pumpkin Biscuits. I love the packaging which is a Halloween them with a coyote howling at the moon in a graveyard with bats. Bella and the cats approved. Daisy will not eat it. $2.00.

4. American Dog Toys Flash & Glow Ball. The cats have been playing with it. I haven’t tried it with the dogs yet. $9.00

5. Snicky Snaks Cinnamon Crunch Bar. Haven’t gave it to the dogs yet. $2.00.

6. Superior Farms Venison Crepe. It’s larger than the lamb pictured in the review. Will save this later for the dogs. $8.00.

Extra Toy – A soft crinkly skull toy that Bella claimed as soon as I took it out of the box. It’s a medium size toy.

The dogs are happy with the box. The cats would like a treat similar to the skinny minis in the review because it is easier for me to share it among all. They do have yummy treats in the cupboard so all is not lost.

I didn’t get the special paper this month. I did try out the “Scouts Honor” program because we got a ball and my dog is not a ball dog. It was a light up ball from a company that we’ve gotten balls from before and have always donated or given them away. I emailed them on Thursday and have gotten absolutely no response. I plan to email again tomorrow if I don’t hear from anyone.
I usually like Barkbox, but this month I was really disappointed. We got an extra toy that I did not sign up for, and we got virtually no treats. (3 toys in total that my dog is not interested in) 🙁

I too received the light up ball and was contemplating contacting them. It is not a huge deal, but the ball seems like a toy for a cat, not a dog. Luckily my dog isn’t a chewer but if you have a chewer the ball feels as though it would crack easily and it is too large for my medium dog to even put I her mouth without having to clench down, which would crack the thing. Just seems like the dog is supposed to only use it’s paws to play with it ala a cat toy. I love barkbox so this ball isn’t a deal breaker but it is certainly odd.

This box looks great! I was subscribed to BarkBox on a 6-month deal, but chose not to renew b/c of the price & the fact that my dog is SO picky about treats & doesn’t play with toys much (on the plus side, I’m building up a nice bag of toys/treats to donate to my town’s animal shelter) Now that they’ve instituted this replacement policy, I’m definitely resubscribing the next time there’s a great coupon code offered!
