Trunk Club Review – Men’s Clothing Subscription Service

Trunk Club Review - Men's Clothing Subscription Service Box

Trunk Club is a men’s stylist box similar to Stitch Fix. (It’s not a monthly subscription though – you can schedule your boxes as frequently as you like).

Unlike Stitch Fix (the women’s stylist service), there is no upfront stylist fee. You sign up and you get a call from your stylist. (My husband kind of hated that part since we are the type of people who prefer to do all things online if possible, but it wasn’t that bad.) He let the stylist know what kind of clothing he was looking for (casual – we both work from home).

She then sent him a link with the items she had picked out for him. He had 24 hours to reject any item he definitely didn’t want, and then the rest would ship. This was a great feature because there were a few items that definitely weren’t for him, so he was able to prevent them from shipping them only for him to ship them right back.

And then the Trunk Club box arrived a day or two later via FedEx!

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

Trunk Club Review - Men's Clothing Subscription Service Polo

Ralph Lauren Long Sleeve Mock Button Neck Sweater – Cost to Keep $165

I should mention before we get too far into this review that Trunk Club sends out high-end and high-price pieces. I’ve been encouraging my husband to try out this service for over a year but he was hesitant about the prices. I used the argument I use with myself and StitchFix – if you absolutely LOVE a piece and you’ll wear it a lot, then it’s worth the cost. If not – send it back!

This sweater ended up going back. It was a super soft knit, but just didn’t fit right.

Trunk Club Review - Men's Clothing Subscription Service Waffleknit

Vince Thermal Pull Over Henley – Cost to Keep $165

This item was a little snug as well so it went back. One thing we learned going from American Eagle to higher-end fashion brands is that the sizing is a little smaller. If you’re debating what size to request from Trunk Club, I recommend sizing up.

Trunk Club Review - Men's Clothing Subscription Service Sweater

Gant Rugger The Boucle Crew Neck Sweater – Cost to Keep $185

This was one of the items my husband wasn’t sure about when he got to preview the items online. Turns out – just not his style.

Trunk Club Review - Men's Clothing Subscription Service Hoodie

Original Max’s Garments OMG Hoodie – Cost to Keep $118

Isn’t amazing when $118 starts to look cheap compared to the other items in this box? My husband loved this hoodie, but couldn’t justify keeping it at this price point since he already has a ton of hoodies. (His hoodie collection rivals my maxi collection!)

Trunk Club Review - Men's Clothing Subscription Service Cardigan

Quinn Aaron Double Layered Placket Henley – Cost to Keep $295

This sweater was a good pick style-wise for Eric – the henley neckline keeps it from being too formal. It was another item that was just a little too snug though so it went back.

Trunk Club Review - Men's Clothing Subscription Service Pants

Rag & BoneRB15X 5 Pocket Twill – Cost to Keep $195

While a lot of the tops weren’t a good fit, the pants were a lot easier to get right. These pants were a keeper!

Trunk Club Review - Men's Clothing Subscription Service Dark Jeans

Fidelity 5011 Denim – Cost to Keep $179

We sent this jeans back since Eric picked out the next pair of Fidelity jeans:

Trunk Club Review - Men's Clothing Subscription Service Denim

Fidelity 5011 Denim – Cost to Keep $198

Trunk Club Review - Men's Clothing Subscription Service Jeans

DL1961 Russell Slim Straight Denim – Cost to Keep $168

Slim fit doesn’t work for my husband – these went back too.

Trunk Club Review - Men's Clothing Subscription Service Shoe Box

J Shoes Civil Washed Canvas – Cost to Keep $104

Trunk Club Review - Men's Clothing Subscription Service Shoes

These shoes were a hit. And a bargain compared to the other price points in this box! 🙂

Verdict: We ended up keeping three items in this trunk. After getting over the initial sticker shock of prices, and realizing these are really high quality pieces, my husband absolutely loved this service. The Trunk Club site is really easy to use to give feedback on all of your items, and they make shipping back your items super easy (and free). You just schedule a pickup from FedEx.

So in summary, this is a high-cost box, but it also is a very high-end service. I also like that there is zero cost for the whole experience – just pay for what you want to keep.

What do you think of Trunk Club?

  1. So the box isn’t just 50 a month it’s also priced with what clothes you get

  2. We hated it. We got it as a gift and ordered the first trunk… Prices were obscene and we couldn’t justify so much money for a pair of chinos or a sweater… Plus my husband already has great style. This is best for rich young men who need to be told how to dress or hate shopping.

Do NOT do their bespoke service. He wasted a day of his time getting measured, then they forgot the fabric book he requested, tweed, then said they won’t be coming back to Atlanta, that he’d have to fly to NYC to get it fitted. Wasted our time and couldn’t deliver.

Customer service was abysmal. Never again.

  3. Thanks for reviewing Trunk Club, I was thinking about it but the prices are just too much for me. Seems like a good service, I would be back to it if I were making more money.

  4. I am always excited to see what comes in these style subscription boxes, but it’s just not for me. Especially with this one – the prices are insane. I shop Nordstrom, Lord & Taylor and Macys all the time and get the same brands for a fraction of the price with coupons/sales. I guess the whole point is you don’t have to go to the mall and find things for yourself, but that’s what makes shopping so fun. I know I’m in the minority on this but I just can’t get into subscription clothing boxes.

  5. This is a Chicago based company and living in Chicago I know a lot about them. Before they became as big a deal nationally, they did a lot to up the fashion for men right here in Chicago. Many of my male friends here and around the country use it and have found a great deal of luck. The people that work there are really well trained as stylists, and understand that many men don’t like to go shopping so give them a good online experience and, they’ll likely choose that option. Nordstrom just acquired them for like $300 Million a couple of months ago… so they’re not going anywhere and that likely means that their brands and distribution will continue to get even better. Additionally Nordstrom is very intense about customer service so while they are keeping Trunk Club a separate business, they wouldn’t have acquired a company without excellent customer service standards.

    • Thank you for sharing all of that! My husband and I shop at Nordies a lot, mainly because we love good customer service and they’ve never let us down. Although the pieces sent were pricey, there was a really good selection sent and I love that there is no styling fee! I’m thinking about trying this out for my husband but I really, really wish that they had a similar service for women. This looks so much better than Stitch Fix!
