Golden Tote Review - September

Well, this month I splurged on Golden Tote and bought two of their $149 totes. (I'll be posting the review of the other tote soon). Something about new fall clothes was just hard to resist this month!

If you aren’t familiar with Golden Tote, here’s a really quick intro: Every month you get to pick out 1-2 pieces, and they surprise you with the rest. FYI – This is not a typical subscription, each month they release a new collection and you can decide whether or not you want to buy it.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

The Box: Golden Tote

The Cost: $49 or $149 (This review is of the $149 box)

The Products: Clothing items you pick plus surprises from Golden Tote!

Ships to: Everywhere! Shipping to the continental US $7.95. AK HI $15 and international is $25

Golden Tote Review - September 2014 Slouchy Cardigan

Lulumarie Slouchy Cardigan - Value $50?

(I can't find this cardigan on their site any more so I'm guessing the value).

This was one of my 2 picks for this tote. It's super big. I usually wear a medium/large, and I'm swimming in it.(It was one-size-fits-all). It is super cozy though, and I know the look is oversized, so I'll be pairing it with skinny jeans to balance out the look. (It's a little voluminous at the waist, which I hate, so hopefully I can shrink it a little in the laundry, or I'll just wear it open).

Also, this is one of those sweaters that can either look really chic if styled right, or can venture into Cosby-sweater territory!

Golden Tote Review - September 2014 Sweater

Skies Are Blue Jacket Sweater - Value $50?

(Again, this item sold out as well, so I'm guessing the value since I can't find the listing on the site).

I was originally planning on buying this in a large, but it was sold out before I could place my order and I went with medium. I'm glad I ended up sizing down since I wanted this jacket to be a little more fitted. It looks a little boxy on the mannequin but looks flattering on. (It's another item that I will be OK with if it shrinks a little in the laundry!)

Now time for my surprise items:

Golden Tote Review - September 2014 Tee

Color Thread Tee - Value $30?

Just when I think it is time for me to size down in Golden Tote and only buy mediums, this top shows up! It's a large and fits perfectly. I love the sheer plaid trim, and plan on layering this with a cozy sweater!

Golden Tote Review - September 2014 Pants

Priddy by Puella Pants - Value $45?

I know slouchy pants are very in right now, but I was a little disappointed to get these in my tote since Golden Tote included such a similar Priddy item in the June tote. These pants have the faux leather waistband, but I would have preferred a completely new and unique Priddy item!

Golden Tote Review - September 2014 Sweatshirt

Hem & Thread Top - Value $40?

I love a top that makes sweatshirt material an acceptable outfit, and I'm happy to see no fitted waist either!

Golden Tote Review - September 2014 Floral

Paper Crane Tunic - Value $50?

Another loose flow-y top! (This tends to be the trend with Golden Tote. I guess I should stop mentioning I'm going to pair an item with skinny jeans, because I think that goes for every item).

I like the print and colors of this top - I think it works as a fall floral look.

Verdict: This Tote was a win for me, but I'll probably end up sharing the Priddy pants with my mom since I already have my pair from June. What do you think of the Golden Tote surprise items this month?

Liz, did you wash the black cozy cardigan? I was wondering if it shrank at all.

I haven’t gotten a chance to wash it yet – sorry!

Hi Liz,

When will you be posting your second GT? I’m physched to see what you received. I ordered 2 $149 totes as well but they have not shipped yet.

I am so happy that the medium in the sweater jacket fits you and is even a bit roomy. I had the same problem and ended up ordering it in medium because the large sold out before I could grab it. I was hoping it would be a roomy medium and glad to hear that it is.

I am really psyched to receive my totes soon. I ordered two $49 and a single $149. I am tempted to get another $49 tote, but I may wait to see what I got, but so far the surprises are looking good.

I was kind of on the fence about the first sweater above because it did remind me of an 80s Cosby sweater, but I kind of like it and can imagine it would be great for cold days at home. I will have to see how it looks on others with the same type of figure as me.

I do the 2 day shipping now too, but I won’t get my tote until probably next Wednesday – I hope!

It does seem like the larges sell out pretty fast – maybe they should consider stocking more larges.

I can’t believe that first sweater is one size only! It would be huge on me! It is pretty cute though.

Is there any more information about the Color Thread Tee? I love that shirt so much!

Hi Liz. You always get some great items from Golden Tote which influenced me to buy my first one this month. Will you consider including a couple of pics of you actually wearing a piece or outfit you’ve received?

I would suggest that you join the Golden Tote trading group on Facebook to see people posting photos of themselves with the clothes. There are tons of pictures and people are very warm, supportive and inviting. There are women in all shapes, sizes, heights, and age groups that post photos and they will often times answer questions about fit etc.

Its also a great place to trade GT clothes and pick up some GT clothes that you missed out on.

Thanks, I will check that out.

I want the Hem & Thread Sweatshirt!! I don’t do Golden Tote because I’m too particular. But, I LOVE that sweatshirt! Can you buy individual pieces?

I would check on this blog’s swap page for GT clothes and also the Golden Tote Trading Group on Facebook to purchase pieces – it will be at about the GT prices and a lot cheaper than buying elsewhere (if you can find it) and the surprise pieces are never sold in their boutique.

Thanks!

The slouchy cardigan was on the Golden Tote site for $45 described as a favorite cozy cardigan. I ordered it and the sheer sleeve tweed blouse.

(i found it in my notes for the sale.)

My tote is supposed to arrive on the 17th, I’m so curious what my other items will be.
