GlossyBox Review & Coupon – August 2014

GlossyBox Review & Coupon - August

GlossyBox is a monthly beauty subscription box. They have the best packaging in the business, their products are usually deluxe-size or full size, and the value is usually really good too. The only issue with this box seems to be the late shipping – I would recommend just keeping that in mind and setting your expectations accordingly if you sign up for this box.

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

GlossyBox Review & Coupon - August 2014 Info

This month's box marks their 3-year anniversary, and the box and card are a little different. The card details each item included.

GlossyBox Review & Coupon - August 2014 Sparitual

Eslor Firming Collagen Day Cream - .34 oz Value $17.50

SpaRitual Nail Polish in Navigate - FULL SIZE! Value $12

I've received Eslor in subscription boxes before, but only in foil packet samples, so it's nice to have a decent sized skincare sample to try. And I love the SpaRitual nail polish formula, I just wish I had received a color I would wear a lot! (This blue shimmer color is gorgeous, just not a color I think I can pull off).

GlossyBox Review & Coupon - August 2014 Shampoo

Uberliss Shampoo and Conditioner - 2 oz each Value $8

This haircare line is new to me, and I like that the products are sulfate free!

GlossyBox Review & Coupon - August 2014 Highlighter

Krynolan for GlossyBox Highlighter in Cashmere - FULL SIZE! Value $19

eyeko Skinny Mini Liquid Eyeliner - mini size Value $8

These items were the two spoilers for the box this month and I like them both! The highlighter has a really nice cream consistency that helps give a dewy look, and the eye liner is pretty easy to use - I've found you have to apply a decent amount of pressure though to get a solid black line.

Verdict: This month's box has a value of about $65. I'm very happy with the value and I think the mix of items is good too - makeup, nail polish, haircare and skincare! There isn't one item in this box that I'm overly excited about, but I'll use everything so it's a great box for me.

What do you think of the August GlossyBox?

I am new to sub boxes. I use nioxin due to my hair needs, what should I do when I get shampoos but still want my review points? Is there any way to NOT get shampoos?

No customization here. You will get what everybody gets. ..
In reviews just write something… you will still get points

Just make stuff up. They can’t tell the difference. And it won’t change what’s in your box, anyway.

Pssshhh. I shouldn’t have to email them to ask what the heck is going on when they have $42 of my money. (Not to mention the fact that I actually canceled my subscription after 3 weeks of no response from their customer service and shouldn’t have been charged for September in the first place.)

Thanks for writing!

We experienced some delays with our August boxes due to product backorders. Your August box will be shipping today or tomorrow. The September box will be shipping in a couple of weeks.

We have added 200 Glossydots to your account for the inconvenience you have experienced. Hopefully, this helps a little!

The only reason I shy away from glossybox is dreaded customer service reviews. Three are only a few products I’m interested in here. The highlighter and firming day cream are the two I like. Still worth it for those two items alone but customer service I hear is really lacking. Try and contact them on facebook. I heard that is the best way to get through to them. 🙂

They do not respond on Facebook! I sent 2 messages, then posted on their wall. They gave a generic comment that I needed to send a message! Gah! I’m going around in circles!

Arg! Received my box and it was a mess-shampoo, conditioner and nail polish all leaked. GlossyBox customer service is awful. I’ve tried to call more than once and just get a recording that no agents are available and I can leave a message but then it just hangs up. Sooo annoying. Sent emails-again no response. Not until I left a Facebook comment did I get anywhere. Was told they would send out a replacement box ASAP. Nothing. No notice that it shipped, nothing on the account dashboard. Had to go through the entire rigmarole again. Finally received an email that the box had shipped Sept 2….and haven’t got it yet. Garg.

I just got my Glossybox today. I got exactly the same thing, except for my SpaRitual polish is in the color North Star… a purple-y blue color with pink shimmer. It is stunning. Overall very happy with my box this month. I had thought of canceling this sub, but I think I’ll hang onto it for another month…

I just got my box yesterday, I’m a current subscriber, I’m not sure how they choose to ship but I always get mine late.

That being said I’m also a little dissapointed that some boxes had a $12 polish and others had a $5 one. I’m okay with variation but I think they should be of the same value. Receiving a item lesser makes the box seem less luxurious than the others.
I think if the box isn’t a customizable one then all subscribers should get the same value in their box.
I’m okay with Birchbox and Wantable since those are customizable boxes and I don’t expect them to contain the same value for everyone. However atleast with BB everyone gets $5 back on their box in points!

I just wish glossy box had given everyone the same value in each items if their are differences. That’s just my opinion tho.

I used the coupon code last month, as this was my first Glossybox. I think it was for EYEKO mascara? It didn’t come with my box! Bummer! But overall as it is my first box. I’m happy and will continue until.

Contact glossybox. That happened to me in July I was supposed to get a full size nioxin diamax. They sent it!

Ugh! I signed up on August 1st and I’m still waiting for my box! lol

My first month was super slow. Now I am in one of the earlier groups to receive them. No idea what changed, because I have a 12-month subscription. But maybe it will get better for you!

Hey all- my eyeliner was dry and found that getting in touch w glossybox through a Facebook message is wayyyyy faster than waiting for an email response- 2 days or so vs possibly never. I loved this month just fab. 🙂

Vanessa

Unfortunately, I have not yet gotten my box! I am disappointed and I am an obsessive glossy box fan!!! ;(

My August box hasn’t even shipped yet but if it’s the same as this, it’ll be going up for swaps!

Reply ButtonReply

Theresa

I opened the box this month, and decided it’s just not for me. It’s a sad day when I can’t find anything I love in a subscription box! So, my entire Glossybox is listed in the swap section, if anyone wants it! 🙂

Tried the highlighter on the corner of my eyes and love it–works better than others I tried! I’ll try out the shampoo & conditioner tomorrow. Eyeliner is going up for swap (don’t use black) along with the face cream (scent too strong, as mentioned earlier). Nail polish looks great!

My shampoo leaked all over my box too! I emailed customer service and they said they will ship out a new sample.

They day cream smelled so strong to me – like a grandma. I decided to try it anyway, hoping the smell would fade, but a couple of hours later my husband kissed me and was repulsed by the smell. Well, won’t be using that again!

Sad the eyeko liner is made in China!

Reply ButtonReply

Erin

A vast majority of cosmetics are made in China. Even product lines that you’d never expect. Almost all companies use cheaper Far East manufacturers.

Reply ButtonReply

Sneaky Burrito

Or, even if the products, themselves, aren’t made in China, a lot of the ingredients are sourced from there.

Christine

I was happy with everything, have only tried the liner so far and it makes a nice thin line but I have to press pretty hard to get it dark. I did not get the bonus Eyeko mascara I had used the code for, but I sent an email and got a pretty quick reply that they will be sending it. Wondering if anyone else got/didn’t get the mascara. If you did, was it worth it? Is Glossybox good about sending missing items? I have cancelled the scrip because I just wanted the anniversary box, so I hope they will still send out that mascara.

I’ve always had an extremely positive experience with glossys customer service. I had an item from a few boxes back arrive damaged and they sent a replacement immediately that I received in a few days. I’m sure you’ll get a replacement quick!

Lynne

I tried the day cream the day that it arrived. The fragrance is so overpowering and reminds me of something my mother would use. I got a headache because of the smell, so I won’t be using it again.

Daphne

Agreed!

Reply ButtonReply

lily

glad you posted this, i’m so sensitive to smell, I wont bother opening this now.

Reply ButtonReply

Jill

Agreed about the smell! I lifted up the corner a tiny bit to smell it, and it was way too floral. Why do so many brands have to make facial products strongly scented like that? Though the worst to me is when lipstick tastes like perfume–ugh!

Michelle

I got my box awhile ago and my shampoo had leaked all over everything! Emailed customer service but got no reply:( I would have liked this box otherwise.

Kathy

The same thing happened to me when I opened my box this morning. The lid was completely off my shampoo bottle. Everything is covered. No reply to my email yet so I will call tomorrow morning.

Sara

I haven’t gotten a response yet at all either. I saw someone else had already gotten a response though.

Nora

I got the cheapo red polish and I really wish I’d gotten the SpaRitual. Other than that this box is okay… but just okay. I’m used to getting spoiled by Boxycharm and Allure, and Glossybox has kind of fallen out of favor with me.

I got the blue too!! It’s called Navigate. I was at first a little sad I didn’t get that beautiful dark purple, but I put it on and added a little silver sparkle and it’s amazing. Almost matches my jeans. It will look pretty will my popsugar fall style scarf!! So happy.

Reply ButtonReply

Jill

I got the blue and love it! Haven’t tried it on yet, but seems like a great fall color.

Reply ButtonReply

Heather

I love that Blue Liz!! I got Trillion Dollar red (I never wear reds). 🙁

They also changed the actual boxes this month – not the outside one, but the pink inside one. They’re a little less nice than they used to be. I’ve subscribed to GB for quite a while now, but this is my last box. For now at least. I have so many products I need to work through, the last thing I need to do is add to my stash.

Reply ButtonReply

Blessedmommi

I like how this month and last month include more deluxe size items. This was my last month since I found previous boxes to have tiny samples. I haven’t even had a chance to use much of them. But if future items continue to be on the larger end I may rejoin!

I think the blue nail polish you got, it very pretty. I received a gorgeous red, my fave color so I’m happy 🙂

Reply ButtonReply

lily

I just got an email with tracking 🙂 – I try not to pay attention to when any of my boxes ship, unless they are over 1 month behind.

Oh no, not blue nail polish. Ughh …. Maybe I can decorate it with snow flakes, that is my only thought on what to do with it.

Shampoo and Conditioner, great for traveling. I wont use the eyeliner, so that I will be swapping. Highlighters are always fun. Yet on occassion I’ve accidently put to much on, until later I find out I’m glowing.

WOW the value is low this month compared to other months. Hope it is better next month.

Based on this review, I’m not that excited to get my box. Yet this one of those boxes, I wont cancel because I like opening the box, they always have it packaged so nicely, and opening a glossy box is part of the fun. First box impressions can make an okay box, a better box.

Sneaky Burrito

Wow, I got mine more than a week and a half ago.

I didn’t get the SpaRitual polish, though. I got the Precision polish. It had a lower retail value but I got a dark purplish/red/magenta sort of color that I really like, and it was fairly long lasting. So I’m OK with that.

The highlighter is darker than my skin so I may not get much use out of that! Will swap in the day cream once I use up the tube of pur-lisse I’m on.

Agree the packaging is good. We had a baby shower at work, recently, and I reused a Glossybox to pack the gift in. The mother-to-be commented on how nice the box was!

Like you, my box arrived almost 12 days ago. And I never get mine early. I guessing that most of those still waiting ordered mid month and weren’t current subscribers. I got the same polish brand but in a gorgeous fuchsia. I loved how well it covered, as in one coat only needed. I couldn’t care less about the value. I picked up a bunch of Spa Ritual polishes at a spa in Scottsdale last month so this was a good thing. You weren’t kidding when you said you’re fair skinned! If the Kryolan highlighter is darker than your natural skin tone, then you really must have a hard time with face products in sub boxes. Unless of course there were more than just the one shade they sent. I feel for you. But you’ll look younger than your years forever so there’s that 🙂
