BarkBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – Sept

BarkBox is a monthly subscription box for dogs. It’s one of our favorite subscription boxes – our dog loves it, and we’ve gifted it to dogs in our extended family as well!

BarkBox customizes your box to your dog’s size. For reference, this review is for the small size (our dog weighs 14 pounds)

My Subscription Addiction pays for this subscription. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes).

BarkBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – Sept 2014 Card

Lately BarkBoxes have a theme (which I love). This month is inspired by back-to-school college football!

BarkBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – Sept 2014 Info

On the flip side of the card each item included is detailed.

BarkBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – Sept 2014 Pawxford

Pawxford Pennant Toy - Value $5

Loopies Letterman Jacket Toy - Value $10

These toys were made exclusively for BarkBox subscribers and they are so cute! (Of course I like them more than our dog Buckles does (he seems to prefer the stuffed animals that come in Nerd Block and aren't supposed to be for dogs!)

BarkBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – Sept 2014 Yumzies

Yumzies Jerky Burgers BBQ Duck - Value $8

Etta Says Duck Chew - Value $3

I'm always so impressed with the quality of treats BarkBox includes. (Everything seems to be either made in the US or Canada). These Jerky Burgers were a hit with our pup but he surprisingly rejected the duck chew!

BarkBox Subscription Box Review & Coupon – Sept 2014 Indigo

Indigo Smokehouse Strips - Value $7

First, this package gets the award for best "Made in the USA" imagery! Our dog absolutely loves these treats, and they smell exactly like bacon! (FYI - you have to refrigerate these treats after opening them, or use them within 3 days).

Verdict: This box has a value of about $33. It's good for the monthly price, but a lot better if you subscribe to the 6-month or 12-month plan. (That's what we do). What did you think of the September BarkBox? What was your pup's favorite toy or treat?

I’m late giving any feedback, but i still thought i should. I signed up for the BOGO offer starting with October. Initially, I was disappointed that there wasn’t a plush toy in the box. I didn’t think my old rottie would play with either of these rubbery and plastic toys, but to my surprise he likes the vanilla skull toy! I can’t say the same for the light up ball. I tried tossing it around, rolling it. He hardly gives it a glance. He liked all the treats ok (he normally gets carrots), but the rawhide jerky thing hurt his teeth so bad he whimpered, so I took it away.

We want to get this but have 3 dogs! Two small and one Large dog, so not sure which box to get! Any suggestions?

It is a really great box and you could probably make it work well if you register your small dog/s and give the big stuff to your big dog. Why I say that is- I get stuff for medium/large dogs in my box. I have rcvd 3 boxes now and registered my 5lbs dog. I get 2 small/med size stuffed toys which are always a awesome and 3-4 types of treats.
I keep getting rawhides or rawhide & Jerky type treats. my dog barely can eat a hard cookie type treats. I have reviewed my box and have voiced this every time. This month they gave a card that said they will replace something your dog hates it. I am going to email them about the stuff in the last box I cannot use and see if they send me a replacement. Depending on results I may cancel. I just started on Petbox which you can pick your items. It’s not a curated box and you get fewer items so I am not sure its going to be the replacement I am looking for. But I can pick.
So bottom line I think it’s worth giving Barkbox a try it is a great box. I like getting it almost more than the boxes for me. Having a toy size dog just makes it difficult for me to find the right treats.

Has anyone tried this, or PetBox, with a large size dog? My fear is they would send me things that won’t last 2 minutes or my dog will choke on.

This was my pup’s first box and he liked all the the items. We got the medium size box. He liked the hide a treat football as well. We have a bit of a chewer in our family, so toys usually don’t last that often! 🙂 We are pleased so far.

I received for a medium dog:

1. Football Treatball
2. Etta Says Duck Chew
3. Muddy Buddy Dog Mop
4.Safemade Pet Pawxford Pennant
5. Nootle Jerky Burger BBQ Duck

The dogs and cats loved it! I’m thinking about buying another football and the Jerky Burger BBQ Duck.

FYI

PetBox is on sale on Groupon. 1-, 3-, or 6-Month Customizable Deluxe Subscription to PetBox (Up to 50% Off).

$11.99 for a 1-month deluxe box subscription ($19.95 value)
$32.99 for a 3-month deluxe box subscription ($59.85 value)
$59.99 for a 6-month deluxe box subscription ($119.70 value)

I’m thinking about it but I’ve never used Groupon. I guess there is a first time for everything.

Thanks, Helen! After reading a few reviews, I am going to give it a shot. 🙂 And btw, Groupon is great. They have really good customer service if anything ever goes wrong.

oh interesting, I will look for a review from Liz. Anyone with a Toy size get this box? I would love to get some opinions from you. I have a 5lbs. Maltipoo I have to be quite picky about what he gets.

I also got the Pawxford toy, the duck treats and duck chew, but included in my medium dog box was a rubber football that has holes in it and opens in the middle. You put the duck treats inside and the dogs are able to push down on one end of the football and sort of twist it open and get the treats out! My dogs loved it so much, I used the card and ordered another one with their text message service right away, along with another bag of the duck treats! It was the first time I’d used that service they offer, and it was so easy — just text the code, then how many you want, and they text back with the order number, and final price. It’s a flat $5 shipping and they ship the very next day!

Thank you for posting about how the text service works. My dogs love their duck treats.

I had contemplated Bark Box but thanks to Liz I discovered Pet Box and have been extremely pleased. My dog is so excited when she sees the box and loves everything inside. Just signed up for a year subscription.

We got this same exact box for my 5 lb Chi, and he loves it all! I hope I can find another amazing BarkBox deal because this was the last of our 6-month subscription. 🙁

Last year they had a big discount around Black Friday, it was posted on this website. I’m hoping they offer it again. Bark Box also had a big discount for tax day which is when I signed up for six months!

I got my amazing deal in February or March. So I’m going to do PetBox (great deal) and hope for another awesome deal on BarkBox.

The toys are adorable and so perfectly in line with a fall theme! My shiba inu-husky mix is weird about “exotic” flavors, too. And for a while he deemed peanuts butter exotic, lol.

Wendy

I got the same exact box for the “tiny” dog version (she’s 8 pounds). I’m a little bit disappointed about that…my girl loved everything in the box though, so she gets it again next month! Lol

Were you hoping for bigger or smaller toys, Wendy?
