GQ Quarterly Subscription Box Review #GQQ01 Box

I had a few requests to review the GQ Quarterly box, and part of me was secretly hoping that it would be the men's version of the Nina Garcia box, so I gladly signed up for this subscription!

GQ Quarterly Subscription Box Review #GQQ01 Packaging

At first look it's packaged very well, and I can already tell before I see the contents that this box is full of scented items!

GQ Quarterly Subscription Box Review #GQQ01 Letter

Each Quarterly box comes with a letter from the curator detailing the items included and why they were selected. This is their first box, and the theme is inspired by "The GQ Smell-Better-Than-Ever Tool Kit" article from the June 2014 issue.

GQ Quarterly Subscription Box Review #GQQ01 Cologne

Santa Maria Novella's Carta D'Amenia Burning Papers - Value $28

Fulton & Roark Solid Cologne in Tybee - Value $42

These burning papers are meant to freshen up areas like the bathroom, and last for about 5 minutes after you light them. (To use it you fold it into an accordion shape, light one end, blow it out and then it will burn down like incense).

This solid cologne is a very clean scent, and the metal slide container is pretty slick too.

GQ Quarterly Subscription Box Review #GQQ01 Candle

Aedes De Venustas Candle - Value $80 (FYI - there is a 6.8 oz version of this candle for $85, and a 6.2 oz version for $70, so I'm estimating on the value of this 6.5 oz one)

While this is a masculine scent, I really like it for the home - and the purple glass container is elegant too.

GQ Quarterly Subscription Box Review #GQQ01 Shampoo

BVLGARI Aqua Amara Shampoo - Value $38

We pretty much only use BVLGARI bath and body products when we get stay at nice hotels, so I think this is the first time I've seen what a full size bottle looks like! It's definitely a nice treat, but not something I could see buying for regular use!

GQ Quarterly Subscription Box Review #GQQ01 Samples

Le Fin Du Monde by Etat Libre d'Orange - 3 ml total Value $5

Verdict: I'm impressed with the first GQ Quarterly box - it's definitely the high-end quality I would expect. We paid $100 for this box and received about $195 worth of products. The value is there, and I think it's a nice splurge luxury box - just like Nina's in a way. I'm interested to see what the next box will include - I'm hoping they mix it up with some fashion and home items.  Also, it's just nice to see another great subscription box for men!

What do you think of the first GQ Quarterly box?

This box actually let me down big time as a fan of GQ. I was excited when they announced their partnership with Quarterly but a $100 box of scents is not what I expected. Give me a tie bar, something argyle, or some gucci shades that make me look like James Franco. I definitely don’t need burning papers and a $70 candle though. Hope the next box steps it up.

Thank you for doing this review. This seem like a great subscription and something I would buy for gifts and I love that they have themes, the only down side of their first month is what if there is a guy that’s not into highly scented stuff.

Sneaky Burrito

I didn’t notice that the first time. Wow, that’s like a week’s worth of groceries or 2-3 tanks of gas for my car.

I’m so grateful for this review. While this would appeal to a man who enjoys scent products’ there isn’t much else in there except shampoo. It’s definitely not what I hoped to see. Then again, neither was Nina Garcia’s box.
