Untoxicating Beauty Subscription Box Review - May

Untoxicating Beauty is a new eco-friendly beauty subscription box. Unlike other boxes that send a variety of brands each month, Untoxicating Beauty sends out several products from one eco-friendly brand each month. It’s a little riskier if you don’t like the brand, but if you do – it can be a great value, and a great way to discover new brands!

The Subscription Box: Untoxicating Beauty

The Cost: $35 (Pay via PayPal)

The Products: Organic and eco-friendly skincare and beauty products.

Ships to: US Only.

Check out all my Untoxicating Beauty reviews and the Eco Susbcription Box Directory for similar boxes!

Untoxicating Beauty Subscription Box Review - May 2014 Info

Each box comes with a letter detailing the brand featured in the box and why it is “untoxicating.” This month they are featuring Vered.

Untoxicating Beauty Subscription Box Review - May 2014 Items

Vered Introductory Kit - Value $68

At first look, I was a little disappointed - at $35 a box I expect to see a full size item or two.  This is Vered's introduction to their organic bontanical line, and it is supposed to last 2 weeks.

Untoxicating Beauty Subscription Box Review - May 2014 Samples

Signature Body Oil

Muscle Soothing Body Oil

Rosewood Neroli Body Oil

These all smell wonderful and natural, but my favorite scent is the Signature Body Oil. These samples will definitely not last me two weeks each, but I think the three of them combined will.

Untoxicating Beauty Subscription Box Review - May 2014 scrub

Herb-Infused Toner

Therapeutic Balancing Face Oil

le Chocolate Citrus Foaming Face Wash

(I added that quarter to the picture to best show the size of these samples). I absolutely love the scent of the chocolate citrus scrub - but again I don't see it lasting two weeks - probably 3 uses if I'm lucky.

Untoxicating Beauty Subscription Box Review - May 2014 Skincare

Anti-Aging Treatment Face Oil

Anti-Wrinkle Eye Treatment

Verdict: Just like with the latest No More Dirty Looks Quarterly box, I'm a little torn on how to feel about this box. On one hand this organic brand is completely new to me, and so far I've loved all the samples I've tried, but on the flip side even though the value is much more than what I paid, it still doesn't feel great to only get samples and no full size products.

What did you think of the May Untoxicating Beauty Box?

Jessica at Untoxica

Hi Liz and ladies – I wanted to respond to some of the comments here if that is okay!

First, Liz, I so appreciate your honest and thoughtful review of our boxes this year! Your feedback and reactions help us to improve our boxes, so I hope you will keep the candid reviews coming! We will work hard to earn your good reviews!

Second, I wanted to address the issue of the value of the boxes we send out, in case it helps ladies decide if they want to subscribe. May’s box contained a Vered Botanicals Introductory Kit that retails for $68 plus shipping. Our subscribers got it for $35 and free shipping. So it was a huge value, even though the vials were small.

Our goal at Untoxicating Beauty is to introduce our subscribers in a thoughtful way to small batch, boutique brands that are creating beautiful products that are also good for you. The point of our boxes is to introduce our subscribers to brands they may not know, so they can try them without having to purchase an expensive full-sized item first.

While we are focused on curating beautiful brands, we strive to provide great value with each box, which we have done so far (if you look at the retail value of each).

Our next box for June has full-sized and travel products (the retail value of this coming box is $64), but we do also send out all sample or travel sizes in some boxes, depending on what is available from the brand. We assure you that with each box, you will get a great value and a chance to discover a truly special brand each month!

We are a very small and new company, and we love your feedback and will take the comments here very seriously!

We hope you all will consider giving us a chance to win you over. We are only going to improve with time!

Warm regards,
Jessica Eaves Mathews, founder

I’m looking forward to this box. It’s actually a $68 sample kit on their site, and its nice to get to sample such a high end line to try before you buy. 🙂

i liked what you got last month and nearly signed up, but hesitated for some reason… now i’m glad i did! i would have been very disappointed to get this box. i think i’ll look into saffron rouge for a more natural beauty box.

I can understand that it could be frustrating, based on the price of the box, and only receive sample size products. I felt the same way too when I receive my NMDL last box with MVO products. I did check previous reviews to see what other brands they have offered. It really depends if you like those brands or have at least heard of them. I have heard of MVO, Jing Ai, and Vered. MVO and Vered are higher boutique brands, and they are know for what they can deliver. I understand if not everyone agrees with me, and love to try multiple brands. I only wish that this box would let people know which brand they are offering, so they can have the opt out option for a particular month, like Bespoke does. If anyone has this box, and want to swap, I’m up for it. This brand has been on my radar for more than a year now.

I’ve been a subscriber since the beginning and was able to sign up for $27.50 each month and I don’t think this months box was even with that amount. The samples are way too small I ended up giving the whole box to my sister who would enjoy it more.

I’m so glad I canceled this subscription. I gave it four months and even though I did receive a few items I liked, the boxes just never impressed me. I really love the Saffron Rouge Inner Circle subscription. I’m always excited to receive it and I’ve purchased a few items that I really loved.

I don’t like this box. These look like samples to me. I’m also not fond of dealing with paypal. I like to have other options. ( I know it is cheaper for box companies to only use paypal ) If I would have gotten this box in the mail, I’d feel very irritated, seems like a rip off, I’d cancel immediately and ask for a partial refund. – Only positive is they wrapped it nicely. – Liz: Sorry I’m so negative on this box, yet I’m going by first impressions.

Don’t be sorry – my first impressions were negative too! I never like it when I need to get out my quarter for box review pictures!

Liz: Thank you. 🙂 – Thank you for doing all the wonderful reviews, so other like me, can see if the value is there. — My 2 favorites are saffron rouge and Petit Vour. I think I started off with 2 boxes in April, now I’m up to 10. — 🙂 Finally got off the ipsy wait list after 5 emails to them and 2 months later 🙂 — Hope this company that sent this box improves their boxes. —

I’m very interested in natural beauty subs, but this one just seems to be low value to me. I think I’d go for Yuzen or Saffron Rouge before I ever considered this box, and they’re both cheaper!
