You may have heard of the Always Pan (and maybe you’ve read my Always Pan review), but did you know the pan is made by a direct-to-consumer brand called Our Place?
And did you also know that Our Place makes more than just the Always Pan? Our Place offers better-than-basic, on-trend plates, bowls, and drinking glasses in coordinating (but not matchy-matchy) colors for a stylish dinnerware collection.
About Our Place
Our Place is based in Los Angeles, California and was co-founded by Shiza Shahid (formerly the CEO of The Malala Fund), her husband, Amir Tehrani, and Zach Rosner (formerly at DTC brands MeUndies and Everlane). Read more about how Shahid started Our Place and developed the Always Pan.
One special thing about direct-to-consumer brands is that they typically have a strong identity built around consumer-focused goals, which are centered on building a better product and a better experience for discerning shoppers. Our Place is no different in this regard.

The Always Pan

Our Place is best known for their flagship product: The Always Pan. It was designed to replace up to 8 pieces of cookware and save space in the kitchen. It is a nonstick ceramic pan intended to be a safer alternative to Teflon. I tested the Always Pan in my kitchen for over two months and I think it’s a great piece for those who are cooking for 1-2 and want an easy-to-clean pan that will look stylish in their kitchen. While I found the pan to perform well, I did find it to be heavy and the handle to be less comfortable to hold than more ergonomic, traditional pan handles. Want to learn more about my experience? As I mentioned before, Our Place makes more than just cookware. They’ve carried their aesthetic over into main plates, side bowls, and drinking glasses to help you build a visually tasteful table - all while matching the Always Pan signature colors.

Side Bowls

The ceramic side bowls are the right size for a bowl of cereal or a cup of soup. They come in three colorways that match those offered in the Always Pan: spice, steam, and char. The bowls are hand-painted and have a dipped look with a glossy and speckled top and matte base that mimics unglazed clay. They're designed to stack but not to nest, so they’ll look tidy on open shelves but aren’t necessarily space savers. These dishes are made in China and are dishwasher and microwave safe (though it is noted that they get pretty hot in the microwave, so be careful).

Main Plates

The main plates have a modern, tiered profile and a sloped edge. The edge of the plates shows the color (spice, steam, or char) while the glossy top is decorated with subtle speckles. The plates are dinner-sized at a 9.75” diameter. They are ceramic, made in China, and dishwasher and microwave safe.

Drinking Glasses

These earth-tone drinking glasses remind me of vintage amber-tone glassware and are a welcome change from standard, everyday clear tumblers. They are hand blown natural glass and designed to stack to save space. The drinking glasses come in tones that don’t match but do complement the earth tones of the Always Pan, main plates, and side bowls: dusk, sunset, and dawn. The glasses hold 12 oz and have a 3.3” diameter. They are made in Thailand.
